Aliso-Wood and Laguna Coast Wilderness Parks

In order of difficulty of descent easiest to most challenging (in my opinion): I don't count Cholla or Mathis because neither should be a descent.

Meadows - flowy goodness, berms but zero chunk
Rock-It - Low gradient all the way. A little bit of everything - turny goodness, straight ahead chunk, techy little climb, a couple of tiny jumps
Lynx - A little steeper and faster than Rock-It with some little ledges that can mess you up. Pretty straight though.
5-Oaks - Steeper with a few ledges, some ruts and braking bumps up top. Challenging roots, rocks, ruts and stairs near the end
Mentally Sensitive - Steep, awkward, rutted, loose
Stairs - Bigger chunk, but pretty straight. Steeper than Rock-It
Car Wreck (with the drop) - Steep chunk in spots with big holes. A 4ft. must huck that has a tame ride around. Off camber chunk at the bottom leading into the actual wrecked car.

I think that's it for legal trails.

Fair enough. I concede to the expert. The only trail in Aliso I have crashed on is Lynx ... five fukin' times. That bitch has my number. I am obviously not riding fast enough.

I wasn't arguing... just adding my perspective.

My worst crash to date was on Lynx. I don't remember it, but my face does. "Funny" thing is, it was at the little step-up at the beginning of the trail.

Different strokes!

I've only been down 5 Oaks once, and it was on the sketchy Highball, but I would rank it harder than Mentally Sensitive... That is my favorite out there of all of them. I'll never understand going down Meadows with its cheater lines and braking bumps instead of Mentally Sensitive. Meadows is a decent climb, though...

Don’t take the cheater lines. We built over 20 great berms. And what braking bumps?

I sprained my wrist on Car Wreck when I first got into mountain biking four years ago. I've only ridden it maybe twice ever. The Luge? Only a couple of times as well. For myself I've stayed away because of the crowds. On one trail there were 20 hikers balanced on the trail edge as we went by. I remember brushing past one hiker. I turned my body to apologize and in doing so swacked another hiker with my back pack. Apologized again and decided weekends are to busy for that place.

Fortunately, I have never experienced anything like that on the trails themselves. But I've seen plenty of large groups (hikers and bikes) queued up, ready to go. I've seen the Luge Flag hill look like an ant colony. (And not to confuse those from out of area - The Luge is not in Aliso. It's in another congested part of OC 20 miles away).

My worst crowd experience that interrupted my riding the longest was a conga line of 20 riders climbing Meadows on a weekend morning. Think about how long it takes to yield the right of way for 20 riders cranking at 2-4 mph. It was about a 15-20 minute wait. Please don't ride in large groups on weekend mornings in congested urban multi-use parks with multi-directional trails. Thank you!

We really need one way trails Nobody should be climbing Rock-It or Meadows IMO. Bommer recently made some trails one way only. So much better for everyone.

Crowds, there are no crowds in Aliso....... This was at the top of Stairsteps. Luckily I got to the top before they all started hiking down. @Dirtrider.... wasn’t as lucky.

Mmmmmmeadows on a late afternoon.....

I like chunk ... But I also like flow.

Like most trails you get out what you put in... Stairs, Rock it Lynx Meadow's, MS

Meadow's .... Put in the work to know the turns and berms and get out... leaning the bike over, checking that tread, and coming out of the turn faster than you went in .... :)

And like any trail... at speed you may have to pay to play

Rock-It - It's a good climb, but I can see your point. Mathis and Cholla are close enough climbing alternatives. Meadow - well, it's the only way up on that end of the park, so I can't ever see it being designated as a DH only trail. Most hikers use the shortcuts while climbing, which is good and bad. Good because they are out of the way, bad because it creates the stupid straight line that lots of bikes take down. And bad because of the environmental impact of the Dollar Sign-ing

I cannot even give a site like for that BS.
So it's not OK to take girl scout troops, boy scout troops or class field trips for hikes? I would be angry if that were a group of EndurBros, but I think it's cool that organized hikes are a part of a youth's upbringing. Annoying if I am out riding, but I was that kid - well, not a girl scout, but church group hikes. Rocky Mt. National Park. Also very crowded on weekends.

Wait a minute, Mr... I once said that I saw 30 guys lined up waiting their turn at the top of the Luge and you told me I was crazy. But you can see an ant colony of people?!? :p :Roflmao

Hey @rossage - wanna take a road trip? :Roflmao

When I went Saturday afternoon had the trails I wanted nearly to myself... So I'll take a pic of that next time...

Afternoons at Aliso and LCWP can be awesome low traffic nice trails and a beautiful ocean breeze...

I've ridden a few sunset rides with that sunset and breeze... Mix in a few goats, coyotes and deer... Lovely.

They are my home parks so I am a bit biased but

All I need Some tasty trails, an cool ocean breeze

No. But feel free to be the trail ambassador once you can ride again. I am just messing around. Get well soon.

Was that passive aggressive? ;) Them's just jokes.

Speaking of goats.....i took the singletrack from the top of Meadows over Mentally Sensitive...there was no warning that the trail was blocked off by the electric fence for the goats. I had to blaze my own trail to get back over to the paved path.
Yeah I have yet to figure out how those goats move that electric fence :)
