I Rode My Bike Today...

Almost didn't ride today. Work called with a problem. Luckily I was able to take care of it in a jiffy. Unfortunately that meant a late start, like after 11am. Didn't want to stay local so headed out to Sycamore in Riverside. A little toasty was the weather when I finally arrived, but I had packed plenty of water. My plan was to just ride around aimlessly. That I did. After some time, cloud coverage rolled in cooling the temperature. Ended up covering most of the park. Only saw 3 other trail users. Very peaceful day, good for the mind and soul. 21/3000.

I railed my bike today. An all new high for me.
Got to hit "THEE" Trail Golden Eagle with @Voodoo Tom @Postal Pat and some of the SCV Crew. It was a picture perfect day to include a near KOM on the GE DH. Missed it by 2 seconds!
Man! I love that trail! ...and my bike... and then, uh, my wife. then a bunch of other assorted things....:whistling:

It's like icing on cake when you show up and see Mikie at the trail, golden eagle never disappoints even with a mechanical that brought my day to a disappointing end, the dt hub is fairly new hate to have to buy a new wheel

Rwanda "training" complete. Nice solo ride from home today. Runkle, Albertson, Powerline, Baleen, Modelo, Palo Comado, Albertson, Runkle. I passed by where I crashed on Wednesday. Not as simple as I thought it was. The rut I hit actually starts in the middle and that part of the road is way off camber. Still rider error but at least I have a good idea what happened. This brings my 10 day riding streak to an end. I ended up with 281 miles and 39,906'. Rwanda should be a "ride" in the park. Pun intended.

Did you pass by where you left your DNA the other day? :D

I met @mtnbikej at the tree farm a little before 6:00, and we rolled into the chilly canyon. It was almost 65 in RSM when I left the house. Twenty minutes later, and it's in the 40s at Black Star. o_O Thankfully that didn't last too long, and I was shedding the windbreaker just before the drop into Hidden Ranch.

The plan evolved, and we opted to turn left on Main Divide, and head for Sierra Peak... It was a casual out and back. A couple hikers and a small helicopter working in one of the smaller canyons... new power lines, maybe?

We hit the first single track at the upper gate along with Booby Trap... Both were loose and fun.

23 miles and 3300 feet... For me.

When we got back to the cars, @mtnbikej geared up for ride #2 with @horsebikerider . I only signed up for the kids' ride today. :p

Yeah, today was a little different. Met @Faust29 at the Tree Farm at 6:00 for a Blackstar/Motorway loop. However, about a mile into the ride my back tightened up. Pushed on in the cold hoping it would loosen up. We didn't push the pace going up......had the place to ourselves. Been a while since I did an early start out in B*.

We made it to the gate at Beeks' and changed the plans. Decided that we'd do an out and back to Sierra Peak. Hadn't been out there in a while. There is plenty of new growth going on out there. The road is getting pretty loose. Quiet and peaceful out there.

Turned around and headed back. Temps stayed on the cooler side for most of the way back to Beeks'.

We hit the first singletrack at the gate. It's rough....but fun....until I smacked my pinky against a bush and ripped my glove and a cut my finger.

Booby Trap is getting rough....but again I like it like that. Mostly uneventful roll back down into the canyon. By now, lots of hikers, lots of hikers with dogs and a bunch of ebikes.

Got back to the Tree Farm and swapped out my bottles. @horsebikerider was there and we were gonna ride back up to Beeks'. It was getting toasty. Eventually caught and passed one of the ebikes that we had passed on the way down.....evidently they turned around at the 2nd cattle gate. Temps felt hot in the canyon.....88* on my Garmin when I stopped in the shade. About a mile from the top we saw our first rattlesnake...just a little one. Suz asked if she could have some of my Tailwind....unfortuneatly I only brought water on the second leg.

Made Beeks.....just as we started to head down we ran into @bvader So we stopped for a chat. Suz mooched a Gu off him. Off we went and we hit Booby Trap again. Slower and more methodical this time....but still fun. Definitely warmer on the way down.

Lower Monroe out and back. Woke up with not enough sleep and upset stomach probably the late night pizza and beer.

Managed to get some food down, along with complementary pepto... Then headef out.

Not my best day, struggled right off the bat in the rock garden at the bottom. Took a lot of breaks on the way up. Made it to GMR without puking.

The way down was better, always is, but slower than usual. Just didn't have the confidence on the bike today.

Lots of loose gravelly spots sketched me out. Some of the ruts are getting deep. Caught my toe on a bush and almost got pulled off my bike.

Lots of people out enjoying this beautiful earth day 2018.

Went out today to ride one of the first trails I started riding over 26 yrs ago. I can't divulge the location but it was some outstanding trail:whistling:! Lots of work has been done on it as well; couple of feet of brush clearance, widening of some really dangerously sketchy parts:eek: and repairs of some washed out sections all for the first time in well, 26 yrs:thumbsup:! Our adventure pass $ finally put to work! Here's some pics;

Thanks @bvader for the GU! You saved the rest of my ride :-)

..in Whiting this evening. Eastside only. Mostly dirt roads/ some uphill single track. Generally in a forward motion. Yielding to descenders. A couple fun downhills.. Dreaded the right way. Sleepy Hollow the wrong way. Perfect temps, nice hikers, grateful riders. Home by dark.

Great ride up in the San Berdoos! A late start means it was 81F at the base of Morton Fire Rd when friend Jonathan and I started up. We spun up Hwy 38 for a bit, explored a potential alternative route to the Hwy (it didn't pan out), and then started the climb up old Mt. Home Creek Rd (Loch Leven). This is literally one of my favorite rides... I just love climbing this decommissioned road that was the original route up to Angelus Oaks.

Stopped for our well-earned lunch at The Oaks. The place has great food, I wish they would promote themselves as a MTB destination. There were at least 10 riders that stopped there during our lunch.

Finally hit some true singletrack, and it was great. A little bit washed out in places, but not bad at all!

We rode a little bit of the SART, and a little bit of the fire road (Thomas Hunting Grounds) trying to imagine what it would be like on a cross bike. In March. Just saying. But as noted in another thread, fire roads can be a lot of fun, especially in the mountains!

Typical fast-flight down the roads and back to the car. All and all, an uneventful ride!

Really? I've got fond memories of bouldering on Mt. Rubidoux. Driving through steller old neighborhoods. Two-stepping at a country western bar. Mission Inn for Christmas tour/lights..

Nothing wrong with the town, I like it a lot! It still gets an honorific! It's how you know your town has made it!
