The Automobile Thread

Yep, the new 3/4 series got beat with the ugly stick. That pic above is by far the best I've seen it look. It's totally Mr. Ed, and when you add the CA front plate it's Mr. Ed with braces. Not even 15 minutes ago I was talking with a customer about the 4 series being objectively unattractive.
Are you talking the 3/4 series BMer or the 3/4 series Audi?

I don't think any of the Audi front ends look great this year. They look more like my 2010 with a very tall grille instead of the wider, narrower grille of my 2018.

Borderline ugly, IMO. Not as bad as my 2010, but close. I just don't like the silver vertical strips.

I was referring to the BMW, but I'm not a huge fan of the Q7 grill above, or the similar styling on its smaller sibling, the Q3. I do think the current design language works well on most everything else in the line.

Just curious - what service do the electrons need after nine months?
They still have the same 1 year or 10K mile service interval that the other cars have, but the first one is primarily inspections. For sure there is less overall though, and the maintenance plans are priced less than the gas cars.

That said, when I purchased my e-tron in 2019 (from a different dealership) the finance girl showed me prepaid maintenance plans that included oil changes. To be fair, this is the warning that that same car gave me when I was approaching my first service interval.

Tire rotation and windshield washer fluid should be all that’s needed in that time. I’ve spent like $7 on the fluid in 8 months.

Although the electric car specific Pirellis tend to pick up a lot of debris, had to get 2 screws removed and plugged so far but luckily no charge. $400+ per tire if/when it’s time to replace. :gag:

Pretty sure they need to change the blinker fluid.

Jason put up a video demonstrating how fast a Lucid and Tesla are, using an E39 as a reference.

I didn't care how fast the Tesla was, I couldn't stop admiring the E39!

I'm not an EV fan as I travel long distances frequently and don't want to deal with charging along the way. My buddy was just out here visiting and he has two Tesla's. He drove us out to dinner one night and I'll juts say, that's the only vehicle I've ever been in that literally put me in the back of my seat.... instantly!!

I had an E39 M5 for a short time. I prefer smaller cars...

100% agreed, but compared to current 3er, the E39 is the same size (same width, only 3" longer)! Would need to get a 2er to get something smaller now!

A 128i E81 is actually the car I would like to trade into at some point. MT mandatory, and sport/winter packages preferred. Tempted by a convertible as I used to have an E30 cab and would like to revisit my youth. Good luck, as there just aren't a lot of them out there.

So an E39 M5... those are becoming quite the sought after vehicle! Transaction prices are getting up there for sure, especially for low mileage ones! I would be more than happy with the 530i, but wow, M5... yeah.

at the time, I'd floated the idea of replacing the E36 with the M5. The M5 was newer, less than half the miles on the odometer, perfect body/interior... But I knew beforehand I was living a lie; it was just an excuse to get another car. Thought that worse case it'd be an "investment". Felt bad parking it outside unused and having to constantly move it out of the way to drive the E36. There's no way I'd park the E36 outside instead eventho it's worth much less. Weird, I know...

Today I ordered a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xE. ETA from Fiat is 6-9 months. It feels a lot like last year’s wait for my Revel to arrive.

I’ve read that one of the vehicles that people cross-shop with the Wrangler is a ski boat. I totally get that—this is the most expensive toy I’ve ever bought, by far. I can’t imagine cross shopping it with a RAV4.

Good luck with your order. Ram/Jeep/Stelantis has had quite a few shut downs recently because of parts shortages. I know one of the bigger Jeep assembly lines went down for 2 weeks.

Once you get your VIN you can check order status via chat with https://fcacommunity.force.com/Jeep/s/article/How-do-I-contact-Jeep2

Ive been able to do this with my Ram along the way since my salesman is not always very forthcoming with information

If I had a place to park it…

Congratulations. 9 weeks is encouraging. I’m hoping that the Conestoga wagon I ordered doesn’t feature too many techy bits from Shanghai…[/QUOTE]
