Endurance Nutrition

There are lots of supplements making lots of claims. Are there any scientific studies to demonstrate safety and effectiveness? Anyone here had good results?

I am not too good at it, I eat too much meat and not enough plants. But I honestly believe that if you do just this one thing, you don't need any supplements or other anything else to improve performance.

Your last sentence describes me to a T. I don’t supplement anything & get most of my nutrients from whole plant foods. Been doing it for over 2 years now, same with my partner. Never been faster or stronger in my life & finally have my cholesterol & blood pressure under control without Rx. Wish I did it sooner.

I had the Watermelon Salt yesterday with 24oz of water after an intense 2:35 ride, and it was super tasty and went down easy. I don’t know if it helped physically but I think it did so there you go.

The only time I've ever used them was 90 miles into a hard century and it was in the 90s. They worked.

That being said, I very rarely cramp and it's usually several hours after the ride. Even after hard effort. Could it be the Tailwind? :whistling:

Can't be... Those guys that run 100 miles across the desert don't know :poop:. :Roflmao:laugh:

I cramped the other night when we were out to dinner a few hours after the race. I was fine, and then all of a sudden, it felt like an icepick in my right leg. Thankfully it didn't last long and I didn't scream like a little girl in the packed restaurant. Tailwind...

I'm going to make another SHOUT-OUT to LMNT. I had two packets, each mixed with about 30 oz. of water after 27 miles and 2,500' of climbing, and my recovery for the second half of my ride on Sunday was noteworthy. I felt as good on the Morton Peak climb as I did in mile 2 of the ride. Never mind the amount of climbing I did...because the climbing part was for recovery when trying to keep up with Burt and Matt on the DH, which was far more tiring. Anyway, I am sold on LMNT and recommend it for those who ride 35 MTB miles in 7 weeks and then take on a 50-miler the following Sunday.

Everyone has been raving about LMNT, so I picked up an 8-pack sampler. That lets me try all of their core flavors. I like how it does not have any sugar, which is why I stopped using Liquid I.V. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Just finished my liquid iv and was thinking of get some more, so good timing. Just ordered the sample pack, so thanks for the heads up! interested to see if I like it.

I rarely cramp but use pickle juice when I do. It always works for me. I have a couple friends that swear by mustard packets and one guy buys some concoction he found OTC at Pep Boys.....yes, Pep Boys, a few years ago.
I had massive cramps years ago while doing a century that I wasn't prepared for. About 85 miles in, one of the SAG stops had ham and mustard sandwiches. 15 minutes after eating that sandwich, I felt like I could do another century. Mustard for the win!

The flavors were hit or miss for me.
I liked the four fruit ones about equally. The chocolate was not very good. The unflavored was just nasty, but that one is probably intended to be mixed with something other than just water.

The two spicy ones were good but I would not want to drink them after a ride because spicy does not = refreshing for me. I am glad I tried them all though so I know which ones not to order as they are not exactly cheap.
