I Rode My Bike Today...

Down in San Diego Tuesday and did a quick ride near Sweetwater reservoir. Trail right at the campground. FR and ST trails. Small parts of a larger network that I'll checkout another time. Steep climb to the "tiki hut" then back down. Great temps but had some Santa ana headwinds on the climb.
5.5 mi\ 630ft.

I had time for a quick workout/scenic spin around OC just before 4 yesterday and I underestimated the time it would take me to finish the ride. Well, I sort of underestimated and also took too many calls so it was dark when I got back and I didn't have lights. Beautiful scenery, but only a little fun single track Down Lizards with a lot of fire roads. Ended up with just over 14 miles and 2000ft.

Quality quickie with this morning with Steve. Up LSM, across Echo Mtn Trail, down Sunset Ridge, with a grand finale on Horse Trail. Tacos afterward, of course.

Sunset Ridge has had a lot of work done to it recently. It's now "fun again". The switchbacks have been reworked, the rollers have been reworked, a few new jumps added, drops are a lil bigger but with better landings, some berms added in the turns. Everything adds up to a faster pass through. Go gitcha some!

7.61 miles
1640' gain

Garmin ripped me off this morning. I found that it wasn't registering elevation gain or distance for the first quarter mile of so. Only the timer was running.

Love that route thanks to riding it with you guys. I need to get my fork dialed and get back out there.

Bommer Canyon exploration day this morning.

Cattle Crest, Rabbit Run, East Fork and Ridgeline for the fun downhills. Not one other hiker or biker on any of the downhills, which was just glorious. I got a cuppie on East Fork, likely due to not having to dodge hikers for once.

I almost rode over to Laguna for a Lizards run, but I was out of water and I have a group ride scheduled for tomorrow, so decided to save some energy.

Weather was fantastic. Fun day on the bike!

IRC group ride in Blind, Fremont and Weir canyons. Nothing too exciting ... but it is always nice to ride in usually closed off areas, including the part of Weir they don't let us ride. Plus, new dirt is always good. I would hate to devolve into one of those people who ride the same exact trails week after week.

Yes - that's yet another reason why you are a better mt biker and human than I. :(
Do you go to the same gym every time you workout, or do you mix it up and go to different ones?

On the topic of repetitive rides, I pass by a guy who is loading his green-ish bike into the back of his Explorer every morning in the same little pull-off spot across from the Willow parking lot in Laguna Canyon. He's old like me, so it's a pedal bike - no motor. He is there every morning before dawn, and completes his ride at about 7 am. EVERY STINKIN' DAY!

Even I couldn't do that. But clearly, this is his version of a gym routine. Without the posing, flexing and ogling that goes with it. Or the membership fees.

And yes, I did one of my two usual rides today. But this time, I did something I've never done before. I did the full ride without stopping, other than the stoplights on Portola at the beginning. Yay me!

15.78 mi 2339' And it still took me 2:15 with no stops. Oh well. Bikes are fun. I'll do what i can - and you do you!

I am "stuck in rut riding" these days too... But better than not riding at all!!

Gonna try to get some variety over the holidays.
Me too! Ski, snowboard, bike, water polo watching...
Could I interest you in an alternative to driving your motor vehicles to go places?

Edit: …as I sit in my little truck in space #2 waiting for Chick-fil-A

went something like this; "head toward bass lake, then turn right at Mrs Rileys chicken coup, the one with the green roof not the one with the blue roof. after that you pass two turn outs on the right, then you'll see a road with a large oak and mailbox on the left. turn there, then just a bit down the road you see another turn out with a sycamore tree, that's the place and I should be there by the time you arrive."

And if you still see cows, keep going.

Appreciated, thanks!
Okay, got pics to help you locate Horsey trail today. At the bottom of Mt. Lowe instead of going right look to the left of the trail sign and follow @Fueledbyex8 ‘s direction.

Feel free to reach out if you want some company when you do the loop.

Albert and I roads up to Inspiration point from JPL today. On the way down Albert lost his rear brake so, he cruised down nice and mellow. I was on the gravel bike so, no Sunset trail for us today.
Taking the road back towards Altadena I was kinda bombing behind an SUV, they pulled over and let me pass. At the bottom I was waiting for Albert and they pulled up, rolled down the window and it was two cute hiker looking girls. Said something like “Have a great ride!”
Post ride brews and ‘za at Mt. Lowe brewing.

That ride was a winner!

I don't know that area well/at all, so appreciate the details of it and the maps to help my brain figure it out!

Met friend Allan at Oakmont for a 2:00 ride. That was after getting up at 5:15 to send The Baby off on her first VB tournament as a coach (her 15U team swept 3-0), shopping with spouse at TJ's, flushing my bike's brake fluid, plus some other stuff I'm sure. Needless to say, I was not in peak form. Luckily we both agreed a non-climbing ride would be just fine. So banged around Oakmont, found a fence blocking an old trail, found an other old trail that worked pretty well, enjoyed Teddies Trail immensely, and just spun the wheels. A nice time out there!
