Oooof. My (massive ramp from nothing due to injury) training is starting to catch up to me now. I joined The Path on their Sunday shop ride, which was in my backyard; Aliso. I had to walk up parts of Mathis because my legs were just shot (and it was hot, that wasn't helping, so I gave up easier).

I don't go down 5 Oaks unless I go with people, and I roll everything when I do. I need more confidence in getting air. Mind you, it's probably MUCH more dangerous to roll those drops than to actually put some air under me... but talk about needing confidence. (Rolling that first nasty drop on 5 oaks was stupid, I knew it was stupid when I applied all of the brakes, and I knew it was stupid when my ass was 2 feet behind my seat -- but I did stay clipped in and rubber side down somehow)

It's nice to get out and ride with people occasionally to mix it up from the solo rides, even if my legs are shot today and as such didn't do the last Cholla/Lynx lap the other guys wanted to do.

I rode my longboard today... First time out in the water in nearly a year. I haven't been able to tear myself away from the trails to go get in the water. I am so glad I did. It's good for the soul and the body to mix it up a bit, especially when the water is over 70* and a pod of dolphins joins in the fun. And then what did we do? Well, when I got home, my daughter announces "it's a perfect day for ice skating," so that's what we did. I must say, I don't think I have ever surfed (in trunks, no less) and ice skated in the same day before.

Perhaps an after-work ride tomorrow. Great temps for July with highs in the low 80s - completely tolerable for riding!

Did the Chantry Zion Loop today, clockwise. The temps were perfect, just under the clouds and noone on the trail (weekends are nuts here w hikers). Due to the rains I expected many washed out sections and yes there were! Had to climb over a few trees and dismount regular riding sections, especially on the Zion side.

The ride started off great as I was able to clear some of the rock sections that have given me trouble in the past [emoji3]. The ride up to the top of Zion is steep, tight switchbacks, very technical, wore me out! The fun usually starts from the Zion summit, mostly a descent. Felt good, then bam, went otb haha! Bruised my knee and nearly slid down the cliff but grabbed a rock just in time [emoji47] . Silly crash, I guess I was due. Ride came out to 9.2 and 2080 gain. It was awesome riding there with hardly anyone on the trail and I've been craving some singletrack, got me some [emoji106]!

Yo Cisco If you ride here again let me know would like to join you. Dig that trail.

I rode my bike yesterday, you guessed it Exploration with Mark and Tom S. Climbed the the first loop, shuttled the second, we hauled the mail baby. One of the only trails you will sweat going downhill. Had a blast chasing Mark. He has that Nomad dialed. Temps at 4P.M. In Rancho 94 deg. Temps at Exploration At 5 P.M. 72 deg. 68 deg at the finish of the ride! Eat your heart out! :)

I got on my bike today.

Did a solo recovery spin through Whiting:

Then did a spin through El Moro/LCWP with my wife:

Oh Deer...

I rode my bike today - 11:30 - 1:30 in Aliso. It's great riding when there aren't weekend crowds. I should look into this retirement thing that people keep talking about.

Along Wood Canyon fireroad I saw a doe (a deer, a female deer) - munching on some grass. That's not unusual. When I was bombing down Rock-It (suspension testing, don'tcha know) I came to the fastest part of the trail and a buck (a deer, a male deer) - was on the trail. He decided to lead out and starting hoofing it mach schnell right down the rock garden with me on his white-tail. After about 50 yards of this, he wisely ducked off into the sage. Kind of a cool little experience - and again, way better than the weekend crowds.

So how awesome is it that I can ride mid-day on July 27 with the sun beating down and the temps were not above 75*? There was a nice breeze most of the time to dry the sweat. The breeze must have been a tailwind up Mathis because I found myself riding one gear higher than normal. If only I had STRAVA so I could confirm that I was faster. Then maybe someone could give me a medal!

Bike was working well, legs felt good, decent energy, great temps, light crowds and chasing wild ungulates - awesome (but short) day on the trails!

Yeah, but did you stop and have a drink with jam and bread? Amazing how high and far those dear deers can hop when pacing you down the trail (but then again, where there are deer there could very well be cougars).... wish I could have joined, but little issues to take care of with shipping a broke shock and getting scratched rx lenses replaced...

I had the day off and had reason to be in OC. I got the chance to sneak in a little Oaks ride this morning before the heat set in. Although not a large park, it offers some great variety and mellow climbs. The waterfall on Chutes always sticks out in my mind along with maybe cactus (bermy descent). The dirt was outstanding for this time of year. Most importantly, I got to ride/catch up with a friend I haven't seen in months if not years!

What is up with this weather? I was planning an early Whiting-STT-Luge-Whiting run to beat the heat. Well life happened and I had to go tend to our remodel project this morning and I didn't start pedaling until 10:15. It's July 28th. It was very sunny. but it was only 75* when I started and 74* when I finished at 12:15! That's understandable in Aliso, El Moro or LCWP near the coast, but Lake Forest? Don't get me wrong, I was still sweating like a fiend, but there was a light breeze and the humidity was fairly low, so it was actually pretty comfortable.

No wildlife encounters today, just a good time on my bike, basically alone (I was passed by two individual skinny guys in lycra, without hydration packs of course, on carbon 29ers).

This was my 13th ride in July, which is a lot for me. Clearly my vertical feet climbed and mileage is getting close to DOUBLE what J rides! Wait, what's that you say? His stats are in ONE DAY? :o Oh...ummmm, well, I don't think I could have done 4 LAPS of today's route. (shrugging emoticon)

You're way ahead of me! All of my miles are on the elliptical while watching Netflix reruns. Oh, the shame.

Another 37+ road/riverbed miles with a whopping 350 or so feet of vertical gain for the day. I actually enjoy my bike commute :)

I don' think I've ever said it, but props to you for bike commuting!

I went out today for my normal Tuesday ride at the Oaks. Quickly though I knew it wasn't going to be the normal ride.

After Saturday's big ride, and the 2 rides on Sunday....I rode with a group of friends last night(Monday is normally a non-ride/recovery day). I got on my bike and right away my legs were heavy. After the spill I took on the ride yesterday, I was having brake issues, I thought I could just deal with it. However it just got worse, my legs just got heavier, and I had a headache I couldn't shake.

So I called it a night and just cruised home.

Fairly routine Whiting-Luge ride with Black Licorice this morning. Only thing out of the ordinary was we saw no one on the downhill back through Whiting. Good fun chasing and being chased on a clear trail. I come to realize my backup bike is a little twitchy (comparatively) which makes me nervous, and Hans Damf front doesn't give me as much confidence as DHF.
And mountainbiking is a whole lot of fun no matter :D

Uh oh... How bad was the spill?

I have not ridden my bike since my ride w UPSed and company.

I've been studying to pass my RE State Exam. I postponed it by a week bc I am not confident. I'm getting grumpy each day that passes that I don't get to ride my bike.

I will ride Friday come hell or in Mikie's case, high water. :D

Damn Herz you better keep that to yourself you may screw it up. 95 deg up here in Rancho Cuc. no ride for me. Hotter than Hades! Enjoy it while you can1

Best of luck on the exam, Rox. You'll do fine! Then it's back to riding and the type of freedom a chain can bring!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! It's quantifiable... Varaxis could probably write an equation about days off the bike, and mood levels. I stare at my bike every time I go in the garage, and keep checking the tires, drive train, etc. I think my wife is getting jealous.

Hahaha......

Don't let it come to that: Preferring your bike over your spouse, you'll end up like me. ;)

I'm always grumpy when I don't get to ride my bike on the weekend as that's the only time I have to ride unless I am on vacation. Thankfully Jennifer fully understands. I'm also thankful to have a somewhat physical job that keeps me in good enough shape to knock out a decent ride with minimal pain.

23 years today... And she hasn't taken me out in my sleep yet! There's still time, I guess... ;)
