Who's Riding Where???

I’m going to take the 26er out today for nostalgia and the fact my ride will be more of an escort for a newbie than a Jam. Mostly though, Marshall Canyon after a rain can get messy due to several water crossings, so I’m sacrificing the old bike and babying the Squiggle Bug.

I remember Zilla asking me at Maple Springs how I ride that 26er at all...yesterday I thought the same thing after taking her for a spin in the neighborhood.

You need to spend more time in the roadie forum.
We like to call it the "Mixed Surfaces" forum.
Aw, come on! My next trip down Motorway is going to be on the skinny bike! If I don't die on Main Divide, I think I can shave 10 or 15 minutes off the loop... :p

And I'll call it an exploratory Sundance training ride.
I've started riding my Lauf more like an MTB. Much more capable than I ever could have imagined.

Don't worry I demoed and got it out of my system and I wont be adding this bike. I liked/loved/hated the SB100 all within 8 miles. I may elaborate later but I will say I loved it most not for it's climbing prowess and a fox 34 stepcast is not a Pike...
Sounds like a carbon copy of my demo ride on the SB 150, except it was "The 36 is not a Lyrik." Glad to hear. Now go get your damn Ripley V4 and sell your outdated Hightower. Ooops - did I say that out loud?

I’m surprised to see all of these bikes north of 30 pounds (with pedals). I am not surprised, but irritated nonetheless, to see all the test riders well below 200 pounds. It’s about time bikes are tested by full grown adults.

Edit: my wife’s 2013 Trek Rumblefish checks off all the XC DH criteria: 120f/r, 31.5 lbs., 29er, 73.6* seat tube angle, except it has a  70* head angle and cost half of 5k 7 years ago.
Woohoo! Gary Fisher is almost relevant again.

I'm guessing if you're "only" going to spend $5k then there's going to be a weight penalty. I know for a fact you can build up a V4 Ripley under 26lbs.

I don't weigh any of my bikes. The last one I really wanted to know was the aluminum Highball, and I got it down to 23 pounds. But it broke. As did most of the stuff bolted to it.

When I first got the Hightower, @mtnbikej threw it on the scale, and I couldn't plug my ears fast enough! I heard the "31 pounds". I'd guess 33+, though, when the sealant encrusted Minion 2.5 is on the front. Speaking of which, it might go back on for this weekend. :whistling:

I've never bothered weighing any of my bikes either. On the challenge ride I did last December they weighed both bikes to see who had the heaviest combined weight. I was amazed my Jet came in at 27.13 lbs. I hope I'm not jinxing myself but I've beat the crap out of that bike for over 10k miles and haven't broken anything yet.

There are rumors of a bumpy trail ride tomorrow in the Santa Anas... @mtnbikej , @herzalot , @TheProfessor , possibly @mountaingirl sara

Might be room for another rider or two... Very bumpy.

Probably in the range of 19.03 miles and 3,839 feet. There is also an extended slog version that will be in the range of 31 miles and 5,000 feet.

That sounds horrible..:.WTH have to talked me into?

I thought @herzalot didn't like bumps...
