I Rode My Bike Today...

Mis you @Tom the Bomb ! Yeah man, vest is all I need for the climb. Threw on arm warmers and a jacket for the descent and a new set of gloves. Face was cold and fingers frozen lol. Still worth it, Baallz Baby!
That looks really good, @Cisco Roots  Thanks for peeks of the new dirt, not to mention the views.

You better make a parking spot for me...
Right on Mike! You know it!

Rode both Friday and Sat. I call them chasing the snow rides. You climb til the snow gets too much to ride any further haha. Simply unbelievable experience, views and perfect trails, til the snow part that is.

First 3 pics are at Olallie in North Bend WA. The rest are at Ranging River in Snoqualmie WA. Both these trail systems opened just this past summer and are masterfully built singletrack!

Whoa!

Rode Blackstar-Motorway with a couple of buddies this morning to prep for the Counting Coup. It was a little chilly at 6:45 for the start, but warmed up quickly. The only weather issue that we had was the wind. It was blowing all the way up BS and in parts of main divide. It was blowing so hard at the Doppler than we thought about turning around for a second, but decided to just keep pedaling. First time doing this loop for me and only my second time down Motorway. We were a few minutes over 3 hours from the BS gate to the bottom of motorway and that was after a fairly slow ride up BS with the wind and a couple of quick bio breaks at the Doppler and at Hagador, so I don’t see any issues making the first cut off. I enjoyed Motorway a lot more this time around than my first time down a year or so ago. I was about 6 minutes faster on the descent. Fun day on the bike. 26 miles, 4,217 feet.

Did it! 3 weekend rides and it was great. After my quick El moro loop my wife and i climbed Black Star Canyon to the doppler ball. Glad we packed an extra layer. BS is one of my favorite climbs, it gets prettier the further you go up and you can pick any pace you want. I was impressed with the number of hikers near/at the ball. Whether you come from Corona or OC, it is quite a distance to climb

Then today the first time back to the Oaks after the fire, just a quick 7 mile loop. Sad to see all the stuff burnt but they did a good job reopening it so quickly and fencing some stuff off. I am happy for those people in the houses overlooking the lower end of Oaks; it is quite amazing none of those got burnt. Good job to the firefighters

I rode my bike YESTERDAY & TODAY! Very uncommon for me.
Yesterday was my second best ride EVER! Last weeks was the best ever. Saturday was Aliso Woods for the second weekend in a row with my 10 yr old son. Just over 9 miles and nonstop smiles. A cruise for me but an adventure for the young gun. I’ll take em whenever I can get them. Afterwards was Dairy Queen for a much deserved Oreo cookie Blizzard.
Today was Santiago Oaks for a quick romp around. Took a few runs down hawk and cactus. Somehow managed a PR down hawk and I wasn’t really pushing it. On my way up Oak stopped at the first bench to let some horses coming down go by, & I got to meet @horsebikerider with her curious Cowgirl. Had a quick little chat and I was on my way to hit Yucca ridge. Usually this trail is wide open from top to bottom. Not today, 3 groups of hikers coming up as I was going down. No worries, I saw them way ahead of me. Passed them at a snails pace. It’s a beautiful day in the trails. Finished up with 12 miles and 2300’. Can’t wait to get back in the trail.

It's Sunday, so that means HS practice at Crafton! Woke up with a headache and tight shoulders/neck from yard work yesterday. Bummer. This was my first ride longer than an hour on the 29'ameleon, and I kinda' miss the fatties. Much rougher and lower traction, although yeah, easier to climb. When I wear through these tires I'll try some 2.4" meats and see if that splits the difference! Picked up a few PRs on the climb, even with not feeling so hot though! Three out of four Chameleons were present, missing @riiz !!! Weather was absolutely perfect, 52F at the start, 67F at the finish. Loved it! Still not feeling much better after lunch and a nap. :(

It was great to meet you @Redman! I will keep an eye out for you whenever I am out there with horses or on my bike. :)

I'm trying to find the words to explain how much I love mt. biking. Especially, fast, moderately challenging downhill segments. I did a local ride - which surprises no one, and seems to disappoint many. All four DHs were sublime. Three of the runs had not another soul on the trail, despite the park being very crowded. On one run, there were many hikers, but they all heard my awareness bell in advance, and I greeted them calmly and confidently, despite my pace. Nobody appeared to be startled or felt the need to scramble aside.

I had contacted a number of my usual riding friends the night before, but most left me hanging. Gary @sir crashalot responded, but he needs to ride early on Sundays to get to work by 11:00. My other friends were talking about an 8:00 start - but they went radio silent at 8:30 pm and evidently slept in.

Unexpectedly, I received a text from Gary at 8:50 that he was at the top of 5-Oaks, and if I could get there by 9:15, he would wait. I did, and he did. It was fun to ride with Gary for one descent and the climb up Cholla. We parted company as Gary returned to his car at Alta Laguna and I added in three more descents and climbs.

I know everybody loves different elements of riding - and that is cool. Today, I just loved all four descents. So friggin' fun! The climbs were fine too. I felt stronger as the morning progressed, and probably had another 10-20' of climbing left in my legs at the end. :D

Bikes are FUN! :)

Side note: I am guessing over 200 riders rode an off-menu trail that starts at the top of 5-Oaks today. Evidently that trail is the new "must-ride" around here. It's getting massive amounts of traffic. Gary saw a group of 25. I saw a group of ten at the top, and at least three groups of five exiting at the bottom the three times I rode by it. I have yet to try the run, and I am sure I would like it, but the bottom roll-down has claimed many victims and, technically, it's an illegal trail.

After going out for the mini death march yesterday, I chose to sleep in.

@horsebikerider and I were gonna take the tandem out, but after her pony ride and nap, the day kinda got away from us. So we headed out to the Oaks, on our own bikes.

Felt good for the first 3/4ths of the ride.

Up Oak, down Yucca, up BumbleGoat, up Goat down Chutes, up Chutes, down Cactus, up BumbleBee, down Grasshopper, up Oak. At this point Suz texted me saying she was leaving the barn and heading up Oak. I had enough time, so I dropped back down Grasshopper and chased her back up Oak. About 1/2 way up the 2nd B....legs went away. Good thing we ran into our neighbor, so I got a break. Down Peralta and out.

17.5 miles / 2800' Finishes off a 20k' ascent week. Been a while.

I rode e-Liso as well today, a bit later. Beautiful day

I rode 5-Oaks as well ... Decent.

PRd Stairs Steps on the flats...
Still took the waterfall on the right but at a higher speed and angled left and just banged down that side.

Kinda muffed the jump at the top of Meadows this time, but it was pretty clear rest of the way the 2 hikers heard my bell and I was leaning into those turns hard and they cheered me on.
..PRd Meadows too.

Good weekend PRd Luge too...

The Bronson flies been tuning the susp too, all on flats.. did finally get my calf minor with the spikes.

On thing on flats... It's really easy to session tech session because so easy on/off.

Bikes are Freakin Fun!

I've been trying to communicate more with hikers too

Had planned to hit up lower Monroe today.. and I did! No idea what time I was going to start, but eventually got to the trailhead at 2:30. Rode up, felt good. Pretty dry and loose in places, the ruts are getting deeper, found myself in them once or twice. The optimum lines are also getting encroached by branches.. I gave blood a few times!

Saturday was just the sixth ride I've been to do since Thanksgiving. Figured I'd be hurt'n and I was. Made it up Harding to 4 Corners, where there was some convergence with @mtnbikej @Faust29 and @UPSed . Went up to Santiago Peak. At that point the easy thing way would have been to turn around and go back. Because I had encountered 2 dozen motor vehicles on Main Divide between 4 C's and SP , and didn't want to deal with that again, I decided to keep going forward. That was a good choice. Only had to deal with 3 more vehicles. In the midst of the OC " Endless Summer" I appreciated the rich greenery while heading to and down Lower Holy Jim. There was water flowing in several of the stream crossings. Passed 2 dozen hikers while descending LHJ. With a ringing bell, all those encounters where smooth and friendly. That was great. The people who did the recent trail work on Lower Holy Jim did an amazing and fantastic job!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Much thanks for that. Saw a Doe and Buck on Trabuco Creek Road. On Live Oak back to Harding it was drizzling. 36 miles and 6350 ft. elev. gain.

I knew you’d end up knocking out a big one!

Ahhhh....The Pinoy Army invasion.

Had to scrap my plans for a bigger ride to get back and meet Geek Squad for a tv repair. So where else to ride than Oaks/Weir!

15mi 1900’ ups.. Cardio is just fine, legs need some strengthening though for Counting Coup.

Got a random text last night from my friend’s dad inviting me to a race at Camp Pendleton next month which I’m thinking I will take him up on. Apparently he is on some board of directors there now and will cover my entrance fee.

That would be the Hellfire Fat Tire, which has fallen on the same day as the Redlands ride three years in a row! If the vibe is anything like the Pendleton Century, it will be an awesome event.

My buddy Tony texted me last night telling me he was doing a ride with Gina (She's the owner of All Pro Bicycle Shop here in Simi Valley) and that they would be doing a slow-paced MTB ride as a couple of their roadie friends are just getting into mountain biking. My thinking was cool. This would be a nice recovery ride. I started from home and ended up meeting them about five miles into the ride. The two newbies being strong roadies had no problems with the climbs but descending was another story. I guess we all started somewhere. Gina was great at giving them tips and whatnot to help their confidence in the dirt. For some reason it didn't seem like we went that far as it seemed like we were chit-chatting the whole ride. Remember this was supposed to be a recovery ride. Well if 33.4 miles and 4796' is a recovery ride then @Faust29 and @mtnbikej have officially ruined me. I did it on three scoops of Tailwind and feel great. Now where am I going to ride tomorrow?

Yes, my job here is done. Another has been converted. Now if I could just get you off that bike with all shifty and squishy bits. :sneaky:
