Sunday afternoon PuttPutt at Marshall Canyon with all-in-Mike. It’s going to be slow and it’s going to be short, and we’ll be out there for 2.5 hours.
Check the forecast, more rain on the way (in theory)
SB 100 = fast and bumpy. Good luck - and by that I mean, I hope you hate it!Nowhere's today cuzz it's been raining on and off all day and I'm on lockdown watching my dogs sleep and my kid play video games while the wifey is at her sisters place.
Tomorrow's plan is to tear a medium and a large SB100 a new one at Space Mountain. Yeti Demo hosted by Worldwide Cyclery. Been to one of these before and it was fun and post ride refreshments hit the spot. Yes I very much remember prior Yeti ownership was short lived and painful. and that my wife will cut my nutz off and feed em to me if I show up with another. That said I've sold the gravel bike the Kona Hei Hei and the Grom so I NEED to fill a hole. I know the safest thing to do would be to just splurge on a new Ripley build but I gotta get this out of my system first...
I hope I hate it too but here’s my thinking or lack there of...SB 100 = fast and bumpy. Good luck - and by that I mean, I hope you hate it!
I hope I hate it too but here’s my thinking or lack there of...
~ Pivot Les really fast and really bumpy but a good tool for it’s commuting job
~ SB100 fast and bumpy but not really bumpy
~ Hightower not nearly as fast but what bumps are you guys talking about...?
You’re kidding right?Maybe a Yeti and another gravel bike?
Are you pointed up, straight, or down?I hope I hate it too but here’s my thinking or lack there of...

If you missed rossage giving not so subtle hints it was coming, that's on you. Even I figured it out.How come I didn’t get the nod on this one?
You’re kidding right?
Don't hold your breath unless you're gonna be my neighbor and we can laugh at each other...Time will tell... You had a much worse Yeti experience, but you’re giving it another go.
I bet if the right skinny wheel death machine comes along, you’ll do it again.
I like everything about this plan. Especially the part where you end up with a new Trail Pistol, I mean Ripley. Quiver holes are the best.Nowhere's today cuzz it's been raining on and off all day and I'm on lockdown watching my dogs sleep and my kid play video games while the wifey is at her sisters place.

The Yeti Switch Infinity is the real deal, yo! I rode one for the first time last Saturday. It's pretty amazing.Wade through all of the advice? Don't get a Yeti, Yeti's aren't as popular and they suck? They have that stupid switch infinity thing?
I don't get you N+1 peeps. I mean, I do get it when it's completely different like a hardtail SS and a Hightower, but not continually splitting the difference between this bike and that. 150 travel, 135 travel, 120 travel 100 travel, no travel, one gear no travel, skinny tires no travel. I just don't get it. Good luck!Hightower isn’t going anywhere, it’s saved my life more times than I can count. Come to think of it the Les hardtail ain’t going anywhere either cause it’s the right tool for the job. Something that slots right in the middle sounds fun though...

Scratch thatI might head to bonelli tomorrow morning...
Want to ride
But after my drive train acting funny I want somewhere to test the 22 tooth after some maintenance. Somewhere I can scrape by without relying on the granny if I need to. Haven't been since I moved from Covina, so place to test it.
Put some more cash toward the new wheels at the shop this morning... Getting closer and closer to nbd. And goodbye front derailleur
Come up to Canada and do one of @Mikie or myself’s hair brained adventure rides and you’ll quickly understand. I’m pretty sure I already know what bike I want as my wife has already told me several times (Ripley) but my fear is It’ll do everything I need and I won’t ride the other bikes.I don't get you N+1 peeps. I recently rode the 2020, lower link versions of the Tallboy, the Hightower and the Megatower. They all climbed about the same (superb), except for a little weight difference. I could not see wanting two of those.

Why not just stay twinsies with @Mikie and get a dv9...Come up to Canada and do one of @Mikie or myself’s hair brained adventure rides and you’ll quickly understand. My Hightower is about as big of Bike I’ll ever go. Not a great grind climber, you go at it’s pace, but Railing it on PCE yesterday just confirmed to me that is the perfect ride for those type of rides. Middle Merrill, Sunset, Suicide, Car Wreck, Dead Cow...I don't get you N+1 peeps. I get that. Those are three very different bikes, and you didn't go out and buy the Yeti to split the difference. I would assume you wouldn't have gone out to buy something like your 26er Yeti to supplement your 29er Hightower. My Intense Tracer could be like your Yeti, until I sell it. It's quicker in certain situations than the Megatower because it's 6'' shorter, has smaller wheels and weighs 3 lbs less. The Meg is a better climber though. And even though the Tracer is awesome, I don't want two awesome bikes with only slightly different riding characteristics. I feel guilty ignoring one for the other - and the differences are just so miniscule they are insignificant (other than gearing). My Hightower is about as big of Bike I’ll ever go. However, my Yeti is also a 5 inch bike. Climbs way better, handles the tight and twisty, quick out of the corners. Great bike for P12, Tapia, Golden Eagle, & McGill.
Building the DV9 is going to be great for those bizarre adventure rides that @Voodoo Tom and I do! Supah light, we typically don’t Bomb anything because if we got hurt, who would know to save us! But also a great bike for the fun fast and flowy. Be great for Golden Eagle, P12, Backbone, etc.

And your new hardtail will be a completely different beast too. A lot of you like to have a hardtail in the quiver for the very different riding characteristics of the non-squish, lighter bike. Many of you get bored with doing the same trails on the same bike, so buy something to make it fresh. I understand that. I don't want that, but I understand it.
BTW, do you ride your Hightower as a 29er exclusively, a 27.5 exclusively or switch off?
