I Rode My Bike Today...

Yep, got out this morning with @mtnbikej and @Faust29 for a cruise up B*. Made pretty good time ... for me ....

I was good with skipping Sierra Peak. It was kinda cool and breezy at Beeks.

Fun romp down the singletracks on the way back. I got a little sideways:oops: on Booby Trap but finished it upright.

Strange to see J with the flat instead of me. :whistling: Since I had flatted spectacularly on Friday, Steve said something about never having a flat on his Forekasters..
but as he put the bike on the rack at the end one of them had a slight sidewall gash. Oopsies.

Fun B* run. Managed to stay mostly with the group.

And I just found out that I matched someone's time in my almost-uncontrolled romp down the Booby Trap drop in...

Spent the weekend up on the mountain with friends and family! My friend David picked me and my son up in his overlander rig, and we drove the dirt way up from Highland, up Alder Creek, then Clark's Grade, to Skyline. Found our preferred camping spot just as it was getting dark. Set up camp, cooked up some fajitas, and had a great time. Slept in late this morning, had a healthy breakfast consisting of bacon and beer, then hit up Skyline Trail. Weird how it's hard to pedal when you stay up late and eat like crap. Finally started feeling better on the trail. First time up there this year, and I always forget how magic it is. Really, just the perfect trail for me. Varied terrain, amazing views, go as long as short as you want it to. Just a blast. Finished up with dinner at Azteca Grill, then back home. Pretty fun time!

This looks like perfection!

After a killer week at work, I needed a ride so I joined a combo group of old STR/new IMTB for a visit to the Chino side of CHSP. The fire roads were just like I remembered but I wasn't really feeling like it was going to be my day. After a short pit stop at the campground, we wound up and over to San Juan Trail (I think) which proved to be my kryptonite. The CX bike didn't like about 10% of the trail and I had to do a little walk of shame in two areas. Then my stem loosened and I wasn't about to see what strike three entailed. Fun even without my best energy - 14mi / 1745' / 50+ suicide bunnies / 1 yote

The rest of the group killed it & Vincent the trail slayer pushed hard to get in 10k feet over two days - Skypark, CHSP & Floop. Way to go Vincent!

Saturday's Sierra Peak 'ride' may have been a portal I needed to squeeze through.. I lazed around yesterday then threw my bike in the back of the truck and headed over to Black Star. Felt good right off the bat, but maybe because the first section was downhill with a tailwind and I didn't bring the camelbak. Rounded the first turn and started climbing and still felt OK. Again OK after the turnoff to the falls.. Still OK at the 1st cattle guard.. over the first summit and through the sublime Hidden Valley area and a little past the 2nd cattle guard. Kept the lid on the whole time and probably could've made Beek's, but decided to save that for another day. Turned around and pushed the pace a bit into the headwind, up the short climb and down through the funky fire road turns to the bottom.

So many hikers out. Is it always that crowded on a Sunday afternoon, or was it a Father's Day thing? I counted 24 vehicles parked at the gate at 6:30pm. Not a problem as the hikers were spread out and courteous, but it seemed like a lot of people walking out-and-back on a graded dirt road and past a militarized ranch.

Gotta say, I miss the peacocks, the ruts, the ranch house and the cows. Otherwise it was a surprisingly good ride after the barn burner the day before. Is there light at the end of this tunnel?

The peacocks are still out there.....saw them yesterday morning.

Yes, all the hiker were going to out check out the Blackstar Falls......er Blackstar Cliffs.

@Runs with Scissors and @mtnbikej -

Only an easy run up Black Star and down the single tracks... I jinxed myself. The mountain gods were angry with my impertinence and demanded recompense. Payment to the gods? One front tire with an inch long sidewall tear. I'm not even sure where it happened... The sealant is holding, but I wouldn't trust it out there. Back home before 10:00 to deal with the in-laws.

Short term solution? Steal the front wheel off the Highball, adjust the brake caliper, and we're in business. Gods appeased.

My Ikon is still holding air.:unsure:

Rode my bike solo today through Aliso/Woods on a very pleasant afternoon. What I call my “Trilogy” loop(s) including Lynx, Rockit, and Meadows connected by Cholla climbs. Didn’t stop or put a foot down except to pull bee stinger out of my chest after damn thing flew into my shirt. Felt nice to just keep going and not stop to wait or catch breath. Posted strong times and broke 44 PRs including top time today down Meadows. I’m sure it will be broke by midnight, but feels cool to see name up top on something. Haha.
My new bike feels solid. Love it
