The Automobile Thread

I hate hippies. Or, in this case. Corporate “burners.”

Shout out for a product that does what is advertised: Chemical Guys Spot Remover! I street parked last week and the neighbor's sprinklers anointed the car with water deposits all over the passenger side. I detailed the car and then used the above-linked stuff and spots were pretty much gone! A second round of detailing to get the gunk off (it's kind of thick/sticky) and then some spray wax to finish off. Tried it and liked it!

I need that for my wife's car but I don't trust myself to do my own detailing.

I have that, works great. Also used it for the glass shower door to eliminate the hard water spots.

I have lots of the chemical guys goodies and they all work as well or better than expected.
But I really like the hydro slick wax, ceramic coating and easy as wax to apply.

Recently bought a Tesla Y and the 1up rack arrived yesterday! Bought it entirely on my cell and picked it up in less than 10 minutes. Nice change from traditional dealerships. Solar at
home so I'm covered with charging. Digging it so far.

The wife is test driving one this week. You still liking it?
Did you get the $1k hitch from them or have one installed?

Yes--I love the Tesla Y. It makes my truck feel slow and outdated. At the current price it's a really great deal.
I got the hitch from Tesla and it works perfectly with the 1up rack.
If you purchase one, just take your time and do a thorough inspection when you pick it up. Mine had a scratched and dented wheel, and I had them replace it before taking delivery.

I guess I don't understand a grand for a hitch.
Granted, I had mine done at hitch crafters back in like 2012, but even that one I think they welded it up from scratch or pre-cut plates and only charged me like $260.

If you want it integrated around the bumper and want it to carry at a proper height, then sometimes ya gotta pay. If you want it to hang below everything on a modern car, you can buy a standard hitch. Maybe.

Yes--I had read some threads about difficulties with after-market hitches on the Tesla and I just wanted 'easy.' I had a credit, so the hitch ended up being $500 instead of 1k.

I paid about $350 for a U-Haul installed 1 1/8" hitch on my Audi Allroad, and about $3k for my 2" receiver on my Q8. :gag:

All VW Atlases come with an integrated 2" receiver, by the way.

And Tesla's "sport utility" Model X can't carry stuff on the roof, so it's useless as a sports-utility vehicle. Where will you put your SUP boards?

I think this car would be for the wife, if she likes it. I'm probably going to use it for work meetings/lunches and because I want a new long board (Almond, Joy) that won't fit in my car.
Our garage is already equipped with the charger from when we got the house. We just need a small car that will fit in the tiny-ass garage.

I think VW Atlas' (Is that how you pluralize words that end in an "s"?) are more expensive than the Model Y. Plus, I only trust Japan to design gas cars that won't cost me thousands of dollars a year in repairs.

At least you can put a roof rack on a Y!

Atlas' is possessive, thanks to Mr. Apostrophe. Plural would have to be Atlases.

Knock on wood, my Audis are waaaaaaay more reliable than my Atlas was.

Wagons are better vehicles for 99% of the population.
Absolutely, love a good wagon! I still miss my last one in the UK. (It wasn't this one but it was a 159)

In Melbourne Australia an Urus or Tesla would be a Toorak tractor (Toorak is an affluent neighbourhood where these vehicles are very common) they'd be lucky to be driven off a curb let alone see any sort of dirt.
We used to call them girlie trucks, they aren't SUVs.

@Y-not whats that you posted up? Real or a rendering? Does it come with a proper (manual) gearbox and right (rear) wheel drive?
