Rwanda 50 Mile Ride- 2017

Gotta pay extra for the raffle tickets. I picked up my swag bag this afternoon. Downtown Long Beach to Mission Viejo in just over one hour.

I'll be there tomorrow, but much like the True Grit epic, I'm not in my best endurance ride form. But if the wife lets me go ride all day, might as well take the excuse :P

Gonna try and go w/o my pack this time around - shocking, I know. Maybe if I have to walk of shame out, it'll be less embarassing then missing a time cut off :P

I think you'll be fine without the pack. The hardest stretch is from the aid station when you drop into Caspers all the way back to Dove... But don't worry. I hear the guys who are sweeping that section are carrying bull whips. :whistling:

The wind has been shaking my house all night, and Wunderground says we've had 40mph gusts. Fun wow!

It was harder then expected...... The heat kick my ass...... I was so unprepared it embarrassing..... I hate riding with a pack......Drinking both nights before was probably not smart.....I was hopping to finish under 4 hour (moving time)....... I was very close.......I did enjoy myself for about 19% of the time (JK).

I hate this weather so I am very glad I wasn't able to sign up this year. My wife's plans fell through today so I did not/will not make it down for the raffle. I'll take rain/mud any day over hot windy weather.

Rolling Oaks tomorrow though if anyone is interested, weather should be prime.

I'll put up an actual ride report later... I'm at the raffle now.

I did the 47-miler, I didn't think the wind was an issue really, and the heat wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

My goal was 5 hours; I ended up at just under 5.5 total time. Traffic was horrible at the beginning. Thought I was on the 91 freeway.:gag:

So I rode packless, and @Faust29 and @mtnbikej both had packs... this is an odd world we live in.

I finished; I wasn't sure if I was going to keep going after Bell ridge as my quads were starting to hurt, but I'm a stubborn SOB sometimes, and I just kept going in the direction of the arrows. I did well up to mile 29, but after PR'ing Star Rise (wtf?!?!), the wheels came off the bus. Then it was just a grind to the finish.

I agree with @Runs with Scissors that the wind wasn't really an issue, and in fact helped keep the temps "not blistering hot". At the top of the Live Oak climb it was the worst, and absolutely got knocked around up there by the wind. But otherwise, ya nbd.

Great to see all the imtb'ers out there, wearing jerseys or not! For those that weren't, thanks for saying hi :)

Yeah, really cool running into imtbtrails folks. I think I can remember them all: @konakc, @Earn Your View, @luvmammoth, @Cougar, @Grego, and saw @mtnbikej and @Faust29 at both start and finish - they had their brooms with them. :whistling: If I missed anyone, chime in and shame me. I'm really not good with names first time around.

I rode the 47 mile route today. Not my best time but at least I made all the cutoffs. I was afraid the wind would be a problem, but as others have said it didn't really hurt. If anything the wind helped keep things a little cooler. I stayed for the raffle and made it 4 straight years of winning nothing at all. I saw lots if IMTB Jerseys, said hello, started the ride and didn't see another Jersey until we were done.

That really surprises me. Jason and I both talked about how fresh you were looking at the bottom of Starr Rise! You looked like you just started. That ridge has a way of humbling people... I've been there!

But you finished...

Ya, I was surprised too. I felt really good at that point. But somewhere in the next 20min I stood up to pedal (which I had been doing with greater frequency this ride than I normally do), and I felt a pain in my left quad that told me to back the hell off. Not quite pull or strain in the muscle, but it was barking pretty good. By the time I got past the aid station at the waterfall it was feeling better, but by the time I got past waterworks it was barking again (and my right quad joined in for shits and giggles).
