I Rode My Bike Today...

Another Tuesday.....Another Tuesday @ the Oaks.

Today I was solo. Headed out a little after 3:00 and it was on the toasty side. Didn't feel all that great the first hour. Eventually that wore off and I started to find my groove. Chased the @trailslayer down Chutes Ridgeline. The last hour turned into social hour.

Would have been able to get more in...but ran out of daylight.

Lots of people out.

Good job, riders

I woke up in some nameless drainage with my tent fly iced up and hose frozen. Slow departure, but attacked every climb on the trail until my motor said enough. Hit the Grand Canyon Highway (closed to auto traffic) for some nice paved miles into Jacob Lake. Guessing 25 mi. total.

Big ditch from Kaibab Plateau:

Social spin to Old Camp and back down the Luge with @mtnbikej and @guywhodoesntdoforums. Nice evening up there...

17 miles and 3000 feet.

Top of Goat Hill...

Someone brought the Big Bike... View attachment 38680

Yeah, yeah, yeah....I knew the pace was going to be social, so I brought the social bike.

I did cheat on the earlier climbs....even dropped into the 42t cog for a minute. :whistling: Then again, I did pedal the last mile to Old Camp in the 34x24....not bad for a 31 lbs squishy bike.

The run down from Old Camp to the Luge wasn’t as fast as I thought it would be...I found a lot of those turns to be pretty slippery.

Gave a couple of riders a head start down the Luge and tried to chase them down. To big of a lead, caught one of them at the bottom of the climb out.

Fun ride nonetheless.

Thursday Night Black Star Social... Just two of us, and we made it up a little quicker than the normal social pace.

It physically hurt to put the gears on. Then it physically hurt to drag them all the way to Beeks. Too complicated. :gag: :p
@mtnbikej got them shifting smoothly for me in the parking lot before we headed out...

On the way back down we passed a pretty young lady squatting in the dirt for a photo shoot. Her top did not seem to fit properly :whistling:, and it looked like there was going to be a motorcycle involved at some point. Not sure why, but my heart rate spiked through that section. Oh, the things you see out there...

17 miles and 2200 feet.

Something seems wrong in this picture. And it will be rectified immediately after the Rwanda ride.

Do these gears make my butt look big?

My bike has gears, and I like it like that!

Got home, had a cheese and olive plate, took a nap, went for a ride. Not a bad life. Found one of my favorite trails that has been seriously neglected and overgrown for a long time has had a lot of love put into it. Totally rideable although just a touch sketch in a couple places. Maybe it's just me.
Great time out this evening!

With those stats, it's like you have your own private FLoop!!! (Not Idaho) :p

Did my local loop. Although not from my door. My spouse is concerned of street riding because of all the crazy drivers around. Quick drive to heritage park in west Covina and set out from there. Only a 4 or 5 minute ride up Grand to the trail head.

This trail was graded earlier this year, which left it very wide. Now is back to singletrack due to growth. Dirt is in great shape though.
Really need to practice my switchbacks.

For the first time ever I met another rider on the singletrack.

Forgot to mention I just about rode over a slithery serpent of the fanged variety. It was on the trail as I came around a corner. Surprised us both, and was luckily going fast enough for him/her to not do anything about it. It was redish and not super big/fat. First sighting of the year for me.

I rode my commuter to work today. 6.4 miles, 159ft of elevation gain. First time I've ridden something other then the stationary bike in 34 days (but who's counting?). Back feels good, I think it's time to do a little blackstar feeler on the dirt this weekend to test the waters.

Such a relief to be getting back into riding again, I'm sure my wife will appreciate the relief from my crabbiness. :)

So these are from last weekend....

Headed up to Idyllwild. HUB system late afternoon Saturday. Found some trails I hadn't been on before...

Rode my bike at Tapia canyon near Castaic lake last night. I guess you can say the theme was made in the USA night ride.
First off, James Voshell from Ethos Components brought his helmet lights for people to borrow and use in a real world environment.

Continuing with the made in the USA theme, Bobby Acuña the FOES racing sales manager brought a couple of Ridgebacks to set some new PRs on.

Bobby was on the 27.5 and James got to ride the 29er and I was left eating dust trying to keep pace in the downhills.
A couple of more shots of the 27.5

Did a fire road (mostly) cruise through the Puente Hills today.

This ride has been on my radar for a while, begin at powder canyon and follow the schabarum skyline trail to Turnbull. Today was the day.

Lots of climbing, both ways. Some street crossings (with optional sketchy tunnel inner the road), saw a coyote...

There is one section of singletrack that follows the street along the Hsai Lai temple, albeit is about 10 feet below street level and tree covered.

Finally ended at the cow trail in the Turnbull trail system. Hit that up, then up workman ridge fire road, and headed back the way I came. 19 miles, 3900 feet.
