I DIDN'T Ride My Bike Today, Cuzz....

I didn't ride my Bike today because... California smoke made it's way over to northern Utah.

Yesterday or today (and for a few days more at least), because on Sunday I did a stupid thing. Knowing full well that I am a ground based object, I launched myself a full 2' in the air  and came off the left pedal and sliced my shin open pretty deeply on the pedal pins. Worst one of these incidents ever for me. Running 8 butterly sutures until it knits. :bang:

My like was more of an “oh Sh!t… that sucks” than a like.

And I don’t need pictures like that guy above requested… :gag:

Yikes! No like. Speedy healing to you.

I did not ride my bike today bc I rode my bike yesterday!!!! Doctor said no bikes! but I think he meant no bike riding like before. Yesterday I did about 3 miles on the flatter portions of the floop... not bad not bad... remember that feeling when you first dropped chutes at oaks? kinda the same feeling ... in a way...
I still can't front brake or dropper but I can hold on!!!

Actually I did ride my bike today, but yesterday I didn't. Except I did, but it was a different bike. The kid has not wanted to ride her bike at all lately, and I got tired of fighting it, so we hadn't ridden together in this calendar year. She actually requested a ride yesterday, so I jumped at the chance. Did the beginning of the Marvin Braud trail at Will Rogers down to Venice and back. 13 miles total. Perfect cool, overcast, breezy weather. A good pace, and lots of good conversation. Just a really stellar ride, that she really loved as well.

Kudos to the efforts being made to clean Venice up. There were as few homeless people and as little trash as I've ever seen down there. Weirdness abounded, in it's own beautiful way, but it felt like a safe and fun place to ride a bike with an 11 year old. Even the kid remarked, "everybody is really vibing today". It was a really pleasant and welcome surprise.

Because I went "surfing" in the rain with @littlewave I put surfing in quotes because I never actually caught a wave. I did crash upon takeoff twice, so there's that. Brett got 3 or 4. It was fairly large out there, but not very powerful. The high tide made the waves back off rather than break - except on the inside. Even longboarders were struggling to catch 'em even thought the waves were head high. The water was delightfully warm though - I would say 70° plus.

Brett is a highly competent surfer. I hope he will go with me again sometime in conditions in which I might be more successful.

Since I had Friday off, Thursday I was planning-out 20-30mi in the mountains up here...then I saw that Region 5 just closed all the national forests. It's hard to agree when I have a low opinion of R5, but it's better than having another wildfire here "managed" by them.

Okay, maybe I'll do a metric century instead to Lancaster, have lunch and resupply at the office, it'll be rad. It would have been. Woke up early yesterday to either a fast-moving stomach bug or a reaction to something I ate and rode the porcelain bike all morning. Followed that by feeling like a spent dishrag the rest of the day. Got some good bike wrenching in anyway and then started feeling better by beer o'clock.

Brunch with goats! One of those 100 hidden gem things to do in L.A. We visited the goats, took pics and then had a nice lunch. The lunch tables were also in the dirt. The location was right next to Cheeseboro trail head off the 101. The girls dug it. We had an enjoyable day.
