Rossage down!

One day at a time!
Here's a common list blood thinners . Nothing starting with an I
  • Apixaban (Eliquis)
  • Dabigatran (Pradaxa)
  • Edoxaban (Savaysa)
  • Heparin (various)
  • Rivaroxaban (Xarelto)
  • Warfarin (Coumadin)
For my PE's, I was given Pradaxa (didn't work), then Lovenox for a year (daily self-injections, sucked & made me look like a failed prizefighter). I fought for & was switched to Xarelto (far less bruising and other side effects, as opposed to Coumadin, the king of thinners), and have been on it with success for the past 2 years. The point being, try what works best for YOU!

I am back! So they took me in for an angiogram. This is where they go in and inject a dye and look for clots and damage.
They found one, big clot. But it is already mostly open. They gave me a bunch of drugs to try and dissolve the clot. If it dissolves, great. If it is still there tomorrow, they will try to remove it with suction. If that doesn't work, they will place a stent.
This is amazing stuff. I was awake and watching the whole time, while they explained each step.
I saw my heart and arteries, the clot, all ona screen next to my head while a surgical nurse gave the play by play.
I must remain prone, can't move my right leg until the procedure tomorrow am.
I take all this as good news. Best is no stent, but il will have to wait and see in the morning. Worst case would have been open heart surgery-yikes!
It's gonna be a long night.
Glad for the relatively positive trend in the news! You’ll get through this and back at it even stronger

To summarize, I think we have learned some valuable lessons here:

(1) Never ride with anyone named Steve.
(2) Never ride with a guy who goes by the user name @Faust29
(3) Never ride with a someone who uses a quote from the devil in his signature.
(4) Never ride with a biker who hammers 25 miles of mountain trails and wants to follow it up with spicy tacos.
(5) And DEFINITELY avoid anyone who meets all the above criteria!

Perhaps you should advance your theory to the American Heart Association.

There's another user on the forum who was present for Ross's helicopter ride a few years ago and the spicy tacos on Sunday... I'm not naming names, but if we're looking for patterns here... **cough, cough, @Luis , cough cough**. :cautious: :whistling:

I heard from the big guy a little while ago... He's doing ok. He'll post details later after his beauty sleep.

So, they went in to take a look this afternoon and the blockage was smaller but still there. Tried to suction it but finally squished it and put in a stent. 15mm of gleaming Ti. Appropriate for an mtber.
Having a little trouble with the incision point bleeding but that's expected given the high doses of blood thinners they have me on.
Mostly they're using heparin but they tried to dissolve the clot with Integrilin/Eptifiberide @scan .
No chest pains, just watching the Lakers, hoping to go home tomorrow.
Of course the Doctors are great but the Nurses are awesome! Elbow deep in it every day. Don't know how they do it.

Rib cage intact = good outcome.:thumbsup:

My thoughts exactly.
A stent doesn't have any effect on long term mortality but open heart surgery does.
I will probably be on some sort of blood thinners for a couple of months and an aspirin a day for life. I can deal with that.
Awesome! Rossome! I can't add anything that hasn't already been said. You've got this but we will all keep you in thoughts and prayers as a safety net. Others may opt for moist sponges. Like I said earlier, I've been on blood thinners for 23 years. Evidently they make you slow, bald and indecisive. I think. Maybe not.

Thanks for making me feel like an idiot, as usual. Many of you here excel at that. I challenge anyone here who would prefer that I not participate to just say so.
I'll defend you Snake...

Dear @Runs with Scissors, as one of the most careful readers on this site, surely you noticed that our friend @SnakeCharmer made a comparison to the region he knows. Nowhere did he assert that Santiago Oaks was in Los Angeles County. One could extrapolate that he was saying something like "Are you sure? Because in Los Angeles County..."

Glad to see you two bickering with each other instead of going after me! (Uh oh... I shouldn't have said that...)

Anyway - See what you are missing @rossage? If this doesn't motivate you to get better and go ride, nothing will!

Just saying quality fish oil thins blood with no side effects for bleeding out. You may want to or not Ross?
And, https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/01/160121122158.htm

Thanks man. All options are on the table but I think I will stick with the game plan they have me on for now. When/if I get off the blood thinners and onto aspirin, I think I will be able to look for more natural alternatives.

Funny thing just happened. The heart Doc came in and checked the bandages and stuff and asked me why I wasn't eating. I said the nurses were waiting for your approval. He said go for it.
So I lifted the lid on a plate with a baked potato, mixed veggies, and some fruit. Oh yeah, there was also a thinly sliced portion of beef.
I looked at the Doc and asked if it was ok for me to eat it and he said sure.
His opinion is that if my self-proclaimed bad diet was so bad, I would've had much more plaque in my arteries. Possibly more blockages. I was instructed to follow a heart healthy diet and work on reducing my free-oil and salt intake as well.
Strenuous exercise will have to wait a while:whistling: but walking is encouraged.
Walking=balking=biking, right?

I had to go backwards to see where the clog was happening. I read "Widowmaker' that is the left coronary artery. The first left turn off the primary aorta. So now you can prove you are not heartless, a good thing. They will probably check out the carotids next. They carry most of the good stuff, and you thought most of that blood went down to the other head. Check out the stent, is it doped or bare? Something to know about in the future. They were not too worried or you would have the stent, when there is no time to wait for chemical defrost of the artery.
Happy trails

I wanted them to use some Shimano SP-41 housing but they shot me down.

Doc seems to think the thrombus formed on a defect in the arterial wall. Similar to a small divot or small rise, enough to be a point of nucleation for plaque to set up shop.

I wanna see you do the balking part.

Have either of you ever even done an Oaks ride? :cautious:
