Unoffically Official 2017 VQ and CC Thread

Well.... The percentage of rain continues to increase for Silverado on Saturday. This could be interesting.

I'll need to figure out if it would be worth bringing a change of gloves and a thicker jacket as you get to the peak. Coming down from the peak with wet gloves in cold weather is no bueno!

My wife is meeting me at the bottom of Motorway to take my light and maybe the arm warmers if it's warmed up enough... I may have her bring some extra clothes if it looks like I'll need it. I hate being cold...

Edit: New Shimano brake pads to replace the cheap ones that made me deaf on Motorway, and new 2.25 Racing Ralphs front and back with fresh sealant...

Every forecast I'm looking at seems to be different, but I haven't seen any that show the rain continuing past early am. I'm going with positive thoughts that it'll be just enough to knock the dust down, but not enough to activate the Blackstar hell-mud.

All I can do is cross my fingers. There's no way I'd be able to make the replacement date if it gets postponed.

Here is a bit of an update:

"The latest weather update is a 60 percent chance of 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch of rain falling between the hours of 2:30 to 7:30 Saturday morning followed by clearing with patching clouds. This is a weak front is not expected to bring much rain. I am still hopeful that it will weaken further. I spoke with the director of County Flood Control and they expect 1/20 of an inch of rain at the Santiago Peak from this storm.

I met with the District Ranger Darrell Vance today and due to the front being weak they will not decide to close the gates on Maples Springs and the Main Divide to the public until Friday (We have keys for the gate key to Maples Springs. They are working on Trabuco Creek Road Thursday and Friday and he told me they are going to keep it closed for our event and open it on Sunday. We have the combo to the gate to allow access to our support crew at aid station #2. We will warn riders of the cluster *uck of traffic in front of the closed gate and the drivers of the closed gate and ongoing bike race.

....confirmed regarding the Main Divide between Long Canyon and the Trabuco Trail that it had work done so that one nasty bumpy section should be passible. "

hey Runs w/ .. if you never rode near WHT.. one of my favorite sections is the downhill from WHT and Trabuco creek intersection to the cabins at the end of the fire road section of Trabuco.. its only 10 -15 minutes ride... but a great out and back if you are near the area for cheering! chunky smooth beautiful single track, crosses the creek..

For those of you who have picked up your packet; post your # if you want to get heckled or cheered during the race.
Here's mine:

Oh, wow......Those are completely different than they have been in the past.

It's cool they put your name on them. Makes it hard to copy it and try to use it to poach next year.(yes...we had this happen in the past).
Yeah, Replaytiming is doing them this year. Big improvements over previous ones. Its got the chips for timing too, which will make poaching even harder.

Years ago, we just used the same number plates every year....nothing would change. They did not include the year or anything. We had a bib # get recorded 2x as it went through the gate at Beeks'. They tracked them down and found that one of the plates was scanned and printed. From then on, we started putting the year of the event on the number plates.
