The Automobile Thread

We averaged just under 20 mpg in the Titan on our trip to Prescott last September. 80 mph both ways. Live data showed low 20s if we dropped down to 70 mph. Not bad for a 400 hp V8!

I kept the fuel economy window open on the way there, consciously trying to get the most out of my $6.79 diesel... :Roflmao We were between 70-75. On the way home, I figured the route trended downhill, so we were pushing 80 most of the way.

That is a serious win, I can’t even get my Tacoma get 22 mpg with just me in it.

Diesel FTW!

I get about 16-18 in city (normal) driving. I do have a lead foot. Best I have ever gotten is 24 averaging about 80 to and back from Vegas. I work from home so .... biking & groceries. I am fine with gas prices. The freeways will never again be as glorious as March/April 2020, but the less people who can afford to drive the better. I know ... but that's how I feel about it. :Roflmao That said, I would drastically change my tune if I had to drive to my corporate office in L.A. every day.

I remember back in the early 90s I wanted a twin turbo ZX300 so bad. I couldn't afford one so I had to settle for a 3rd gen RX-7 R1. With a light foot I could get 30 mpg but I drove it like I rode my GSX-R 750. I was lucky to get 15 mpg. But boy was it worth it!

Dude, you probably had the best version of the RX's. That car was badass, but MPG is not a strength of rotary engines. Nor should it be.

Glad you are still alive ... I would be dead now if I had ever purchased a GSX-R. :Roflmao

Yeah, I count my blessings quite often. As far as the RX-7 goes, I remember racing a GSX-R 750 on the freeway. We took off from about 60 mph. At about 120, he went to look over his shoulder to see how far back he had left me. I was right next to him. :Roflmao:D

I am running into the problem again of not wanting to get serious about buying because I just don't want to deal with a dealer. I f@cking hate those people. I can't even walk up to the parts counter without getting angry, the idea of talking to a dealer again is just putting me off even trying.

Just wait for the new Z. It will make you happier than that weaksauce car. 400 HP, stick standard and RWD. $40Kish. What more do you need?

I am not excited about turbos, and the little car weighs a lot less. A Miata is more interesting than a Z. I would rather have a V8 Mustang than a turbo car. I technically haven't written off the idea of a pony car. I am probably all talk though, again. I hate big purchases.

I have a GSXR 1000 still too.

Have you considered the online purchasing sites?

I'll do it. My wife and I like f@cking with them!

Oh yeah hrz!

I always go loaded for bear. I Look at it this way, if it takes me 8 hours to save a grand, that's $125 / hr I just made. They don't have 8 hrs.

Surprisingly enough, I've been involved in two transactions for new cars in the last 3 months and both were honest, upfront and no games. A breath of fresh air I must say. Smooth, easy and nice folks.

However, it only takes getting burned once to hate the process. Be ready to walk out if even a hint of scam comes up. And don't ever feel obligated to finalize the sale if you have doubts, or feel bad about being kinda dickish.

Like contractors, car dealers have a well earned crap reputation.

The fact that they'd charge over msrp speaks volumes.
