I Rode My Bike Today...

Open access day at Bommer Canyon. Started from the cattle camp at Bommer. East Fork is steep!! Made our way over to Rabbit Run, only walked the one super tight rock, made everything else. Over to Cattle Crest for an up and back. Out Shady Oaks, back up to Ridge Route, sessioned the fun roller on Big Rock. Fun morning on the bike. Felt dialed today.

My wife and I were sitting in our car at Sandberg enjoying a post-ride beer when you two rolled through at your turn-around point. You weren't wasting any time! "Ready to roll? Yep, let's go." No messing around! I felt a bit lame thinking about all the miles you guys had ahead of you. Nice work! Sure was a perfect day out there today.
Wow! Talk about a small world. What made you think to come to imtbtrails? That’s a crazy cool coincidence!
Despite that unsolved X-File... welcome to imtbtrails!

Ha! I lurk around on here once in a great while. Decided to check in early yesterday before heading out to GE, just to see if there were any recent posts about the current conditions. Saw Tom's post about his planned ride and figured we might see him out there. Lo and behold, we saw you guys do a quick 180 at Sandberg. Figured it was as good a time as any to create an account so I could comment. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Met my buddy as planned and pedaled into Oaks at 9am, too late for my liking. Dang groups are out of control and I’ll continue to to mock them for standing around blocking trails. Also saw a new breed out there... #enduroebikers. Got passed by two dudes who were taking the easy Chutes down while we were climbing up who were wearing goggles with half lids and on e-bikes... descending the easy way.:confused::Roflmao Can’t really wrap my head around that one, the old term kook comes to mind.

Anyways, 13 miles and 1600’ up. Up Chutes, down goat, up B’s, down Yucca, up Goat, down Chutes and time for a burger and beer now.

4 ups, 4 downs in my 'hood, with my friend Kevin (Pivot Mach 5.5 guy).

Probably the most humans I've ever seen in Aliso on a Sunday morning, including one group of 100 or more - yes, you read that right - mono-ethnic group of hikers with a lot of little kids. Glad to see them out enjoying the day - but not in those numbers. They were on the main fireroad, going in the opposite direction, so no real impact on us.

The amount of cars with bike racks parked on Canyon Vistas and the surrounding side streets was an all-time high. Videos posted on YouTube with trail names is having a profound impact. Confirmed by some out-of-towners we talked to who were here to ride Telonics and A-t S------ based on videos they had seen. Once-hidden gems are becoming superhighways.

Considering how crowded the park was, we didn't experience much disruption on the downs.
There was occasional distraction on the climbs...:geek: :whistling:

Cool sunshine. 18.3 mi, 2800'

Bikes are fun, :) Even ones with a cracking/thunking sound coming from the left crank every rotation.

Another day I'm the saddle. Just a tour in our local hills. Devil's Canyon for the third time this week. Had some oncoming motos on the way down but nothing scary. Later on a couple of climbs I got some kudos for being a strong climber. I laughed at that one. Back to weekend warrior tomorrow. I finished this week with 260 miles and over 34k'. 95% on the MTB. Looking forward to my next vacation.

Today's ride:
42.6 miles and 5,203'

Just a pic of how I felt after today's ride.

I hit Monroe Truck Trail late in the morning. Legs are still a little sore from riding yesterday so I took some breathers on the way up and enjoyed the view. A handful of shuttlers, some hikers, and some mountain bike hotties to boot. Lots of lizards but no snakes. :(

The "tick trees" are in full bloom. Beautiful white flowers completely cover them up there.

Did a lil extra credit by climbing Upper MTT to the high point, where I took a pic of Mt. Baldy lurking in the background. Great riding temps!

Hit In-n-out in San Dimas on the way out. :inlove:

Hey corn
In all seriousness lets not use that term kook. It comes from the gi s in the korean war.. derogatory word that they used for koreans bc js koreans called korea han guk..

I hate for this forum to turn into a place where filipinos or koreans feel unwelcolmed...

El moro.. laguna and shady canyon..hit cattle crest for 2nd time open access...that trail could be a riot just bombing down...
Hit camrillo 2x..the tricky sections seem toned down...
Easy peasy down the techy right ..then on an easy section non tech fell over in front of all my friends... blood knee too..
Life us good!

No blood from my morning ride! Son did the full loop with the HS team, and blew it up! Tons of PRs today for him! I rode a bit of the climb with my youngest, who is going to her first race Saturday! She tired out about 2/3 of the way up, so we turned around. I took her home, then drove back up and did singletrack laps while waiting for everyone else to get back. I love going down Three Hawks and climbing up Thunderbird in Yucaipa. First one was awesome, and I did the climb in 20 min, so figured I had time for another. That went great, so hey, at this pace why not one more! So another up and down, got back at the perfect time to meet at the parking lot.
As you may have read elsewhere, let me confirm: Bikes are fun!

Really??? I always thought it was "Kook" with a "G" as the first letter instead of the "K". To me a kook has always been an American slang word for an idiot.

The online definitions state that this term is a surfer's slang word for an idiot or the like.

Tried San Clemente Singletracks today for my first (and maybe last?) time. It was fun, but not much to it - at least what we rode. Lots of swoopy smooth stuff. I can see that there are many hidden and not-so-hidden techy lines and jump lines that may warrant further exploration. Scott and I sessioned one section that had four features - a drop, step-up jump, a kicker jump and a rock drop. That was fun, but I am too chickenshit to hit kickers with the speed required. I need practice! I'm fine on the drops.

We took a little detour trail trying to find an innovative way back to the car. After a bit of a nerve-wracking long skinny bridge over a pond, we were nearly attacked by a mt. lion. He did pose for a selfie with us, before he attacked. I've never seen a mt. lion look so much like a cheetah before!

Weez and I taking more advantage of a CO non-winter. Shopping for goods along road 543 in Buffalo Creek...

Some unreal wind blasting through the area. As in, getting pushed off the trail into obstructions in some spots. We found a great break spot, Oprah Windfree...

Accidental and apropos...

Raspberry Ridge trail terminus. Observing fire activity below Turkey rocks...

New dirt on Gashouse trail...long climb, exposed and snow-free. Top of Blackjack looked snowy, so we were happy to drop RaspRidge for the first time, then the flowfest back to the TH. Such a great area, and a sublime day on the spokes with my #1 partner. Not understanding how it gets better :inlove::thumbsup:

I had planned to do the Counting Coup route this weekend with @mtnbikej, but he's fighting green monsters. So, I scrapped the plan to start from the tree farm with water stashed on Maple Springs, and decided to just roll solo from the house with 80 ounces in the pack and a bottle of Tailwind on the bike. I don't like carrying a pack... And especially one with 80 ounces. :gag:

At 7:00, I went down to the garage and played "eenie meenie miney mo". The Chameleon won and we set out a little after 7:00. By 8:00, I was sweating to death and pulling over on Santiago Canyon to ditch the leg warmers and wind breaker. Where are the 40 degree temps they predicted? :poop: O'Neill to Whiting for a quick drink at the fountain and then roadie style to Black Star. No PRs across Main Divide today... Motorway was a riot as always. The Forekaster on the front was awesome... At rolling fast through the scree, and stopping often for the hikers, dogs off leash, and riders tripoding through the chunk. Not exactly a clean run. Still fun.

Maple Springs ate my legs. It also had more traffic than the 405. Motorcycles, Jeeps, a guy in a BMW X5 who figured out he was over his head... And they all kicked up dust for me to choke on! :gag: And then the 40mph gusts kicked up some more. :p

About a mile from Four Corners, looking back at Motorway (lower switchbacks over the handlebars)
IMG_5506.jpg

At Four Corners it was howling! The temps were quite chilly, and water might have been an issue pushing over the peaks. So... Skip the peaks and bail out on Harding... Hit the bottom at mile 50 for my first (ish) water stop at the dog park. As I was standing there recovering for a bit, a car pulled up. "J ?". Um... No. Do you mean @mtnbikej? Apparently the IMTB jersey stands out! I believe he said he was @Grassblade23 , but I'm not 100% sure. The brain really wasn't engaged at this point... :whistling:

Up Modjeska Grade. Painfully. A short debate with myself at STT about heading to the Luge, but I knew I'd be walking Little Mustard. So, I roadied it to Live Oak, and did a run down the Vista DH. Struggled to make it up Twisted Tire, and home along the mesa...

Ugh, no.. not the same. Glad to see millennials aren’t the only ones who are on the prowl to be offended though.

Is this serious and accurate? I’ve been using the term kook to describe unwitting surfers since the late 80’s. Never once ever heard it could be offensive to Koreans.
