I Rode My Bike Today...

I rode my bike today...but not much.

Got a later morning start...actually wasn't sure what I was gonna do today. Finally got on the bike about 9:30 and it was warm. By the time I was climbing up Southridge...it was hot. Going up Bovinian, it was really hot. Chose to come down Little Canyon and call it a short day....then made the call to do Bane Canyon and Bane Ridge on the way out. Very hot at that point. At the ranger station, one of the employees said the park was closed...something to do with the new slurry seal that put on the new road...didn't see any signs at the back entrance. Wondered why there wasn't anybody else out there...thought it was just because of the heat.

The Russian Thistle is getting really bad. In a couple more weeks, some of the trails will be gone.....but did I tell you they slurry sealed the new Bane Cyn Rd. :speechless: Priorities, I know. The new road to get in is great...unfortunately there won't be any trails left to visit.

Anyway 29 miles / 2900'

Nice David! You too make today's required points for ride and pics. ;)
Did you post the actual pics...? or just Flickr hot links to the pics?
The reason I ask is I want to see if my diabolical plan of turning links into attachments is working.
If so....
.....Next......the world!

J,
I can see this as a problem as you ride EVERY road, every day. With nothing on the planet new to ride daily, I would be bored as well. (yeah, I got time on my hands).

Uhhhh, where's the pics J?

Wasn't so much boredom....just knew it was gonna be hot, and didn't want to get up early. Doing that tomorrow.

Plus saved the legs a bit for tomorrow.

Also don't like driving to get to a ride, so I was having that battle in my head.

Was afraid the the phone would melt if I took it out. Sorry no picks today. I'll make up for it.

Flickr lets you grab the BB code, so I pasted that into the editor. Is that the right answer for world domination???

I think so. The links are only good as long as the original is there but if they get deleted, then imtbtrails shows a dead link. Now, we have written an "Add On" that takes the image from any source and converts it to an actual attachment.

James Bond has got nothing on us....
(Repeat evil laugh as needed)

Remember all the little people that got you there!

Whiting ranch park put on a Poker Ride today. Set up as a typical whiting loop of about 6.2 miles, with an extra mile going into
Aliso Edison trail to get an extra credit prize drawing. Turn out was pretty good considering the temp. Had a good talk with the ranger, and he mentioned that over 300 signed up and only about 200 showed. Most likely due to the heat. The temps weren't bad though as there was a cool breeze until about 11:30 or so.

To keep the ride worth while I rode from my house, tossed in cattle pond and Marks bench. And the extra credit was almost back to the house too..rode that section 3 times today... With that we ended up at 15.2 mi and 2350'

The prizes Rocked. They gave away a trek bike, and about 10 combos including light and a new pair of Oakleys. Although I didn't win anything My friend Jeff won a light and Oakleys, have you covered day and night. Only two hours earlier he said he wanted to buy a new pair...go figure
It was free to sign up and ride!

Signing in and getting my crad. We were there a little early if you can tell.

Second check point, top of mustard.

after the ride hanging out noticed this pile of bikes, about 10 ( I count eight in the pic). Found it quite amusing

And the tents. Not as many people I'm sure due to the heat.
Had a good Chick filet wrap while hanging out, and free bottled water from the parks!

You can't post here, because you rode. But you posted here, therefore you didn't ride. But you can't post here, because you rode...

I think this qualifies as a genuine, real-life paradox.

Yes, but I think you got it backward. this isn't the "I didn't ride my bike today because..." thread. This is the "I rode my bike today" thread, therefore... I can't post here because I DIDN'T ride, but I posted here, so I must have ridden, but I shouldn't have posted here, because I didn't ride...

Haven't been riding much lately cause of the heat. Last couple of rides were easy road rides as well as todays. Damn I'm turning into a roadie:eek:. From Fullerton I found the Whittier Greenway Trail. An abandon RR track converted to a paved recreational pathway. Better than riding on the road but still have to cross many intersections:thumbsdown:. Continued on to the San Gabriel River to the Whittier Narrows Dam and back. 30 miles. Instead of riding the road bike , I took the fs MTB:thumbsup:. What a plush ride:cool:. A road bike is great on totally flat/smooth concrete but where you gonna find that? All I see is broken up concrete/ assphalt, pot holes, bumps, carcasses, etc. I'm seeing putting 1" slick tires and a 52 tooth chainring on the MTB soon. I'm digging a suspension on the road. Plus if I see something I want to huck, fire away:D. Oh well, at least I'm thankful I pedaled today.

I've pretty much learned to deal with less than optimal asphalt. The city I work for has decreed that the route I take is lowest on the priority list for resurfacing, even though it's probably in the worst condition.

Works great for cars, not so much for the road bike.

But I'll still do it. I'm nothing if not insane...I mean, dedicated to keeping my carbon emission down.:)

Okay,
Herz? Who you kidding... No points. But! you should get chafe points for an excellent distraction. So some points, plus bonus points since after all, you are the OP for a 50 page thread!

Danimal, you definitely scored pointage. There is no argueing that...

Grego? Points. That's based on riding the mountain bike instead of the road bike, but you lost potential points for no pics. Unless.... You rode a bling bike. But how you gonna prove that now?

RwS, you get a few points for calling Herz out on posting wher he should not have. And I lose any points, as I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Well that about sums up the day...

Beat the heat ride yesterday. Texted a realtor buddy on my route Friday night and asked if he'd be up for a sunrise ride. He informed me he would be slow as he hasn't ridden in a month. I said no problem. Being in the heat all day Thursday and Friday I wasn't looking to push the pace or the distance. Met up at 7 and discussed options. I tried talking him in to Suicide and he said not yet. Last time I took him down he went to OTB. He says he doesn't like riding trails he has crashed on!?!? We decided on Dead Cow which starts at the top of Albertson fire road right next to Suicide. Of course the whole climb I try to convince him that Suicide would be more fun but he would have none of it. Dead Cow is actually chunkier and longer so is just as fun. Finished the ride just after 10 and it was already in the 90s. Hoping to get in a ride this morning.

Dennis cresting the last climb.

I am fulfilling your request to keep you entertained while you are recovering. Oh - and glad to see that the Percocet is working! :whistling::thumbsup:

Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go earn the right to post on this thread.

Oh yeah! Five minutes after posting here I decided to join JRA's EZ road ride. Decided to ride from home and meet them en route. Rode a few miles then took a dirt connector over to the Westlake side. Ended up meeting the group about 15 miles in. From there it was an easy pace out and back on Potrero. From there I decided to beat the heat and head back before it got too hot. Got back to my dirt connector and had a short little climb and boy did I feel it on the road bike. Once I got back to pavement it was pretty much downhill from there. What a great day!
