Flu shot????

For those of you who got sick after having a flu shot, you either had an adverse reaction or you were in the process of catching the flu already. It takes several days for our bodies to build up some degree of immunity after the flu shot is given. It's not instantaneous and it's not guaranteed to stop the flu. You may still become infected/ill but you will generally have lighter symptoms.

Simply put, you cannot contract the flu from the vaccine. It is not a live/active virus.

After a live vaccine you are carrying the virus and can absolutely infect others.

Most articles posing as science seek to back up their claims with experts, and maybe a little data... I'm glad to see an author quote herself and her boss as a source. It's refreshing! It really streamlines that whole silly "evidence" thing. o_O

Man... If I could have gotten away with that on my 12th grade English paper... I wouldn't have needed to bribe the teacher with Labatts. :cautious:

Try harder. Do more research before spreading this nonsense.
I don't think this is constructive.

I don't think that @mountaingirl sara is implying the article is posing as science, but more of an alternative medicine perspective.
I have noticed that the science world tends to look down on holistic alternatives, where I find that a holistic approach treats the problem and science tends to focus on the symptoms.

I support holistic and science... I think they can be used together.. holistic to promote wellness, create buffers , ease symptoms.. but I trust science will give me the cure.

Steve Jobs, a man of science one could say.. abandoned scientific practices and embraced holistic and alternative practices on the way to his death bed....

My father, who I mentioned above, was supposed to live only 5 or 6 months when I rushed home from China in early 2015. Thanks to science he was able to fight on for 5 more years until he passed in early 2020..

I can appreciate all you have said. We don't have a rewind button so there is no telling how the results would have panned out taking an alternate course. I focus on Holistic first then resort to science if I have to. I have no desire to have lab built chemicals in my system if I'm already healthy. I remember your story about your Father and still very sorry for your loss my friend...

@Derkderkall I agree, God has provided us w/ everything we need to cure our ailments. Now, if its a broken bone or a punctured lung, etc. then yes we head to the doctor.

@Mikie you are spot on with your statement.

Agree 100% with your approach. We do the same...holistic first and foremost. God has given us everything we need to mend our ailments on our own. With that and a clean healthy diet, it's really hard for the immune system to be compromised. We moved away from Western Medicine and the Western Diet about ten years ago. Everyone in my family has been less sick. And, if we get a cold it lasts less than a week. No more meds for my wife and youngest was a difficult transition. But, once it was made their overall quality of life has increased drastically. Mood swings gone. Meltdowns minimized. Insomnia gone. I could go on. Be well.

Look Hooligans, I’m not trying to cause a ruckus here, but if my few posts cause just one person to look more closely at vaccines, etc and if there’s a possibility that said person might find alternatives to big pharma whenever possible....then my job here is done.
I do hate confrontation, my motives and intentions are pure.
If you don’t like it..don’t read it:thumbsup:

Carry on ;)

Yes! There is nothing to argue about here. Everyone has different immune systems and everyone's body reacts differently to medication. Furthermore, at our age we generally are already set in our ways and beliefs. Love you all!

As a (former) teacher, there is no statement I'd disagree with more. We should be reading the things we disagree with. Why... It's the reason I keep my LA Times subscription. :p

I did read the article you posted, as well as all 19 cited sources at the end. Needless to say, my conclusions differ from Leslie Manookian after reading the same studies. But I'm still glad I read through them.

Fresh baked Joshua tree shoots, boiled creosote leaves, broiled desert tortoise, and grilled Gila Monster fillets?

Although we both may believe in your Mom's Chile Relleno, my point is I do not believe in Flu Shots. But you probably already guessed that... :p
The good news for the rest of us is that the flu vaccine doesn’t depend on your faith.

the flu was really mild in the Southern Hemisphere, all that social distancing doing double duty.
Wow, this thread has taken off like the wildfires up in the San Gabes.
not a whole lot of riding going on...just a bunch of old dudes griping about their health.
ANYBODY HERE STILL RIDE BIKES?
This is what happens when they burn down the forests...

We are so firggin' polarized it's insane. People I know, love and trust(?) spouting conspiracy theories left and right. The truth is always in the middle.

Big pharma certainly has profit motives that eat away at anything remotely resembling ethical decision making, the Hippocratic oath or the best interest of people, countered by conspiracy theorists ignoring science because of some puffed up extreme examples and intentionally twisted "facts" using social media and "woke" spokespeople to spread fear.
@Redman hit it pretty well in my opinion, echoed by others - wellness first, and science as needed. I think that's one reason we all ride our stupid bikes - overall wellness - mental and physical. And @Cornholio - I don't see any need for nastiness. That's a part of the problem. We don't know how to civilly challenge each other, much less listen and consider someone else's point of view.

Balance people, balance.

(Coming from a man who has lost his several times. Owwwie! )

Mic drop.

Got my flu shot; may help since I've never been sick enough neither to function pretty effectively nor be bed ridden in the however many years I've been getting them. Also, grew up during the time when Polio was prevalent; one of my happiest days was getting that shot / sugar cube, whatever it was.

I remember that sugar cube!
Why can't all shots be like that!?!?!

What was the one that left the funky scar on our shoulder?
