New Bike Day!

I like my current stead quite a bit. Point it down and it is fast, fun and stable. Point it up and it's a serious grind. So I've had my eye out for a bike with climbing prowess. As we all know, here in So Cal climbing is the lions share of the time spent on the bike.
After looking, and second guessing myself, etc etc I pulled the trigger. The component build is lower end, but the same frame as all but the highest build, and it's still almost 3 lbs lighter than my current bike. Figure once I swap components ( J's Garage is going to get a call ) it'll drop another 3-4 lbs. Heck, I just hope it doesn't float away like a balloon!!

A 2021 Epic EVO. or as I thought while riding it, a rocket...

Your stickers match my bike!

Congrats Dan. I hope it fulfills your every dream! I have watched your trail riding priorities shift in the time I've known you, so it's smart to get a bike that matches what you love to do now. Still bummed that it has to be from THAT brand. But can't deny they make great bikes. Stoke on my friend, stoke on!

Yay! nice pickup @Danimal. Now I can stop asking when you're going to pull the trigger.
Planning a Harding / Joplin run this weekend, bring it along and lets see how it goes up and down :D

My new bike, Pivot Mach 6, should be in probably the first weekend in April.
I will have to drive down to the OC area to pick it up and I plan on riding Saturday and Sunday. Saturday I plan on Powder Canyon to Turnbull to check out its climbness. What trail should I ride to see how it handles on the downhill ?
It's supposed to be a good play bike and not built just for speed like a 29r.

Joplin to the Luge. Varied DH with an uphill test(s). A few amicable riders here would, no doubt, love an excuse for another lap (I'm not there, sorry).

Congrats on your new bike!

I did the Luge once on my SLX (20ish years ago) and didn't impress me, maybe I wasn't in a "zone", and need to go at it again.
I would need to do a second lap so I would know what to expect. I hope I have the hootspa to do it......

I never was and never will be the fastest or even very good on a bike, but nobody has more fun than I do....

You wanted DH trails to test your new bike. Better still on an amnesia run so you can see what it does "on-sight." The Luge is a good way to close the loop, not a destination. I'm kind of busting your balls, my friend. That loop is a test of rider, not bike. Everything you can imagine has gone down it. A tandem included. The unsound of mind have ascended it. Stay psyched for NBD!

A "New to me" bike day! I've been playing with the idea of a full suspension bike to go back and forth with my hardtail on and I found a deal I just couldn't pass up - $2900

2019 Stumpy Carbon Comp. The guy I bought it from says he bought it new to ride at Mammoth with friends and he had a weekend of riding on it before hanging it up in the garage. It looks brand new. He threw in his helmet and bike pump too!

I'm hoping to do some riding in Mammoth and Tahoe this summer with it but until then, still working on dropping some Quarantine Lbs!

Update:
Still looking like the first weekend in April. Last Thursdays ride I blew out the shock on my Anthem........you guessed it, 2 weeks for the rebuild. You will be seeing my posts in the SingleSpeed section, that's the last running bike I have......

Score!

Well! Not a new bike, but my kids presented me with the big (29") brother Manitou Markhor front fork, so I scrounged around the various parts repositories and put the old Niner (Scandium, no less) together. Rode it up B* tonight, and it'll be a fine spare bike.

So I've had my new Fuel for a few months now...I love it! I was in the garage the other day taking my reflectors and dork disk off and my wife pops in...

Wife: How come you're taking those things off. You're going to put them back on right? Why would you pay all that money for the bike and take those parts off?
Me: Yeah, I guess you're right...maybe I'll put them back on to go with the handlebar streamers and fenders you're getting me for my birthday...

She's not talking to me today :) ...and I guess I'll put my flame suit on for my comment on the fenders :)

Still no news on my new bike, but I did get my rebuilt shock back for the Anthem.
Assemble tomorrow with the new drivetrain. Not bad, got over 10 years out of the original set. Then ride Thursday.
As I type this I noticed a trail I haven't seen before, across the valley.
