The Fire Thread

Less than 100 yards from my delivery.

I just drove through Simi Valley on my way home. The DC-10 was doing repeated phos-chek drops as I passed through at the 118/23 interchange. The fire had jumped the 23 and the jet was laying down lines there to stop it. Amazing how low that jet was flying when it released it's sea of pink! FREAKIN' HOWLING WIND out there.

You should have told me you were coming through. You could have brought me lunch.

It was a golden trifecta today. Fires in Brea, Fullerton and Whittier....staggered times but the mess was incredible. 57 had two lanes shut down....meaning everyone had to try St. College or Harbor. My neighbor spent two hours on Harbor to travel 9 miles. The 60 had a 12 mile backup at rush hour. My poor little town of Brea proved its worth and we all just took a deep breath, trusted the awesome fire services and drank a bottle of wine for dinner celebrating our survival.

Thankfully, I travel west to east coming home so I missed all the traffic. My puppy and Cutthroat were safe.

Well, that got exciting real fast. Right after I finished typing three posts ago, I found out the FLoop was burning and my Mom lives about 3/4 mile away. Just got home after calming her down. The water dropping helicopter flights were going right over her home at about 200' and sounded like freight trains. We (well Mom) stopped counting at 43 flights. What a crazy afternoon. Please go away wind.

There's a reservoir on my route so the helicopters were using that for their water source as it is right next to the Reagan library. They were overhead for close to two hours. Sometimes I felt like I could just reach up and grab one they were so close.
