Music... I Listened to Some

My daughter sent me a video of Puddles Pitty Party with Post Modern Jukebox singing Royals.
I was like what the heck is this.......
Until he started to sing. I'm liking PMJ.
Sorry no link or video posted.
Yeah, he’s pretty great.

I listened to some music with Rick Beato reviewing. If you haven't seen him on youtube, he's very good at analyzing what's being played!! If you're a guitarist, you will especially like his analysis

RIP, Tom Verlaine.

Television's Marquee Moon album was very influential to me as a developing guitarist. I remember going to the Living Room in Providence, Rhode Island, back around 1985 for a Tom Verlaine solo show. Can't remember who the opening act was, but I definitely remember that Tom and I were pretty much the only audience members. We exchanged pleasantries, but I didn't want to overstep my boundaries.

Here's the title track. I have to admit that I like Richard Lloyd's short solo after the 2nd chorus better than Tom's long solo after the 3rd chorus. Nevertheless, it's a fantastic example of great modal lead guitar playing, something that I was very focused on at the time.

My daughters photography is getting busy.
She's now the photographer for 6 up and comming bands in Fresno.
Did a few Shindown shows, an Eric Martin (Mr. Big), and Jeff Scott Soto (Nikki Sixx was there, but she was too scared to meet him)
Her dream is to shoot an Avantasia gig in Germany.
We shall see how this journey (pun intended) leads her.

Hey music lovers, I want to HIGHLY encourage you to head to LA next Saturday to see the Old 97's.
They are one of my FAVORITE live bands and put on a GREAT show.
They're playing at the Teragram which has become my new favorite venue BTW. Real easy access off the 110 and $20 parking right across the street. Great PA system there where I saw Yo La Tengo a couple weeks ago.

I agree wholeheartedly with this recommendation Old 97’s are a great live act. Lead singer Rhett Miller has some really great solo stuff as well. Unfortunately, I can not make this show and I am bummed

This weekend, I am headed to Big Sur to see a two night gig by a band called Mapache. They are playing at the Fernwood. They are kind of mellow, guitar, harmonies and I am really digging them right now. May even get on the bike if the rain isn’t too bad.

I keep getting OK Go stuck in my head every day day. The music is good, not my favorite, pretty pop like (but Indie).

But their music videos are the best. Seriously, the best in the business. The only thing that holds a candle to their music videos in Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Seriously.

Here is just an example:

And no, there are no "tricks" here. Just lots and lots of takes and choreography. This is a one shot. And if you like this one even just a little bit, there are even more amazing videos (yes, better). I picked this one for somewhat obvious reasons :whistling:

Well that was neat!

Went out to see Fake Names this evening with my Buddy Tyler that I’ve known since high school. He still lives down in cdm but, it blows me away how often he goes to shows. I think he’s up in LA like once or twice a week for shows. And he has a wife and kid. Makes me feel lazy.

anyway, totally fun. fake Names would be considered a super group with ex-members of Fugazi, embrace, bad religion, dag nasty. And then they went and threw in the singer from refused.
The Swede puts on a very energetic, well choreographed show. Music is decent. I think what I love most about punk bands that are my age or older is that they know to wrap it up at a decent hour-total professionals!
we were walking out at 10:52. Saw Zach de La Rocha from inside out there too.

We should organize an iMTBpitcircles.com event!

I saw the Melvins and Mr. Bungle at the Glasshouse on Wednesday night.

I think, for me, the heaviness of the Melvins always hits the spot when I’m in the mood for loud, fast, and slightly weird.
They were fantastic. The sound was good and the band was very tight.

Mr. Bungle I never really listened to. My roommate freshman year was into them and always tried to play their stuff for me.
According to my friend who had invited me, they were only playing their thrash stuff.
Being a fan of Mike Patton since I was a kid, I will say, I was a little star-struck. Then I realized one of the guitar players was Ian From Anthrax!
Supposedly the drummer is from Slayer, but, I only know like, two Slayer songs.

I didn't take any photos. Although, I would have if I'd run into Mike or Ian in the crowd. After about an hour of solid thrash from Mr. Bungle, we decided to call it a night and headed home while the band played on.

Dunno if this has been put up previously - didn't see that it has. But if you want to see musicians doing music...here you go.

Don Henley drumming away. Glenn Frey doing the Glenn Frey thing. Joe Walsh looking stoned....

Hotel California was such a fascinating song to me as a kid. The storytelling element and the mysticism element just blew my little kid mind. I always imagined ghosts, and a lonely traveler checking-in and being imprisoned there.
Bad Company's Feel like making Love gave me weird, equally vivid nightmares. I remember sleeping in the back of my dad's 4Runner driving through Mexico when I was like 7, he was playing that song and in fitful sleep, I was dreaming of bikini-clad women dancing in cages in the jungle.
That's a weird thing for a kid to be dreaming, obviously.

Continuing on my quest to revisit the music I grew up on....a classic:

Interestingly, it's a true story, although the names were changed. Written by Shel Silverstein (the children's author, and Playboy columnist) about his own failed attempt at "Sylvia."
What is an operator and why is she asking for 40 cents more for the next 3 minutes?
We live in a whole new world. Where has the time gone. Man I am old.

Ayreon:
The day that the world breaks down.
Lotsa, lotsa talent in this piece.

Unleash the Archers:
Awakening
It may be too fast for you old folks.
My fingers were hurting just watching it.
Brittney has a powerful voice.
