Electric mountain bikes

Perhaps the best thing about E-Bikes is their potential to completely obliterate STRAVA records rendering the competitive performance data absolutely meaningless, leaving the STRAVA user with the best parts of the app and all but eliminating the worst part!!!! Meaningless KOMs, but still tracking PRs, elevation, mileage and routes.

Yay?! (Shrugging shoulder emoticon).

You tryin' to say it's not already meaningless?? I don't need no steenking KOMs. But seriously, I use it to track what I do, and I have noticed that there's a particular individual who will always go back and get the top slot. I don't know or care if he's doing it legitimately, but it speaks volumes about his ego.

Or maybe I have no ego because it would be pointless on a bike. No way to back it up! :P

There's already an app that does that, EndoMondo. Been using it for years. $2.99 for the pro, and no annual.

I still think they're rad. If I could afford one I'd have one. Honestly though, I think I'm like the 1% that could
A. Truly benefit from one due to disabilities - granting me access to trails I've only ever dreamed about
B. That would use it "responsibly", as in, truly simply to mask my disabilities, certainly not to blow by people or roost people or treat it like a dirtbike on mtb trails

Flame away... LOL. Someday, when I hit the lotto I'm gonna get me one of them fancy e Nomads. Bad ass!!!

I did a lot of thinking before responding to above... there is no glib way around your thoughts and concerns.

Mikie, I thought I replied to this, but apparently not...

I can tell you this, while I'm not 100% with you on your thinking, the ability to enter in to this conversation and have it without it turning into a total train wreck is why this site is great!

I guess there's the self-less argument (yours) and the self-ish one (mine). Very Wrath of Khan moment here!

And like Wheezy says, I know I would be fine with one someday. But yeah, what about the other millions of users that eff things up... :-/

I'm warming up to purpose-built pedal-assist e-mtbs. I just don't like the current implementations so far. That new Spec FSR 27.5+ ebike is the best looking one of the bunch so far, mainly since it seems that they addressed the motor assist lag time and the software to stop assisting when up to speed. Need to have some e-bike races to start pushing the tech more. I still don't want to see any tires narrower than 2.8 wide on them, nor throttles, nor conversions/home-brew builds--these hacks are the ones that are the most likely to hack up the trails, and since they're being bunched up with other bicycles by the governing organizations...

If I were that worried about Strava, I would just edit my data file before submitting it. A heckuva lot faster and easier than buying an eBike.

OK, I'm only posting this video because the girl in it is really cracking me up. it's really funny how they keep flashing back to the image of this girl walking around...

but here, this doesn't look like a good thing for the future of mountain biking IMO:

And I was cracking when saw the price of the bronson +the battery........
comes total $15,400. +shipping +taxes..
:(

I'd rather own a $5,000 bike... and go on a $10,000 uber bike vacation :)

Seriously. I don't see the point of these eBikes. What's next? I can't run because my knees are shot, so I am going to pay for some dude to carry me in a backpack on the Boston Marathon? And then I'm going to pretend that I did something physical?

Maximum rider capacity 500 pounds?

The most common thing I hear among e-bikers is "same amount of effort, twice the scenery"... or something along those lines. I think I'll start pushing the new "all the excursion, without the exertion" over at endless-sphere.com.

Plus if you call in the next 15 minutes, we'll throw in a pair of 90 dB speakers for that maximum BRAAAAP effect!!

I'd get one in a minute... IF I could afford it. HOWEVER, I would never use for trail use. I would only use it to commute to and from work. It could be the ultimate street weapon for urban assaults on they way to work.

BUMP!
Can I count on all of you to please follow through with CarlS's request above and fill out the very important IMBA survey common to his link? Please and Thank You!

Easy to do and "DONE", for me...

There are now MX eMotorcycles.
Open the door for one, the other will follow. Same thing, different size.
Where is the line drawn?
At the entrance to STT a county sign says " NO Motorized Vehicles allowed". IMO that pretty much covers it, but the Motos still make it up there on occasion.

Once e-cars hit the stage it was all over.

Yes, I'm aware that electric cars existed a hundred years ago. That was the proverbial camel's nose under the tent flap. Or is that camel toe right out in the open?
