I Rode My Bike Today...

Bummer Herz :( Heal quickly.

I got out for a quick ride this afternoon during my hall pass time. Drove down to Weedpatch and spent an hour down there. It lived up to it's name; it was way overgrown. My legs are very itchy now, even after a shower and a good scrub. It's sort of fun riding all of that singletrack, although I still need someone to show me a really good way to maximize the trails down there w/o looping on itself endlessly. I still can't find a good path down there.

Sucks! Heal up quick!

Just had the torque wrench out this am...

You what was loose? The expander that goes in the carbon steerer of my fork. It's where the top cap for the stem screws in. If that thing comes loose you get some strange creaks.

Your mechanic's initials.
No. He didn't touch it. I swapped forks last night. I torqued it to spec, but it's been my experience that stem bolts need a second tightening during the first ride after a fork re-install. Perhaps due to seating the bearings on the race, or squishing out some grease, or something. Regardless, I forgot to do so.

Thanks Ross! My bike is at the doc, I'll be sure to have him check my new fork, has four rides on it.

Ah, it makes it easier to not have someone else to blame...confound it all! If I understand, you essentially turned and your front wheel didn't follow. Agree, second tightenings are key.

Big suckage you gotta enter the system, but it is what it is. Stay tough mentally and your bones will follow. Power to your healing sesh!

Laguna Canyon Observatory/Noble. Need I say more??:

@herzalot: Damn dude!! And you were just on the cusp of sustaining a climb over 3k. Now ya gotta start over. DO-OVER!!

I rode my bike today. Rock-It and half of 5-Oaks. Then, I fell down. Forensics indicate stem bolts were loose, bar rotated, wheel didn't. Or vice versa. Either way, shattered some bones in my hand.:poop:  Sitting at Kaiser waiting for ortho consult.:(
Bummer hands are sorta important in this sport. Major healing vibes to you.

I just swapped stems on the Ripley today and haven't even ridden it yet but now I'm going to go double check everything again.

Sorry, Herz... I hope you heal fast, so you don't lose too much climbing stamina. :whistling:
