Mt. Bike Celeb Sightings

True story. My last trip to Sea Otter about 15 years ago, I stood on the start line under the Yokohama sign right next to Marla Streb, Gary Fischer, Tinker Jaurez, and Mike Synard. Kind of a funny story, as the announcer stepped up to the start line and stated we will have a few Mtb celebrities riding along with us today and could everyone move up closer to the start. Well everyone moved up and stopped about a 25 feet behind the Mtb celebs, I kept going and stood right next to Marla and we exchanged pleasantries. Then the announcer ask the gang to introduce themselves and came down the line with a microphone, got to me and said your are? My response was, I'm Todd and just along for the ride. I have a picture, but would be a challenge to find it after all these years.

That’s is awesome. Congrats on being Todd.

Last year I ran into our very own celeb @bigringrider101

I guess those kids next to him are kinda famous as well, Jon Buckell and Bruce Klein. I think they ride bikes really fast

I've "met" Tom Ritchey a couple of times at Rwanda; but so did a lot of people. But, I did give him MTB advice and he took it. He had flatted on his tandem, fixed it and passed me again all in about five minutes. As he went blazing past, I pointed out that he should close his rear brake. At the crest before the next downhill he did stop and reset his brake.

Mike Sinyard I met when I was about 10 and he was early 20's. Basically living in his VW van going to San Jose State. He was dating my best friend's older sister. We'd often be at the house at the same time. I'm sure I was just a snot nosed kid. Though, later I did buy one of the first year Stumpjumpers from him. Then, he and Linda got married and they moved to godforsaken Morgan Hill. That place was considered a hole by us up in San Jose. The rest as they say, is history.

@Cougar and I had a nice conversation with Brian Lopes today at the top of Meadow in Aliso. It was just a regular conversation about rattlesnakes, weekend crowds, awareness bells, weather and scrapes and bruises. Craig had no idea who he was, and frankly doesn't care much. Craig did care about the woman who was with Brian :geek:.

Apparently, Lopes rode up there for a G-Form photo shoot, otherwise I doubt he would be in the park on a Saturday at noon - at least not on a "civilian" trail.

Good to hear he's out and about after that crash he just had.

Yesterday I saw a an imtb celeb at a certain Palmdale bike shop. Too star struck to say anything and I wasn't sure if it was her at first. Then I felt kind of weird about bothering a celeb when they were just going about their business. Plus, what do you say "You don't know me but aren't you @mountaingirl sara ?"
Haha, celeb...hardly! You should have said hi, I don’t bite!;) The shop is looking really good, and busy!
Do you ride Golden Eagle?

You are a imtbtrails celeb for sure.
Celeb status on this site is achieved in certain ways. Here is a sample list.
Epic back country rides. Solo improves this score.
Rep. as a fast rider - with Strava and eye witnesses to back it up.
Rep. as a slightly crazy risk taker -in a good way.
A big crash with injuries that require extraction from the riding area + surgery. Photos of said injuries and scars really pump this up. Extra credit for needing a replacement helmet. If the bone broken is a collarbone double points - we've been there!
And - not being a guy kid of helps.

I have ridden Golden Eagle but it has been a while. Mikie lead a small group of us on a late December ride if I remember right. I need to get back out there.

When I’m back in the mtb saddle maybe we can get a herd together for a GE ride! Are you on IG?
