The Fire Thread

I will admit - in public - that Big Country was and still is a top three for me. Most people think of them as a one-hit wonder, not the 9 album, amazing band they were.

My friend and I had the good fortune of sitting on the edge of a stage after their show in a bar in Golden CO, sharing a pitcher (Coors Winterfest) and hanging with Tony Butler, Mark Brzezicki and Stuart Adamson in 1994, right after the release of the Buffalo Skinners. Just the five of us. Bruce Watson was busy with some other fans. I asked why they were playing a bar in Golden, and why they didn't charge for the concert. Stuart said they wanted to rehearse in small venues, and their management decided not to charge for this one. Mark asked us in a very earnest voice how they sounded. It was surreal, as I was such a huge fan.

I know I know, "Cool story bro!" And "pics, or it didn't happen."

OK, now back to the fire theme.

Can't believe I didn't come up with this one. Such a haunting and influential sound! They were soooo young!

Where were you in October...1981?

Boy/October/WAR were a damn fine first three albums! I fell into the nostalgia rabbit hole and watched this that popped up:

Oct '81... I was 11, probably obsessing over when the still un-named next Star Wars movie would come out!
