I Rode My Bike Today...

Well... After a fun romp out to Old Camp last night, I had some time and needed a little suffering. I've been running a harder gear on the single speed for the last few rides. At social pace, it's pretty manageable. It's even kinda fun to push harder than normal.

So... I got the bright idea to do a solo Black Star out and back today. It hurt. Lots. And it wasn't any faster than when I run my normal gearing or when I run an easier gear. I'll be swapping the rear cog before Saturday's death march.  Even though it hurt, I'll take it. Wrightwood 50 is coming up fast.

I did see several other riders today, and quite a few hikers. There were also several e-motos. The riders were all without shirts, helmets, and shoes. I'm pretty sure they were in flip flops. One guy was talking on the phone while holding it against his shoulder with his chin. Going downhill. Shirtless. On a fire road. With brakes squealing.

Just curious what a “harder” SS gear ratio is for you. I’m guessing that your “easy” is harder than my “hard”.

32x20 is really pushing it for the rides I do... normally I have the 21 on.

Got out late....especially with the shorter days. Wasn't even 100% sure I was gonna ride.

Rolled over to the Oaks. Legs felt better than I they would.

Just kept moving. Weather was weird....was humid, but dry.....overcast, but breezy.

Just before dark going up BumbleBee to Oak, I had too much power down and snapped my chain. Who needs an ebike....I make my own power. Ok, actually I shifted like a total hack. Quick fix. Rolled out of the park just at dark.

Yup, yesterday rode Exploration trail in running springs with @knucklebuster and @Tom the Bomb . Started with the camp6 climb skirting slide peak, which goes through a young sequoia grove. Then first run down, they showed me a cool rock roll to the left side of the trail I never knew was there. Then two more downhill laps, using car shuttles. On The 2d time on that rock roll, I forgot to lower my dropper:eek: barely rode it out. Finally cleaned that one left-hand switchback. Weather was great (seemed not quite as cool as predicted though) trail was dry and loose. Great day on the bike with a couple of cool dudes who impress with with their riding strength and skill.

Nice one, team!

Yep, those guys let the action do the talking. Solid partners.

I want Wednesdays off...

(but I don't want to be unemployed to do so)

Not really a solo GE ride! There were lots of bear prints, I saw a mama bobcat and her cub, the cub was so curious about me that he stopped, sat and watched me watching him..it was awesome! Also lots of hunters out there, more than usual for that area. Two other mtn bikers who took the FR the whole way, they weren’t interested in saying hi so I just went on my way:whistling:
Oh and hardly any bugs, it was a bit too chilly for them today..yass!
Such a perfect day, the kind that makes your heart feel full:inlove:

@mtnbikej , @TheProfessor and I did a mellow ride at the beach today... It really was mellow. Lots of stopping to enjoy the sights... :whistling: We hit some of the usual suspects: Camarillo, Stagecoach, Old Emerald, BFI, Fenceline, Missing Link, etc... We ended up cutting it short, though, so as not to kill the Professor.

Fun day on the stealth Lizard.

Burritos at Sharky's afterwards...

40 miles and 6500 feet...

Coming down BFI... Had to stop for the view.

A detour to Ridge Park for a water refill. Professor was ogling the Santa Cruz bikes...

As I was looking at the two Chameleons side by side at Ridge Park, I had a feeling of deja vu...

From July 2016... Two Highballs. Both have gone to the bicycle graveyard in the sky.

Such a good day on the bike. The first climb out of Quail had me hacking pretty good.....combination of dry air and that damn climb. It would eventually subside.

May not have been the best route, but it was just a suggested route that I did back when it was all about the stats.

It started off quite chilly, but would eventually warm up.....alot. Things were going well for the first 20 miles or so. Then it just got stupid hot. Parts of the canyon where there was zero breeze were pretty brutal. The Professor started to fade in the heat.

Once we climbed out of Emerald Canyon we took inventory of our fluids..... @Faust29 and the Professor was down to about 1/2 bottle, and we were still 8 miles or so from the car, and with the Professor was done, so we made our way back up to RidgePark. Refilled bottles and took the easy way back Quail via Shady Canyon.

We ended up shorter than the planned ride, but still had fun. Still had plenty of legs, which was great.
