The Automobile Thread

They were in the sunglass compartment by the sunroof controls. I never leave anything of value in view, and very seldom in the car more than a few minutes.
Unless they're really thirsty and want a half bottle of water. :eek:that's in plain sight.

After special ordering and waiting a couple weeks for the lock cylinder ( of course it was backordered) I finally called to see if they had it in. Yep they did. Picked it up and installed it.
Like @SnakeCharmer said, it was super easy to install, may be 15 minutes? My neighbor asked what I was doing and told him the story, and how they just took the sunglasses and I thought that was odd they would check there. His thought was that people often keep an extra key in that spot and that's what they were looking for to steal the car. Now this makes more sense.

Anyway, except now having a separate key ( why they don't supply the same type IDK) now the car is good to go. Thanks Snake!!

And yeah, Some people suck.....

My baby bro finally got his new old stock Jeep up and running from my parents’ house.
It’s an ‘89 with 500 miles on it that he bought for $1500 from the Crean estate when he got back from his 4th tour of Afghanistan.
Looks so damn good!

Yours is the latest generation with the push button start? If so, it can't be started/stolen without the fob, or the fob code(s). If one was to leave the extra fob hidden inside the car, I don't believe it could be locked from the outside. So, the "second key" idea does not work in this scenario. And yes, the second key thing sucks. I am told that the lock mechanism can be changed by a locksmith to fit the original key that is inside the fob.

Exactly, the key is useless without the fob. Anyway, who knows what goes through a thiefs mind.
Maybe people put keys, wallets, stash up there...God knows.
Hondas are one of the most stolen cars/suvs so there must be a way to snatch them without a key. And I still think it's extremely cheap of honda not to give the correct key type as they used my VIN to order it. Trust me, I'll be stopping by the dealer and asking.

New car day for the wifey. 2021 Subaru Forester Sport. Sold the CR-V to Carmax painlessly for exactly what the online offer was. She's happy and I'll probably be buried in my old truck with a pile of bikes in the back someday but I'm good with that...

I absolutely loved both of my Subi Foresters (except for the oil leaks after 150K miles or so). Sold the last one to get a Tacoma, so's I could tow a tent trailer (Foresters can't tow for shittake), after wife laid down the no-more-camping-on-the-ground ultimatum 2 years ago. That Happy Wife Happy Life thing is TRUE!

According to this article Tesla is not allowing salvaged vehicles to use its super charger network.

This tells me that Tesla knows who and what car is hooking up to the "pump". A person/car should be able to pull up, pay cash and remain anonymous if you like. there is NO reason in the world anyone, particularly who you bought the car from, should know what car you're in, where you are or if it's hanging on by a mechanical thread, except maybe the guy in the car next to you :) )

This is a massive red flag to me and a reason Not to go electric. Go gas and stay private. Pump where you like, pay cash or not, no one gives a hoot about you or your car. And even @Faust29 can gas up the car with the rusty fist size holes in it and we won't judge.

I'll stay gas thank you very much.

Tesla fans love their Tesla-only charging network. But this is one of the many downsides.

it’s not a conspiracy, the fact that the charger recognizes your car is part of the deal.

VW has a similar setup in the Electrify America network. You can choose to turn it off and just use a credit card.

Tesla cars are able to charge anonymously at all the other chargers, networked or not, if you provide a valid credit card.

Tesla uses a proprietary connector, but all the charging protocols are SAE standard. Get a Tesla to SAE adapter and you’re on your way. Or just get a better built car that comes with the SAE connector from the factory.

.

In this case Tesla has the option to decide that they no longer want a specific car on the road by restricting pumping electrons into your car at their chargers. This makes it less desirable to own that specific car. It seems to comes down to the right to repair, and that they somehow know they didn't do the repair and/or consider it a salvage.

Just my opinion:)
Now where's my eBike!!!

The brand specific only charging station thing is total BS! Talk about controlling a market??!

Gasoline vehicles all have the same port for refueling. No car is "recognized" and therefore given permission to refuel.

Electricity is electricity. Just like gasoline is gasoline. Give me a break!

Tesla keeps a tight lid on who can use its super chargers, but other than that, the only big compatibility issue is that Nissan and old BMWs use a Japanese connector and charge protocol. Most non-Tesla fast charger stations have one Nissan connector, and the rest of the spots are SAE.

Europe mandates their own standard connector for everyone including Tesla. But you still can’t get an account to charge a non Tesla car at a Tesla station.

And there’s still charging at home.

Charging on the road is the concern. I feel that charging stations should be universal. Non-vehicle manufacturer branded stations and Government run. The last thing humanity needs during a switch from one type of powered vehicle to another (from gas to electric) is limitations. Are we all not equal? Do we all not have the exact same DNA? Is electricity not all the same?

We are DEVO.
