Music... I Listened to Some

It’s a good song because it invokes nostalgia for the simpler village life. I figure since I’ve posted plenty of Bob Dylan songs on this website, songs which were superior in savagery to this little ditty, this one would be fine. We’re just caught up in the contemporaneousness of the situation. This one would be good to cover by a punk band, and we could gather in a pit circle.

I'm on the cusp of an epiphany here...people like different things. I'm convinced that's true!!!!

And some will say that what you like is garbage, and what I like is the bomb. And vice versa.

Bang the gong.

I went down to San Pedro on Thursday to see Dillinger four and a few other bands for Recess Record’s annual three day party at their venue, The Sardine.
Toys that kill played too. I was never into them or FYP as a kid, but they were pretty fun live.
Dillinger Four were very tight and fun. I was trying to stay by the front while avoiding the dancing but I kept getting jostled around and people were spilling beer all over me so I finally just gave in and danced like an idiot. It was very satisfying.

FYP I saw once years ago and super enjoyed their show.

With the loss of Robbie Robertson last week, I have heard a lot about his work with The Band, but he had an outstanding solo album back in 1987 that stands up today. I would call it Alt Rock. The album weaves in a lot of his Native American (or more accurately, indigenous Canadian) heritage and has a few pretty decent guest musicians. Here are a couple of songs. This is how I choose to remember Robbie Robertson.

In viewing both of these videos back to back, it is clear that the person who compiled and published the "Sweet Fire of Love" video pulled most of the footage from the "Showdown at Big Sky" video. So just listen.

Anyone have a guess who has joined Robbie for Sweet Fire of Love? It's pretty hard to tell. It could take you all of 1 second to figure it out. The guitar itself is pretty distinctive.

A couple of thoughts on that...

How they manage a coherent 5-minute solo for three guitars is still fascinating. The bassist and pianist were working their asses off too. For most bands then and now, a "solo" that long would be an incoherent mess of noise. Especially since most musicians then (and maybe now) were drunk or high while performing. I don't think these gents were. I saw a Budweiser can on Powell's piano, and a couple of Heineken bottles on one of the Peavey amps, but I'd like to believe they were somewhat sober to pull that off. Ronnie puts down his Heine as the song starts.

And as I look out at the sea of extremely white people - mostly teens and 20s - I noticed the one black kid at 6:45 in the video rocking out! (middle right, above the yellow baseball cap)

Who was on Ronnie's t-shirt? Looked a little like Ozzy, and a little like John Lennon, but neither would have been t-shirt material in 1977.

Which one's Lynyrd? ;)

LOL. I never even noticed how white it was. Anytime I look at video from the '70s or '80s, I'm always amazed how thin people were compared to now. Processed food and sugar. I think Ronnie was the fattest guy in the stadium. :Roflmao

Lots of those (now) granny's were hot too.

I'm surprised you did not recognize Neil Young on his shirt. I only knew that because I watched the Netflix documentary about a month ago and they mentioned it
