One More eBike Debate

Well I love you Mikie. I think you have done a fantastic job with the place! This site shines compared to the former site we used to belong to. I was a die hard and one of the last to leave. I at first thought it was another OC dominated place with lots of Fully loop and the Path. It was only later that I realized it was a Canadian site. I even still ride using tubes after someone had a terrible fall with tubeless. He told me to avoid tubeless and I always have, even though my bike is completely tubeless compatible.
As far as pleasing the group, I have always been pleased. I do not get a paycheck from this site so if somebody is displeased and throws a fit; C'est la vie. I never chastise a rider for going places that they should not, um not given outright permission. I never comment on adventures of in those places as this is a public forum and I think it is smarter to take the 5th. Although there are some wicked places that are off the Grid and I am sure would be worth the price of admission. One time WJ Clinton and Newt closed the national parks and then opened them. I found myself at the top of the Bright Angel Trail at sunset. The trail was completely empty. That was the hardest thing to resist. No people, no mules, leaping water bars and a fast dropping trail that switchbacks do into the Grand Cannon. Talk about exposure ARGH.
So I will not shame you or anyone else in the grand adventure.
This Wuhan closure sucks and if I were to venture out on the single track it would be at sunset as there is nobody out there as the sun goes down. You may even not see the closure sign since the lighting is low.
Happy Easter Buddy and happy trails to you

I'd never drop $3.5k on something like this, but if someone gave this to me FLoop KOM is mine! :Roflmao:Roflmao:Roflmao:Roflmao:Roflmao

I know people have commented on Rock n Road folks and e-bikes where they aren’t permitted and I saw it first hand today at Oaks. While I am sure whoever reads my email that I am going to send them will probably laugh and trash it I don’t care. When small businesses are stressed like they are now I would assume they don’t want negative attention.

When the owner does it, you may as well piss in the wind...

San Juan Trail... And he had an attitude. I used to sort of look up to him, because he had a lot of top Strava times on my local stuff in south OC. None of it is e-bike legal...Now I know he juices where juicing isn’t allowed.

I emailed the people listed for the other three shops pointing out that their associate isn’t helping the cause nor their business. He is the person listed for the Anaheim Hills store. Apparently the ego is too strong to keep Strava off when riding Oaks on an e-bike, or it’s an “f-you” stance.

I’m not sure if I was just scolded or not, if I was, I have a career for you in leadership at Northrop Grumman!
I think I know that guy you speak of regarding his adamant opinion related to tubeless... he still suffers from the Ti plate in his right shoulder from that event.

...and if my dense Canadian noggin, eh... is hearing my off grid adventures qualifies me as either the kettle or the pot... I get it. Like I said, I’m dense.

I fail daily in leadership, I should be more like others on here and not have an opinion, or maybe the guy who chooses to not express it. I never want my opinion to be the theme of this site. I built the site because I just wanted a place to belong. But the one thing I think I have convinced all these hooligans of... is... I love mountain biking. I love the sport, I love the people that ride mountain bikes... they are a hearty bunch. When I saw @mike break out the duct tape for a wound he gathered on the Palm Canyon Epic? I fell in love with that dude! I respect hearty people. I like the pain we suffer, and yes... I like the recovery from a crash and then going out and kicking that same trails ass!

I get that there are those that want to hang on to mountain biking after their prime, I’m all in on those folks. But these punks going out on eBikes that have the fitness, or people that makes excuses and are lazy? No respect.

My sport of mountain biking is now tainted. Once again, technology has provided a handicap, an equalizer to my best efforts. I’m 61 and I still try to shred? My love for my sport is greater than the physical pain I experience every day from younger days of XC battle, crashes and burns.

I apologize if my passion drives any kind of wedge between me and eBelievers.
I could see myself owning an eBike for doing trailwork. But to be honest? When I can not ride my human powered bicycle anymore, I will leave the sport and do something else. I will not compromise my fellow mountain bikers on trail advocacy or MTB perception to the public, and certainly will not roll over after my days of riding are past with my current beliefs. Love you too my good Brothah! Love your contributions to this site, it would not be the same without you!

Update:

I received a response from the RnR owner thanking me for my email and explaining that while they are for them gaining access they should not be representing themselves out there in places they aren’t allowed yet. The ride that prompted my email was deleted last night when I was receiving follow requests.

We had a cordial exchange and I did mention that while my email might sound like I’m bit*hing, which I admitted I was, there is history behind it. I started riding mountain bikes at Oaks and the surrounding hills back in the early 90’s and have seen it grow into not only a great place for mountain bike trails but somewhere that mountain bikers have poured a lot of sweat into the dirt making it better. (For example, I saw non dot Jon out there digging yesterday as he often is, kudos to that guy).

Not to beat a dead horse about whether or not e-bikes belong here nor there, I just can’t agree with people blatantly disregarding the rules and posting these rides. This is amplified for someone who is extremely popular on Strava and in the local “scene” as this guy is.

Yes, as I have mentioned I do break speed rules but that is apples to oranges when talking about something being illegal 100% of the ride in the parks.

I hope everyone is doing well and I really don’t want to stir anything up, just had me a little riled up yesterday.

I'm actually surprised he responded... Even more sursprised that the response wasn't a big hearty "F- You!".

When someone pointed out to Hans Rey that his San Juan rides aren't legal, he basically told them to go pound salt...

Hans probably doesn’t need our money, and I can’t think that he’s got any new lucrative deals. His Pacific Blue residuals have got to be substantial...:Barefoot:
