Snow Sports and/or Surfing

Correction. I am not double positive angles. The back is at negative, sorry for the misinformation.:Roflmao:bang: I'm having to relearn the lingo.

Are your bindings mounted a little too far to the heel side? I’d be curious to see how your toe overhang looks relative to your heel overhang. On the other hand, a little heel bias might not be a bad thing since toe side carves are generally a lot easier to maintain than heel side carves.

Keeping in mind my earlier claim about how much I actually know about snowboard set up.
Oh - and you need a sticker refresh!

I have little kid feet. Never had an issue:laugh::Roflmao See pic… what you think? Good?

And, I just put those stickers on. Granted they’re about 20-15 years old. BUT…they’re fresh:D

In the overhead view the front binding (left) appears to be biased to the heel side edge but the view of the right boot looks balanced to me. If it works for you, don’t change it just cuz some dufus on a Mt bike website says it looks wonky.

Oh and I shall withdraw my sticker comment from earlier. You simply need to add the IMTB sticker then to make your collection complete.

Just got back from Mammoth and strangely skiers out numbered boarders - very odd. Last I checked it was 60/40 boarders to skiers but this year it seemed to flip. I'm a skier who realized keeping your boots in storage is not a good idea! Santa is bringing me new boots ...
I have found that - other than SoCal - skiers still outnumber boarders at real ski areas - Whistler, Vail, Steamboat, Telluride, Squaw, etc. Probably because there is so much mountain and terrain that the whole park and half pipe scene is not as dominant.

Good luck with the new ski boots! I just changed mine as well. My feet are happier.

Do you ever sleep ? ? ?

@herzalot you are correct with the front binding. It is a little proud to the heel side. I did this purposely thinking it will help with swith frontside carves. Making it a little easier to dig my heel in. And, not to worry I'm not changing anything. I only follow your advice for mountain bike apparrel. Happy trails Herz!!!

Really....? Aside from the terrain parks, I think it's been 70% skiers for several years now. I mostly attribute that to the rise of twin tip skis and all skis getting wider = easier. Theonly reason it surprises me is because snowboard boots are soooooo much more comfortable.

And, sooooooo much easier to walk in. It's terrifying to watch skiers struggling to go up and down stairs.
Alpine touring boots with walk mode have changed the game. Even dedicated DH boots now can be had with Gripwalk soles and walk mode. Just don’t forget to flip the lever when you get to the lifts. And pick a compatible binding.

After years of wearing race boots with solid one-piece soles and super stiff flex, I have my first pair of “grip walk” soles on my new ski boots. No “walk mode” hinge release (a feature you wouldn’t want to have fail). I find the grip walk soles easier in the parking lot and in the lodge than a non GW sole, but more challenging on ice and snow than my familiar solid, flat soles.

I will admit it feels great to change into my snowboard boots after 6-10 runs for some knuckle dragging fun!

For you skier/snowboards check out https://getslopes.com/ to track your mountain stats. You can download the app to your phone and ready to go. It even allows you to link directly to Strava. They have a free version and then the membership version. I believe the maps/trails are specific, only show for resorts. Unlike Strava it DOESN'T count the lift ride as part of the totals. Pretty cool. Check it out!

Great! Maybe I can track my PRs and set some KOMs down the hill. See if I can break some speed records while I’m at it!

Snowboarders what bindings are you using? And, why did you chose them?
I thought my bindings were good to go. Buuuttt, the adjustable toe ramps have disappeared. I first noticed the front binding ramp snap closure was broken. But, the ramp stayed in place no problem especially when your foot was strapped in. Went up on Friday and after my 3rd run the front toe ramp was missing. By the end of the day both of them were missing. Burton doesn't offer replacements since they are so old. I will continue riding them as is for as long as possible. I didn't notice the ramps were missing until I looked at my bindings. I couldn't tell they had popped out just by feel, so why not keep riding them as is. It is likely they are going to break and I'll need to replace them. So I was hoping to hear some opinions on what all of you are using and why. Also, curious to know if anyone has tried Flow bindings? They've caught my attention for the ease of entry. But, I'm not sure about the stiffness. Reviews I've read lean toward the soft side that are good for beginner/int. I am looking for a medium stiffnes binding that doesn't cost as much as the board does. Whatcha all got?!

My son likes his Flow bindings. But if you want easy get the Burton Step-on. Game changing. Of course you need the compatible boots too so it’s a big $ day when you do. They ride like…well, like snowboard bindings.

I started with Flow bindings and thought they were the bees knees, so I bought a second set with my new board back in 2019. Then I found out why no one good uses them. I fell on a steepish run and while I was trying to get my feet around to arrest my slide, both bindings opened by dragging on the snow. That left me no option but to slide until I stopped. Glad it wasn’t in a chute. I taped them shut subsequently and strapped in like normal bindings. Then got a set of Burton Cartels and haven’t looked back.

As for the step ins, I am skeptical. Never tried them. Moot point since you already bought your boots. I think bindings matter more in snowboarding than skiing. They determine the feel of your board, and the power transmission. As a skier, I like a relatively stiff binding boot combination for my snowboard. And I weigh 210.

@herzalot thanks for the info. And, I have read about the Flows opening. Several peeps saying they came completely out of their bindings and the board slid away from them...bye bye down the hill. A leash would fix that, but I haven't used one yet and aren't planning on starting.

The Burton Cartels that @herzalot mentioned are pretty fail safe, and ubiquitous. I personally prefer Union bindings, and the Atlas specifically. The Atlas is on the stiffer side of medium. The Force is the slightly softer, slightly cheaper option from Union. Between Cartel and Force I really don't think you could go wrong. I have no direct experience with Flow bindings, but I've heard the phrase "friends don't let friends buy Flows" turned more than once. I personally wouldn't buy bindings based on ingress and egress, as opposed to actual riding performance.
