Mt High, I presume?
So much easier than Big Bear.
Baldy is great in big snow, like maybe now.

I'd have to bet you've skied and surfed on the same day?

I've done it a few times, and even once surfed, skied, surfed. None of the three sessions were long or great, but we did it.

I could have easily done that today. Doheny looked acceptable this afternoon. However, I can barely get to my feet on dry ground right now, so surfing is not a real possibility. New hip coming in two weeks.

I'll have to save Baldy for a big snow year when I can actually ski something other than groomed runs. If that ever happens again (both of those conditions).

Awesome! I got out with my rugrat last week as well, at Snow Valley. Snow and coverage was quite good. Kaia had lost interest in snowboarding, and hadn’t ridden in a couple years. She actually killed it, and has the bug again. She’s also the the size of a small adult human (aka my wife) now, which means she can use my wife’s extra gear. What a win. She’s super stoked for a family trip to Mammoth/June in a couple weeks.

Yay! That's fantastic! I'm so glad to see that she has a spark for riding again!

Just got back from Mammoth, had a blast with my son. Saturday, xc skied to and around the Inyo Craters, 40 years of going up there and I'd never been. Totally worthy! Sunday, hit Mammoth (calm after the St. Pat's festivities). Monday, cruised June Mtn, almost empty save for some free-heeling military trainees. Bluebird skies & good snow all 3 days!

Last week we went on our yearly spring break trip to Mammoth and I skied for the first time in over 30 years (switched to snowboarding when I was 12). Not only was it fun to challenge myself but skiing with the family was everything I’ve always looked forward to.

We did it last year but I was snowboarding and the kids were just learning. This year it only took a few runs for my daughter to get the lazy fall overs out of the way. Once she was in control of her pizza position to slow down we had tons of laps with no stopping. We even got her up the new Canyon Express lift where there are some blue/black runs.

Added bonus was meeting up with two other families from our school and we had six kids and six parents all going down runs together. Crowds weren’t bad at all but we are also lucky enough to use my friend’s black pass for the lifts and parking.

I tried to surf today. I am sorry to report that I cannot get my left foot to the front of the board at this time. Couldn't stand.

I have some PT work to do, it appears. And/or I may need to change to goofy foot if I am really determined to surf again.

Doheny. 2-3' Water temp was wonderful. Crowd was what it usually is at Doheny on a Sunday afternoon.

Hey! Great for getting out! Keep trying, but don’t overdo it. Follow the PT instruction. Maybe try those Burpees? at home. But I hate those

Trust me, I am doing every kind of simulated stand up exercise I can find. I asked my surgeon "Can I surf?" He said, "Could you before?" Touche'. I am cleared to try, but I need some rotational flexibility from the prone position. There's probably some yoga stuff for that.

SUP’s are really fun, but I’ve only used them as a paddle board. Too much board for me to try and surf with. Lots of those guys down at the south end of Old Man’s. I still think you’ll get to it, you’ve got all summer!

After one of my shoulder surgeries my ROM really plateaued at a sub-optimal point despite being diligent with PT. My wife dragged me to some of her hot yoga classes, and just a few classes got me over the hump, and me a very noticeable and usable amount of ROM back. Could at least be worth a try.

I thought I saw you out here at Steamer Lane yesterday. Heal up and you may be out here.

Progress report...

Nope.

In an attempt to get myself surfing sooner than later, I have taken on the quest to get goofy. I dragged out my skateboard on Sunday, and again today to try to ignore 48 years of left foot forward and develop some new muscle memory with the right foot forward. Yeah. Well. I'm trying!

I looked at my idol Kelly Slater - he had some major hip repair last year - tougher than replacement - and he got to the semi-finals in Tahiti last week riding his normal stance. I can't for the life of me figure out which hip he had repaired, but I believe it was his left (same as mine) which means his leading foot. Well if Kelly can do it, so can I!

PT tomorrow. Let's see if I can convince him to prevent me from spending my remaining active years as a clumsy goofy footer!

My legion of fan will be happy to hear that I caught and stood on a wave today!

Of course I didn't catch any others after my first wave, but I will take it. Given what my back, hip and eye have done to me recently, this is a huge win! I'm happy -but not satisfied! More please - I'm not getting any younger!
