Snow Sports and/or Surfing

Then there's this...

Kind of makes the decision easy. But funny how they absolutely buried the lede.

spring will be good this year.
Mt. High East resort will be the the ticket next weekend. All slopes should be open including Olympic Bowl.

And, based on legend and lore, this would be the time to look into a Mt. Baldy visit (once the road opens). The terrain there looks legit.

Big storms + weekends in SoCal are invariably complete sh!t shows. I wouldn't have wanted any part of this, but stoked for what it hopefully means for length of the season. Guessing Mammoth will be shooting for July 4th at this point.
If you haven’t checked out Jerries of Bear Mountain on Instagram lately, they have some great footage of mountain driving.

Gonna try to get up there next Friday, but it’ll be ridiculous for at least a couple weeks.

If Mt Waterman doesn’t open, it’s a good spot to boot up and earn a couple turns. If it does open, it’s a fun old timey vibe.

Oooopsie. Goes to show that just because you can get up a hill, doesn't mean you can come down it. That could easily be me as I rarely chain up my Audi, but yeah, once any car starts sliding downhill without chains on, you're doomed.

Unfortunately, the vehicles I saw flipped off the side of I-70 in Co were large 4 x 4s like Suburbans, Expeditions and such. I say unfortunately because these rigs are usually stuffed with kids and driven by either a dad who doesn't understand physics or a mom who has been told "don't worry, it's 4 wd."

Downhill don't give a F@ck about how many wheels receive power. And weight is not your friend.

Are we talking about the blue/grey SUV? That appears to be a Mazda. That said, I see firsthand how many people are oblivious to the fact that their AWD German car or SUV that is marketed as a beast in the snow comes on Summer tires. The image that always pops into my head was the time I tried to get to Snow Summit the day of a storm, and people just straight up stopped in the middle of 330 to put on chains, including a 2wd Tacoma with a gigantic lift and monster tires.

@tick that account is an immediate follow. Pure gold. And I'm familiar with Waterman, but have never been. Sounds like it's definitely something I need to experience.

Is Waterman still an entity?
I thought it had dissolved.
One of my friends was a ski patroller long ago but I never made it there because it was very rarely open

Waterman barely exists, but if you want a job as a lifty, they’re hiring. It seems like more of a labor of love than a real business.

Wow - you get to ride/ski the snow? We just get to read about it and look at webcams and photos.

Another 12” overnight….headed to Powder Mtn this morning. With the wind and near whiteout conditions at times, there might be too much snow here. The 159 snowboard is struggling to float at times but overall, it’s another epic day once you get it pointed DH on steeper runs

My local resort Cherry Peak has been firing this week. Monday - Wednesday they are only open 5 - 9 pm. Went up last night, 3rd chair up and it was close to knee deep fresh turns. Took about a dozen runs, the first 6 were fresh turns top to bottom no crossing over other tracks. The last six were about half fresh turns and half through the chop. Left once it got pretty well tracked out. Tonight would be even better cause they got more snow through the day. I'll be going back on Thursday morning, they open at 9 am and run the peak chair during the day. By Thursday the peak will have at least 2-3 feet of freshness. Going to try and be the first chair. It should be epic, the place is like a ghost town on Thursdays. Ride right up to the chair, no lines. We'll see... powder brings everyone out, calling in siiiiick for a pow day!
