I Didn't Post Anything Today...

I don't know the answer to that, but wanted to give you kudos for the insight to leave the mistress at home this time... ;)

Haha. Pretty safe bet the wife wouldn't have been happy having to sleep outside the tent had he brought the bike.

I used to hunt at Palomar many years ago, and a lot of it is private land. Between the two that may have something to do with the restrictions.

I did post something today, but it wasn't very important. And I just bumped this thread about nothing. Let's hear from our new members!

If I post in the I didn't post anything thread, then I have posted, which in turn means I did post something today, ergo, the conundrum has been fulfilled.

Went camping overnight with the family for the first time ever (wife and I haven't camped in 20+ years) last night. Stayed at the Dripping Springs campground in the Palomar Mountain state park area.
Does anyone know why Palomar Mountain State Park completely disallows MTB'ing on those trails in there? I had seen before we left that we couldn't MTB there (which is part of why I left my bike at home as well), and when we got there, they were pretty militant in dissuading MTB use (lots and LOTS of signage).

That is right in my backyard and yes it's stupid they don't allow mountain biking there. Those trails could make great connectors to Palomar mountain, high point truck trail, crosley truck trail, Cutca trail... that whole trail network is forgotten and overgrown. Very few hikers go out there. At one time many years ago it looks like it was a great trail network, but now it is all over grown with downed trees and signs are burned down or knocked over.

Yes, this for sure. I don't know how the hell someone can claim a chunk of land smack dab in the middle of a forest access road. Crosley truck trail is right on the back side of dripping srpings and someone has a few acres of land fenced off and locked gates blocking access on the road. (yes I have jumped the gates) I really don't get it and it pisses me off. There is also indian land and some wilderness at the top corner of these trails.

IMO the basic answer is bad land management. or more like no management. These trails should all be multi use access. There is a large force of Mountain bikers from IE that would come out to do volunteer trail work if there was access. The Palomar-highpoint-cutca-dripping srpings area could be pretty awesome. but instead it is all just forgotten and a waste.

Home sick all week, but the phone still rings so doing some work. Miserable as it is.

On the plus side, I rode new dirt Sunday and Monday. But the chill from the ride probably sent the virus into overdrive. :{)

Who "bro fists" with their left hand?!?!

Are you speaking of the brofisting that is appropriate for this context? The picture is of a right hand... the only way that would be a left hand is if you picture that as bumping fists with yourself in the mirror. Is there something wrong with using your left hand? Do you think you must use the hand that best fits in the outline? Questions that should be asked before jumping to conclusions...

I will leave it to the reader to come to their own conclusions.

Mikie will hit 1000 today. He can use this thread to do it, if he has nothing else to say. Welcome to the club, OG!

Agua Tibia Wilderness starts just south of the Dripping Springs campground, so any trails from there likely go into Wilderness. Higher up, I think the area that is in the State Park has a lot of State Wilderness, but it is hard to find maps of that.

And yeah, there is the private property and Reservation lands too. Some friends and I tried to ride up Oak Grove Truck Trail one time and found the same thing, the numbered forest service road was blocked and gated with no trespassing signs, and an angry landowner who came out and chewed us out. Talking to a forest service employee later it sounds like the landowner sued to prevent public access and now only forest service vehicles on official business can pass through his land.

It is sad there are so many private inholdings like this. In San diego there are lots of them within Cleveland NF which cut off access to what would make some incredible bikepacking routes. South of I-8 there are plenty of forest roads, but zero of them are open to the public.
