Where do You Want to Retire... and Why?

Wash 'em down with a little chicha.

Sounds like Los Angeles.

Funny but not quite. The level 4 travel advisory (“Do not travel”) is the same level as Ukraine. For comparison Congo has a level 2 advisory (Exercise increased caution). Let me state for the record that I will not be retiring in Congo.

Not funny as there are parts of LA that should be Level 6 if they were given advisories. I can't speak for Ecuador but I've been to Cabo when they were supposedly at Level 4 and it was a bunch of nonsense.

Thanks. It was meant to be humorous and sarcastically truthful. For those of us who live in Orange County and don't cross the L.A. County line much ... well, the difference is staggering. Get anywhere near downtown L.A. and there are homeless under, on top of and beside every single overpass. The entire county is a ghetto as far as I am concerned. Their DA lets criminals out of jail on the regular.

Many people love to talk Sh!t on OC, but our homeless problem is managed and we have a legit DA who takes no crap.

A couple decades ago when our lives revolved around snow skiing & snowboarding, my wife and I always thought we wanted to retire to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. However, after a long weekend in Big Bear a few years back where we literally froze the entire weekend, we started to rethink that plan. It didn't help that the Winter vacations had been taken over by desert trips in 2005 and then by mountain biking again in 2010. Well, after spending the last week in Park City where we were blessed with fresh snow on 5 of our 8 days there, I think we made the right choice. I haven't been to Steamboat in many, many years but Park City has literally imploded. Very "standard" 3/2 homes are $2M and up and the traffic is really bad as they now have "commuter" traffic since nobody can afford to live there. Luckily, we were always going the opposite direction of said traffic. We found out after we got there that people were making reservations two weeks in advance for most restaurants.

I'm pretty sure we made solid decision and we're happy to be in Prescott.

I do wish that the state would buy all our meth-addicted homeless a one way bus ticket back to the states they came from.

But Jimmie Rodgers sang about it 100 years ago. Merle Haggard covered it, and I can imagine a Social Distortion cover sounding pretty tight.

I’m goin to California
Where they sleep out every night

I like out of the way places. When I get there I always stop in. normally the local drug store or notions store not the Rx. I get asked where I am from and respond way out west in Ventura Cnty. Yeehaw. They always, ALWAYs say we are from California too. Seems people like these out of the way places, retire sell their So Cal real estate and get bored, buy the local store and run it for fun, not profit. Yep it sucks living in So Cal until you sell and find that piece of paradise. BTW this is across the USA not just the near by states.
Happy trails to you

So go ahead Newscum raise the carbon taxes $6.00 and counting, give out needles and poop. $875,000 homeless rooms, Free abortions to all, we will even pay your airfare. I have seen the future and the future is East. I bet in Mikieville it is $3.00 and everyone is screaming make it stop. A toast to the good life. Eastward destiny.

I was hoping for a second response… I’m betting it’s not a real person.

I would prefer not to retire at all. I want to run a business that I created from scratch by myself. Until the day I die.
Until the day I die. And www.imtbtrails.com :geek: will help me with that. The guys on this site are very kind and honest people. I checked them out personally. In all the time we have worked together, they have not stolen a cent from me. They helped me a lot in terms of taxes. For people with small businesses, the tax rates are huge. And I did not agree with that. . These guys were in solidarity with me and decided to help me. As a result, thanks to them, I was able to save quite a solid amount of money. Good luck to everyone.
