Snow Sports and/or Surfing

Won this 805 deck at the raffle at Moon the Amtrak on Saturday. Should I build it up and try to break my neck (my wife's belief) or just hang it in the garage?

I barely got into pools and parks in the early 80's when liability shut all those places down. And, I was not good.
Basically Jr high thru college skated to get around/ commute.
Had a Dog Town with Independents and Bones.
Are those still things?
My park experiences pre-date yours. My last board was an Alva with Powerflex fives (mismatched colors of course) and Gull-Wing Pros. CLEARLY before grinding was a thing, since Gull Wings were scooped out in the center to prevent "catching" on coping or lips. 1978 ish I think.

OMG - found a photo of my deck and the Powerflex wheels circa 1978:

I did have a brief resurgence in interest around 2005 and bought a modern park and ramp board - but I have no idea what brand or model anything is... I still have it.

Just checked - Element wheels and Tensor trucks...

Build it!

I’ve been sitting on this Doom Sayers club deck for like 2 years.
Every time I’m near a skate shop o don’t have it with me. I could never skate to save my life anyway. Still keeping an eye out for roller blades @DangerDirtyD style!

Nice boards! I was skate boarding when clay wheels were in, and stopped shortly after urethane wheels came out. Wasn't that about 4 years ago? :whistling:

I do recall very well eating crap skating down mt Baldy after riding the tube under the Baldy dam. ouch, could barely move for a couple days. Tis but a scratch!

Baldy Pipe!!!! Did you eat it while skating down the drainage flume? Locals call it shooting the line. You can ride the ditch from the pipe all the way down to just before Montclair Plaza. Ridden that spot more times than I can count over the past 35 years. It still is a hotspot and known worldwide. Although it is not skateable right now, they actually opened the pipe and snow run off is coming through it.

Never skated the flood channel down to Montclair, but that would have been nice. We would climb over the fence and down to the pipe, skate it then climb back up to the top of the dam. I hopped on my sketboard on Baldy Rd near the top of the dam and skated down the road. Probably not my best decision as it was pretty steep and fast o_O and well... but gotta say to was a rush! I'd also spend a lit of time Backpacking in Baldy, so know it well.

Surfed twice today. Middle Trestles for two hours with my buddy Brian (on my new Bobby Quad) this morning and then this evening at San Onofre with my 13yo daughter I can't say I surfed well, but I can say both sessions were friggin' glorious!

Here's a sunset shot after we finished around 8:00 pm. Can't really see it, but the water was reflecting gold. This was a small one. There were some head high waves. Glassy. Almost warm water. Did I mention glorious?

Beautiful, I was staring at my boards today, need to get out and get some of this gloriousness.

Waikiki last Monday through Friday. Tiny surf except Wed and Thurs. Ten thousand friendly wannabes and a few locals in the lineup. I actually found some good ones each session - but best ones were W and Th evening. Daughter caught a couple each session too. No pics of us, so it didn't happen.

Here's a pic from the hotel balcony Wednesday morning. I count over 65 people waiting for the few waves that came. But like I said - I caught a few good ones each session. And the water was 79-80° as was the air.

IMTB is so big that we just tend to run into members everywhere!

Today as I was getting ready to surf at San O Bluffs Trail 1, some dude who was just finishing his session says, "Do you mt. bike?" I (half lying) said, "Yes I do." He then adds "Are you Herzalot?" I confirmed his suspicion. It was none other than @MolarM! We didn't think to take a picture, so I guess it didn't happen.

Nice to see you Mike! Thanks for saying hi. I hope your session was as fun as mine!

Water was around 73° Wind was light. Waves were 2-4' and occasionally peaky. Good stuff!

Hey Bud,
It was great seeing you down there at Trails today. I recognized the board and figured it had to be you. Dang it, I wish I had more time. It would have been nice to trade some waves, but I needed to be in the office by ten. It went from ten people out down to two! You timed it perfectly!

Loving that warm water!

Around 9:30 as the tide was peaking and the wind was picking up a little, the crowd actually grew to a normal size - maybe 20 spread out around the zone. A few of them were very attractive women with naked butts, so I didn't mind too much. :inlove:
