Who's Riding Where???

Weather's perfect here but Jennifer wants to hike today. Guess who's going with her. :whistling:

Glad I went big yesterday.
I had planned to ride from Cab to Parker Mesa but I called a buddy who lives off Topanga and he's telling me it's windy & rainy.

I can tough out the wind and have rain gear but the concern is mud & being forced to hike/walk back out...that's a long way.

Perhaps I'll drive over to the start of the SCV bike trail at the 5 and old school road just passed Magic Mountain. Ugggghh....

This "who's riding where" thread took a sad turn.:p I'm getting nervous for y'all, being the cool days are numbered. You guys better be planning some memorable rides before summer retirement, nudgenudge. :)

I realize I have to go tag 49.2 miles of the Arizona Trail (between Roosevelt Lake and Jake's Corner junction). Plus 20 mi of flat paved road make it a loop. I don't mind taking a bivy on it, seeing my couch time in recent months. I skipped this part on my AZT ride. I got skunked on resupply at the Roosevelt Lake store, so after detouring up to Tonto Basin, I was smitten with the scenery and no traffic on this backway and just kept riding to Jake's Corner.

Shooting for late this week. Anyone wants to meet me in Tonto Basin AZ and join for part or all of it, LMK. I'll have a jetBoil, steripen, iPhone juice, PLB, so just a day riding kit, jacket, sleeping bag, extra food/bottles will get ya through. I have a seat bag for a hardtail and an extra front roll/drybag I could loan. Skipping the bivy and riding it through is great with me. I might end up doing that, but not planning for it. Taking it in two days would make it borderline casual. Leaving my car at a campground is the present MO, prolly camp there the previous nighty for an easy start.

AZT biking version app on a smartphone works awesomely with all the data pre-downloaded. GPS optional; I will bring one if solo.

The dirt part:

(For some reason the Trailforks planner would not let me add the last section, Gold Ridge, so I patched it on.)

Headed to Tucson this weekend (first time) with @pperrelle, @pdqmach26, @AndyL and a few other members of Team AARP. Definitely plan on riding Golder Ranch, 50 year, Honey Bee, Fantasy Island and lower Mt Lemmon stuff (Bug Springs to La Milagrosa) but I'm also open to any and all advice regarding trails, street tacos, margaritas, can't miss bike shops, etc...
Fantasy Island is being developed so it has shrunk to a degree. It kind of boring. Id replace it with a trip to the 50 Year trail system. I wish I could join in!

Thanks. It definitely looks the least enticing but it is always rated well. If we did it, it would be ride #2 for the day.

Wish I could join you. I've been wanting to check Gold Ridge Tr out as well as Conucopia that Schillingsworth recently scouted. It looks like you are trying to do AZT proper which I believe follows dirt road through there. Might be worth detouring or adding a side loop to do Cornucopia. http://schillingsworth.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2020-01-30T15:30:00-07:00&max-results=1

Fantasy Island is not that great of a trail system but it does make for a good second ride of the day. Ride it around sunset and into the dark. Some of the saguaros have reflectors to help you avoid them and spot turns in the dark.

That was my thought process @evdog but I didn't know about the reflectors.

I'll be riding less often for the time being, but I'm hoping for developments in the near future which expand my territory. :whistling:

Thanks for the beta, Ev. That area has intrigued me for decades. Good on @schillingsworth for getting out there and seeing what's what. I'll put that route in my back pocket.
