Camp Nelson Anyone? Officially : August 8th, 9th, & 10th

I thought HB mentioned a 7am departure? I'm working till weds. and plan to shop/pack on weds.

I have no prob with getting together, I just aint gonna drive a 2+ hour drive to do so ;) .
I don't see where we will have the time now...

We need to decide:
Departure Time on Thursday
Meet pick up Points (I would assume mine will be at Flying J or Tejon Ranch)
Food (which I am still inclined to just bring my own in a cooler, and go out a couple of times)
Dinero to pay Scottay for the Cabin
Dinero for Splitting Gas for Maddog (Truck Gas, not Maddog Methane!)
Shuttle Times and Days (Most important and the one I'm still the most lost on)

That's why I brought up the idea 2 pages and 1 week ago :? ! I thought we could all meet at Dougies after you (Mikie) got off work. You could just meet me at my house so we could go to Dougie's together (I'll drive) and Scottay could just cruise on up to Dougie's. We could even meet at some fancy watering hole there in Acton! I ain't working yet so if we can do this Monday or Tuesday I'll be there! If not, you and Dougie can come up with something when you guys ride today. I'm EZ but we gotta get some shuttle plans with Shidan in case he gets booked up over the weekend.

Let me know what you guys come up with. As much as I'd like this to be an MTB exclusive trip I will have to coordinate rides and shuttling around my family duties.

I got you covered. Your all set up for the camping in the meadow. It's $20 per person per night and this includes bathrooms and showers...

Just got this from Shidan. We have played phone tag all day.
But I emailed him and this is what i received...

Hi Mikie,

I got your message and left a couple voicemails for you. Email is probably best to get in touch with me because I'm traveling for work next week and will be on the east coast until late Thursday night. Margaret will be at her office next to the bike shop through the week.

Camping is $20 per person per night and we just built a bathroom with a shower for campers. How many people are showing up on Thursday?

We're going to reserve the shuttle van for your group of 10 riders on Saturday. Doing 6 rides on Nelson is ambitious. With your group size, we do a la cart for $15 per rider per shuttle, 2 for $25, or a 5 for $55 deal (must have 5 riders minimum). The package pricing must be used by the same rider in the same day. I suggest going for the 5 for $55 if you were interested in doing six.

Sounds good Mikie! Thanks for calling Shidan! I'd be in for 2 shuttles at $25. The 2 biggest shuttle rides are Jordan Peak/Camp Nelson and Bear Creek which I think both require some climbing. I suggest doing those 2 first and finish with 3 Camp Nelsons if time allows.

Hey, I just noticed! I've gotta supply my own METHANE!!!!! Heading to the pantry now to get all the cans of chili I can carry :shock: !!!
 
I like Scottays idea for Thursday afternoon. Freeman Creek and Camp Nelson. Saturday sounds like the shuttle day? I could get away in the morning for a big epic. Not sure I can get away with 5 shuttle runs especially if we start off with Bear Creek. What about Friday?
 
Yeah, Scottay has some good ideas! Maybe Friday we could do an out and back on the Summit Trail from Quaking Aspen south to Windy Gap and back. It's about 10 miles one way with lots of steep climbing both directions. Or we could do the wise, pragmatic thing and self-shuttle somewhere :lol: !!

BTW, when are you arriving at QA?

I did not ask about a guide but I have kept asking for a GPX file (the cheapest guide) we could upload to a Garmin. jfsh is out of town, I say that cuz he was going to be our guide. Still working this. We are going to have an amazing time!!!!

Sorry about that guys! I've been asleep, if you all want to meet at my house today or Tuesday I can meet you there. My favorite tea house Don Cucos has closed, so my house whould be it.
 
It's a long shot for me, but I am going to try to come up for Friday and Saturday. I'm not sure where to stay. Any suggestions as to where the most people might be with space available? I'm open for getting a room/cabin/or camping.

I hope to make it and meet many of you. I already know Rodney, Scott and a couple of others.

Well, if you guys don't think it's necessary I guess I can let y'all off the hook for a face to face! The most important thing, Shidan's shuttle, is already taken care of. The rest we can sort out via other means or wait 'til we're up there to confer with the others. If you do want to meet I'll be there Tuesday 'cuz I was really looking forward to the crumpets! BTW, what is a crumpet?

Hey Tony! That would be Awesome....
There is camping available at Shidan's (Shidan owns the shuttle so you will be right there) meadow for $20 bucks per night per person to include bathrooms and shower. Dave Williams and Tracy are staying there as well.

Cathy did bring up a good point about food. Do we want to take turns cooking dinner for the Cabin folks? I can bring a meal to cook for all for a night for example.... just sayin' :?

No cooking skillz here. There's a restaurant isn't there? And a market maybe? Chip in for burgers to bbq or sumthin?

Michele mentioned the same thing this morning, can everyones wife cook at least decent? If we feed Scottay than that should replace having to pay for the cabin? Scottay, can you cook?

I have an email to him asking this...waiting for the reply.
 
I wrote to Margaret (renter of cabins) to ask if any cabins were available, as my family may come. Haven't heard back.

I'm working on it. My kid REALLY wants to go to Mammoth, but this sounds much better to me!
