The coffee lover thread

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive espresso machine?
Inexpensive is relative in the world of espresso machines! I would say any 15 bar (pressure) machine should be pretty good. You'll need a good burr grinder to properly grind the espresso. That's just as/more important. The cheap coffee grinders will NOT work for you.

Any of these should be fine:

Burr mills (which you should use for regular coffee as well):

I actually had the Cuisinart grinder that you linked to. It died. The motor gave up the ghost when it was only a couple of years old. That was about the time that I switched to Nespresso.

I think I've shared this before but worth repeating :)

UFO Strangers in the Night (and at the same time Scorpions Animal Magnetism) was my first
LP purchase w/ my paper route money back then. Yea, UF frickin O for me too :).

I still have the double LP, in mint condition.

We still have ours, it's in storage in case the built-in one ever breaks.

I've always thought that bikes and coffee went together...

From an e-mail I received today from Nespresso:

I don't believe it... Big box retailers scamming for profit? No way.

I recall buying smith farms coffee back in about 2004 when on a Kona Coffee Kick. I forgot the name and couldn't find it again. Although they were probably the best Kona Coffee, and possible the best coffee, I'd ever had. IIRC they send the bag of coffee with a request to mail them a check.
So...just tried to order more and Smith Farms has temporarily shut down the site due to overload from this article. Very easy to do give only produce 2500 lbs or so a year.
Seem so typically Hawaiian, laid back and just want to enjoy life!

And... I don’t buy coffee at Costco. Even with how much I drink, it would start to go stale before I was halfway through.

I prefer smaller quantities... Presently on a Lavazza kick, which comes in 1/2 pound bags.

I buy coffee at Costco, and yes it goes stale before I finish it. However at the price I can throw a pound of stale away and still save $10-20. The have pretty good coffee depending on the type. The selection changes everytime I'm there.
It works for me!

Do you have the lil tiny espresso cups and do you drink them with your pinkie pointing straight out?
I'm prob guilty of this practice... since I have perhaps several dozens (after letting go of several dozens) of them tiny espresso cups, and just as many of the cappa cups. I have a few Illy cups with designs from famous artists, unfor I don't have any by David Byrne.

I once ordered 5 lbs of unroasted Kona green beans (direct from farm, expensive) and tried roasting it at various roast levels as well as preparing it in both espresso and pourover... For whatever reasons, Kona does nothing for me. More money to try different chain lubes...
