Dare I post ... eBikes

I like my bike. Ibis Ripmo. All the bikes I had, I liked. When and if I ever get an ebike, I'm sure I'll like that one too. I gotta be honest, if I get an ebike, I will ride it at the oaks. They are illegal there. However, when I was at the top of bummble bee, hawk and grasshopper intersection with the OC rangers having a booth, passing out water, bells, etc. having a nice chat, a group of ebikers rolled up from the Bs. The rangers did not say one word and even let them have water etc. Que??? I asked the nice OC ranger lady, I thought ebikes are illegal here? She said yes they are but they no longer ticket as long as they are riding reasonably...
who knows if this is policy or not. I just know they ticket regular bikers on illegal trails at Laguna/El Moro/Aliso...
I'm not gonna say nothing unless I'm willing to abide by all laws too...

Sounds like lazy rangers.

I saw a couple e-bikes on Monroe yesterday. No issues, they were mixed in with groups of regular riders. However I did have a problem with several trail users.

Shuttlers in full gear, for one, who forced me off the trail as I was in the middle of one of the steeper climbs. They had no bells, no indication of slowing or even trying to pull over and at least make room.

then a large group of riders chatting in the lookout at top of punkout. No big deal but they were spread all over the trail. I slowed, but almost had to roll up onto the embankment as I picked my way through, but no one even began to make a move to actually clear the path…..

Bottom line, we need to be trail Stewards and model the behavior we want to see..100% of the time… hopefully those we meet will catch on….

Let me start from the end.
I bought an eBike last week (Fuel EXe 9.8).

Without going into too many details, I just can't ride a MTB at this point.
I waited for over a year for my heart to heal to a point that I can climb real mountain again. I finally broke down and decided that I miss it too much.
I'm hopeful that more riding will accelerate my recovery, and one day I'll be fit enough to ride my old bikes again. That day my never happened.

I'm not 100% sure why I'm sharing my story.
I'm not looking for approval, understanding, or companion.
I'm not proud of myself, nor disappointed. I didn't change (I was always an A-hole) dramatically.
I'm at a point in my life that I don't want to seat around and wait for things to get better. Instead, I'm focused on achieving my goals and chasing my dreams.
Selfish? Probably.

So, if you see me on a trail on my eBike, and me being out there is offensive to you. I'm sorry.

Did you get the GX AXS model? That is a great bike. We had a problem with the one we got originally dealing with the derailleur not hooked up to the smart box.

I'm sure it's most likely the directions given to them by the management folks. I'm glad I worked in an era where very little of that occurred but now it's rampant and one of the main reasons for state today's society. Not surprising, seen all over CA and cities such as Seattle, Portland, Austin, Chicago (it's going to go next level worse here after Jan 1) and the like for some odd reason.

HBkites! Downhills are calling you!!!
I’m a trail rider at heart.
I raced plenty, but never excelled. I love riding fast down hill under biked on flowing trails.
Not brave enough” to let it go” completely on the black diamonds.
I used to find satisfaction completing the hard climbs. Now a days I just can’t climb affectionately.

im officially removing the VQ on an SS off my bucket list.

Outside of Commifornia, bikes aren't a problem and quite the opposite as communities are finding that building more and more bike trails has led to nothing but $$$ for the general fund coffers.... I think Fruita led the way in that regard but Bend, Bellingham, Bentonville (all of Arkansas actually), most of SW Utah, Prescott and many others have capitalized on MTB visitors. Plenty other communities are jumping on as well...Ely & Caliente (NV), Richfield & Ogden (UT) come to mind. I even rode some crazy fun stuff in Northern Louisiana and Illinois on my last road trip but never did see a MTB shop in those areas.

They just added a new bike park with 20 miles of trails on the west side of the lake. The county describes it as a "recreation destination" and another reason for people to want to move into the area. eBikes are legal on the trails here, but with one-way direction of travel it's amazing how how infrequently you see them. There were a ton of new ebikers in 2020... but now not so much. Even a guy that I used to ride with pretty regularly (when he bought a new e-bike) has stopped riding. At first the summer was "too hot". Now I'm not sure what the problem is. Truth is - if you weren't already on the trails a lot with a standard mountain bike, I just don't see you creating a new passion out of nowhere with an e-bike.

I briefed through all of this as I had some time to. Quite a while ago I had a few too many beers and completely lost my Sh!t and set a new world record for FBombs per sentence for a healthy size paragraph. I never recovered from that day in my loss for self respect and the loss of perceived leadership to my community. As well, lost good friends. I had a momentary lapse of reason as Pink would say.
I have continued to persist in requesting the No Politics and fear of eBike discussions as they have never gone well. Although I think this thread has actually to most degrees gone relatively well.
I’m pretty sure I am at a point with Politics I’m going to stop saying, “Stop or I’ll yell stop again.” As much as I would love to discuss politics I see how it goes on other Social Medias and it does not go well no matter what.

So I’m going to be very polite, keep my cool, clearly state how much I love each and everyone of you, however I’m going to share here and now that folks will begin to disappear from membership on imtbtrails regardless of our long term relationships. You are all my dear friends but apparently those that do not abide by a friends request are not my friend if they can not be mature enough to respect my wishes as a friend and as the Site owner who pays the bills.

So this is that 3rd and final. Please choose wisely if this site has any value to you.

Hey, @Mikie! Welcome back! ;)

In regards to eBikes…:inlove:
I’m now 64 years old, been riding for over 30 years, have had both my knees completely replaced and still can climb like a Motherf@cker. I don’t perceive a pedal assist in my future for quite a while. Respect those that compensate with eBikes due to health and age issues, can care less to ride with folks that have them just cuzz.
I like the experience of riding with mountain bikers, sharing about a tough day in the saddle, and how we have grown in strength and skills. I like it when I can beat younger riders in friendly fun.

I have become immune to eBikers on my trail. They are another trail user group in my eyes. Just another group now to put up with. I no longer give them Sh!t, as it’s pointless. No sense in ruining my day on the trail. Bike on mountain bikers!
