What's up with shoes for flats?

Love my SPD Shimano shoes (the older M200’s) so if I were getting a flat pedal shoes I’d look at their GR900 model, they have other flat pedal options as well. I like the easy lacing system on my SPD shoes so I imagine I’d like the feel of the similar flat version.

Not sure about other models, but the 5-10 Impact lows have changed within the past year or so. They're not as roomy or comfy, even after a long break-in period. Specifically, something in the toe box area is different - I have to lace my newer ones up very tight to prevent my feet from sliding forward and jamming my toes. Never had to do that with my older pairs.

TFPU, Pat. I’ve heard the fit is now different and the durability has taken a hit. Too bad, but I’ve seen this happen with other popular gear. By the time the good version starts wearing out, it’s too late.

I’m going to use approach shoes more. I really can’t tell the difference when I’m riding, and they get lots of use off the bike. I’ll be picking up my third pair of Scarpa Crux soon. My current pair did the GDMBR, AZT and too many other day rides and overnights to count. And they still have life. After using and observing FT for decades, I can say with certainty that nothing they ever produced was durable enough to match that. Impact Low was a contender.

I really like the Five Ten Aescent approach shoes for riding. They have the great sticky sole, but a lighter and flexible mid-sole and upper. Freeriders don't fit me at all... literally cause foot pain within a few minutes. The Aescents are great for me thought!

The ones I'm wearing now are very much on their last legs, but I'm getting every penny out of them (they were free)!

Great price on those, and a solid reco.

Crux went down under 100$, so I think it’s time...
