One More eBike Debate

Yes, for healthy people, the virus symptoms are that of a cold or less. It's quite possible that some of us here have it right now. But I'm not worried about me, I'm worried about passing it on to those around me who have weakened immune systems or underlying illnesses. I'd be horrified to find out that I played a part in infecting a loved one who could be severely affected.

Yep. But this goes for any illness... And we should keep it in mind always. A common cold is a nuisance for you and me. For someone with a weakened immune system, it can be 12 weeks of hell.

The flu shot I get as often as possible isn't for me...

Well where a common cold is concerned, corona virus is capable of much more so yes, it's more dangerous in that matter. But at least it's not a global killer.

There really is not any way to filter out an motor bike rider is there? You could treat this like a business if you want more revenue in the form of more members because the trend is in the direction of the motor. Or you could keep to your core gut feelings about a truly awesome sport that your founding members are passionate about!
This reminds me of my dads awesome invention which was a battery operated map for the fire department of the Santa Clarita Valley for its complicated road system. It was a 5’X 6’ map mounted at two fire stations walls that they had tested and loved it cut down response times considerably, except it was right before the time that satellite navigation was being introduced and it killed it dead in its tracks, we were all pretty bummed about it to say the least!

A flu shot could kill or paralyze me. So I cannot get one, as such I take the risk of catching it every season, and have on a couple occasions.

But the corona is an unknown. I have some work travel scheduled in country I'll do for sure. but my vacation to mexico for late April might get cancelled. I'm thinking why tempt fate. :cautious:

I can't think of any adequate reason to go to Mexico. But that's just me.

I used to feel the same way due to all the cartel related violence we always read about up here....and then we had a cruise stop in Cozumel. That is when I realized how ignorant I had been. Cozumel was spectacularly clean and the Mexican people were very polite. I knew that we'd be back but instead went to Cabo San Lucas where we stay at the Grand Solmar Lands End which is the nicest resort we've ever stayed in....anywhere. We pay $1500 for a week in a condo unit that would cost that for 1-2 nights in Maui. The food in town is BETTER and 3-5X cheaper than what we have in Hawaii. Most importantly, the staff at the resort is amazing and genuinely polite. The American tourism industry is so far behind what we've experienced in Mexico that they will never, ever catch up. Bottom line, at least in the popular tourist areas, if you're not involved in nefarious activities, you have nothing to worry about. I don't think Mexico's ever had 50 deaths and 500+ injuries from gunfire at a concert yet.

Differing needs and expectations. There is nothing in Mexico I want to see or experience. My preferences are places such as Zion, Yellowstone, Canyonlands, etc. Again, that's just me. If Mexico is your thing, have at it.

Here is the Dealio…
I can appreciate what you are saying. The challenge is my house is getting polluted with negativity and I don't like it.
I get PM's saying we need to stop the eBike threads. I get PM's saying we need to not lock down the eBike threads.
I get both worlds, "This is exclusively a mountain bike site..." "Mikie, you need to be more open minded about eBikes..."

@BonsaiNut if I created an eBike Forum, is there a way for members to block it if they do not want to even see the Forum?
That way folks that want to flame on can have their pointless arguments.
Here's the dealio of all dealios... Stay true to who you are as a mt biker and a forum moderator. Call out shitty behavior when you see it. Keep, maintain and even share your opinions of e-mt. bikes. But there's no need to actively seek to eliminate all discussion of the trend. We have to talk about it. Can we share our points of view without denigrating someone with an opposing view? Who knows? Our country has gotten really good at absolutely binary "thinking." I listen to Fox and CNN on my commute. No one makes any sense - they just demonstrate EXTREME versions of confirmation bias.

Only if you buy into the "authoritative news channels."

If you (the impersonal you) can think for yourself (this is not a dig at you, personally) then you can realize just how much bullshit is being strewn on the national "news" networks. If you cannot, then you (again, the broader "you") get all worked up about how polarized the nation is. I have discussions every day with people whose political views are diametrically opposed to mine. We, the people, can honestly difffer without rancor. The breaking point is where any one viewpoint attempts to legislate its views on others without their consent.

Cogitate on that.

Always shocking when you disagree with me!

But thanks for clarifying that the you you were referring to was the big you and not the me you. I thank you for that, you get me?

So, since we are on the subject, just how much water and toiletries do you guys have stashed away?

I have 22,000 gallons... plus another 6,000 gallons if I count the koi pond water which I will only use for flushing toilets if the water goes. Since it is just my wife and I, if we each drink a half gallon every day, we are good for about 60 years. However assume we use a gallon per day for cooking and misc use... so call it 30 years.

I have about six-eight rolls of TP in each bathroom, plus a case in the garage... not as a stash but just what I regularly keep. Nothing upsets me more than running low on a roll and reaching into the bathroom vanity and not finding any :)

Joking aside... do people really think a virus is going to shut down the water utility? Really?

Id say “wow” but I bet you’d have all of that extra volume anyway.

The Corona Virus is a common cold shitshow only sensationalized for political purposes. So I would rather be entertained by that, then the eBika Virus.
I hope you are joking about this. Putting all politics aside, Corona virus is really nothing like the common cold. In China mortality rate for those over 80 yo is 15%, and it seems to be much higher in the same population, maybe up to 50% in Italy. The affected regions are in serious medical pressure with no available hospital beds, shortage of ventilators and overworked medical personnel. It’s pretty scary. If you have elderly parents/grandparents and loved ones with chronic illness, this is damn serious. I honestly wish we could take away all politics out of this and just do What we can to minimize the virus.

Anyone who poo poos should have seen the Draconian measures in China to quell it, or the extreme quarantine being taken in Italy. My cousin, who lives in Westchester County, NY where someone who returned from Italy (I think) rode the train to work a few days; now there's 1,000 people quarantined, schools and churches closed and a limit on the number of individuals who can congregate.

Very cool old Corona! We had a 2 door version (with 2 speed toyoglide auto trans), they are worth some bucks these days. My first car I got when I was 15 was a '71 Corona Mark 2 , the Lexus version of the Corona at the time, 4 speed MT and dealer added A/C. Good gas mileage but didn't help me pick up chicks back then...

Hope no one minds that this E-bike thread got derailed into a Corona virus thread then into a Corona car thread....

Well...
I’m actually not kidding. I’m sure you have experienced the same sensationalization, the blaming of certain political figure(s) that I have. As I have sifted through the pandemic media blast, I have tried to find the facts...
As always, I turn to my imtbtrails fact checker @littlewave who certainly will emotionally kick me in the groin if I’m wrong...:whistling:
Here is two that shares some common sense for example:

I found these to be common facts and perspectives about Covid-19. Even CNN has stated the same in their health section.

Yes if you are in poor health the threat increases. They are currently discovering that very small number of children are being infected. The common flu continues to provide the bigger threat. Naturally I am not down playing any tragedies or threats it may impose related to the virus. But the eBika Virus has proven to make me much more sick than even the common cold. :coffee:
