Where do You Want to Retire... and Why?

Mikie. Did you ask the sellers "why" they would leave that place? And will you have a Rat-Rod bicycle next to the yard art Rooster?
Also, I was going to post up pics of my new place, but not now, thanks a lot...
I'm thinking it was a rehab flip by someone. Was purchased earlier this year then resold to Mikie for a profit.
At least according to the link it was sold once already this year.

Enjoy the new digs @Mikie !
Nope! Owner was the builder and has lived there the 10 years. They are staying in the area just a little closer to Huntsville Arkansas about 20 minutes away.
Real nice folks. Most likely we will end up friends. ;)

Oh and a Rat Rod is required in Arkansas.

Most likely I'm your closest imtb-er. If you go north to KC, west on 70, off at Salina. I'm northwest way
Out in the boonies, hence my front yard avatar..
I would like to come drink your beer. You know, invite myself. I'll ride my bike with the mtn-bike on the back.
Don't worry I'll only stay for a couple weeks. PS..My sister will finally get to sit on her little red Stumpy in
About two weeks.

Interesting as it said last sold 2021 $90,000. So, someone's "distorting the truth"

And a Rat Rod, I think of the old Rat Rod drawings from the 60s... of so, pretty cool.

As in St George/Hurricane? Are you LDS?

I grew up in the Mormon church, so I know a thing or two about it. Quit attending or caring at about age 16.

Tending more toward Hurricane, because by the time we get there (5-8 years) it'll be built enough to meet our needs - y'know, we're old and need decent medical care. That infrastructure is happening now.

Maybe it's because I grew up with it, but there's nothing nefarious about the Mormon church. As a way to live, it's not a bad idea. Don't put toxins in your body. Be nice to others. Help where you can. Be positive otherwise. Personally I have no use for organized religion, but I still follow most of it. Not all - beer is the elixir of the gods. I don't get the issue people have with it.

I lived in Salt Lake City from 1984 - 1986. As a gentile, as non-Mormons are known. Never had an issue, or a problem, or difficulty. Maybe it's because I did grow up with it.

 About half my friends growing up in Irvine are LDS. I don't know a single one that has left the church. I'm not anti-Mormon or anti-religious at all. I agree with the Mormon's stance on beer. I don't like it either. :p At one time, I thought that Hurricane was a potential landing spot but I actually liked it more when it was smaller. I even tried to convince my wife back in 2011 to buy a place as 3BR/2BA places could be had for $140K. In the end, I decided I couldn't deal with the lack of a real forest(y) type place year round and I didn't think I wanted too ride those types of trails year round.

Hope everything works out for you.

Suz wants to know what you are doing with the farm occupants?
Going with...
Although, Cathy would be willing to give the Donkeys to a good home. I will add it must be a great home. Them be our chillin's and a source of years of great joy. I would actually like to see us take them to Arkansas, but that is a 24 hour haul. I'm afraid it might be rough on them. I dida 39 hour haul with two horses one time. Very stressful.

That's great! Who bought it?
Based on the location....someone who can claim to be their own grandpa.

I can see it now...
Billy - "Sh!t Fire! Did you see that critter trail Clevis flew down... like he was awwwwnnnn fire on that there mountain bike!?!?!? I'll tell you what!!!!!!
Angus -"What?"
Billy - "What?"
Angus - "You said you would tell me what?"
Billy - "I'll tell you what... I JUST DID!!!"

I rode/crashed/slid/slammed (but didn’t hike) down a trail called Leave it for the Critters, and I haven’t been the same since.

Alpacas are tax deductible and their feed is tax free. I have friends in north Canada who raise them and get a great deduction on the land they graze on. The main thing living out there in BFE is grazing. If you do not have hoves and jaws on the ground it gets thick and choked. Great for shine and cannabis but not much else. My land in BFE used to be illegally grazed, and we called the place Cow Patty Manor. Cows have been gone a long time now and it is a giant thicket, non penetrable except on the deer trails. The Manor still stands because it is impossible to reach.
Best to you and Ellie May, she probably loves plaid by now.

one other thing about BFE. I am an outsider at the local places. they don't take too kindly to outsiders.
my grandma lived in Cow Patty Manor. I let her live there rent free. She was born on the property next door in her mother's house, (in 1800's) and they call me an outsider, go figure

I've been back & forth to my place 6-times. Been to four little towns near me. Minneapolis/Bennington/Tescott/Culver. These little KS towns have churches and locals. I fit in because I can be a people person and approachable. I am guilty of refusing to admit I'm from California though. I tell half truths, we are from Oklahoma (at one time). Its sad, but I just don't want to deal with it. My sister said damn dude you fit right in. PLUS I HAVE TO WORK !!

congrats Mikie.

So I was talking to the local lawnmower repair shop about the status of my pressure washer service, and my wife in the other room swears she heard me say "all y'all".

I, of course, deny it. Unless it's on Facebook it didn't happen :)

Be careful where you move. As the saying goes - we are all products of our environment

Heck most people here in Calif are outsiders, and haven't given it much thought. I like the cultural and ethnic diversity we live in. Me, born and raised here in So Cal. My wife though. She's from the other side of the world, awesome to have that in my own home.

Went to a small town in Nor Cal years ago, and it felt like something was just kind of off about it....after a few days it came to me.... no "cultural" diversity.

Congrats Mikie on the new place! Don't know what when where or if I'll leave Calif when the time comes. (Which isn't too far off).

That is one thing I miss about living in NC - I really enjoyed the diversity in SoCal. My best friend in SoCal was Korean, and we used to go to Little Korea for an all-you-can-eat food fest. I had several friends who were Vietnamese and we used to hang out and work bonsai together. There are NO ASIANS in NC... at least not many. And not many skin colors other than white - at least where I'm living. You don't notice it... until it is gone.
