Except the fact your not eating food, so there is less :poop: to worry about.

"Piley" that's perfect! :thumbsup:

Oh Man... Rox got me talking about this. Doesn't this violate some guy code?

I actually thought about the post-ride "transition" from Tailwind back to regular food, but it really hasn't been an issue. I've been using approximately 150 calories per bottle, and I try to go through a bottle every 1 to 1.5 hours. The interesting part is post-ride. When I was using regular food, bars, gels, etc... I would run in the house after the ride and try to eat everything in the refrigerator. On the Tailwind, I don't have that starving feeling when I finish, and I can come in the house, grab a shower and then figure out what to eat post-ride. If I'm lucky, it's sushi with the wife... :-)

That's good to know Faust, thank you. However, I'm a creature of habit, I grab a beer first thing after a ride....:thumbsup:

Got my tailwind yesterday, with the personalized note and everithing, but....my bag had 2 tinny holes/punctures... not a big deal, even tough some powder was loose on the usps box, I just put some clear tape and problem fixed, but wanted to let them know how my package arrived, and suggested more filling or something... well they got back to me, today morning and Rocky told me to keep the tailwind, just send back the bag, because they want to see the punctures, and he send a return label, and he will send me a new bag of a flavor of my choice for FREE ! well they got me as a loyal customer 4 life !
I didn't expect that kindness from they part, but that tells you they do care about Us !

Friday I picked up a 25-serving jar of 1st Endurance EFS. Tried it out today. I took a fairly substantial ride of 41 miles and 3,908 feet of gain. Started out with my usual bowl of cereal, and regular old coffee. I also took along a baggie with 4 extra scoops of EFS (if a cop saw me reloading, he'd probably have thought I had cocaine in the baggie). For the ride, I went through 3 full, though small (I think 18 oz) bottles. There were no hunger pangs, and I was plenty hydrated - that's more than I ever drank on any ride of that distance. Best of all, when I got back to the truck I was not hungry at all. My legs were still feeling good too.

When I got home I had to immediately turn around and head to HB to pick up the teenager. It was about 2 pm when I finally got Subway for all three of us. And I didn't feel at all like I had to wolf it down and go find more.

The only thing that stopped me today was the heat. Otherwise I'd probably still be out there. I've read about the Tailwind everyone is using and I may try that next. The advantage to the 1st Endurance is there's a LBS that stocks it so I can grab it on very short notice. Oh, and it doesn't affect the :poop::)

I like this stuff!!!:geek::):thumbsup:

I'm somewhat baffled by how little I hear riders talk about the value of pre-hydrating. I'm talking up to three days in advance.

Pre-hydrating, calorie loading and getting a lot of sleep well before an outing does more for my endurance than anything I eat or drink during the outing. I've run marathons, biked all day for weeks at a time, climbed grade 6 cliffs in weeks or continuous pushes up to 40-plus hours, much of it solo. I know physical and mental bonking pretty well. You can be ferocious for one solid day if you hydrate up, eat, rest and have a modicum of physical condition to begin with. After ~30 hours I drop off some, depending on the light/dark, but with no horrible recovery/aftermath.

The more arrows in the quiver the better, but it seems people put a lot of reliance on tech food solutions and less on the essentials. Supercharging for a couple of days before you fire is a great platform for personal bests. Add tech foods...I'll put money on your PR.

Pre-hydrating doesn't get talked about alot, because we all figured everybody does it. Same with calorie loading.

I am guilty of not getting enough sleep before some of my bigger rides...and I have felt it.

Thanks for pointing it out and bringing it up. Every piece of advice helps.

I never thought a lot about the awareness of hydration until I read a bunch of rider commentary about hydration and heat. It was obvious that the concept of drinking lots of water for days in advance was lost on some.

Any back pain with these legendary 8+ hr rides? Are those rides flat or graded? I've read that pedaling seated exclusively can lead to lower back pain, so the suggestion was to stand up and pedal occasionally.
