I haven't seen that yet. I'm curious though of the ratio of roadies to MTBers that are on gravel bikes. As far as your half-bike comment goes my Lauf is way more capable than my 1990 Raleigh Chill ever was.I think it's just old mtbers that miss pinch flats, sidewall cuts, and shitty tires.
Almost everytime I see a roadie on the dirt they're nursing a slow leak, riding on flats, or walking/carrying their half-bike.

Not to mention mine was actually designed as a mountain bike. That's probably why I like it so much.About 40 years of technical advances between the two...
You won't. I have a mountain bike for stuff like that.Ha ha! just busting your balls! I hope you're having fun whatever you're riding. But if I see you walking your Lauf down Middle Merrill or Sunset, I will laugh at you.
When I see gravel bikes doing the Redbull Rampage, I will get it. Until then, I just don’t understand.
You have to be a well-rounded cyclist to understand. You're just a mountain biker. When I see gravel bikes doing the Redbull Rampage, I will get it. Until then, I just don’t understand.
I get that part and I suspect that these bikes will further develop towards a mountain bike before perfection is reached. They are well on the way there already. Relaxed Geo/disc brakes/ fatter tires/...You have to be a well-rounded cyclist to understand. You're just a mountain biker.
Seriously though, it's pretty damn cool to be able to do both disciplines on one bike. Jennifer commented the other that the gravel bikes were our best bicycle purchase yet.
The Lauf is actually designed as a mountain bike. Mine even has mountain bike wheels. The more I ride it the more I realize how capable it is. I'm still not ready to beat it up though. Its sounds like it’s more of a mountain bike than a roadie? Would you do a century road ride on it?The Lauf is actually designed as a mountain bike. Mine even has mountain bike wheels. The more I ride it the more I realize how capable it is. I'm still not ready to beat it up though. It's still new.
In a heartbeat. At 17.9 lbs it's a couple pounds lighter than my road bike and back to back comparisons show it's faster too.Its sounds like it’s more of a mountain bike than a roadie? Would you do a century road ride on it?
Could it replace both of your other bikes if it had to? I mean if you could only keep and forever have one bike, would it be a gravel bike at this point? In a heartbeat. At 17.9 lbs it's a couple pounds lighter than my road bike and back to back comparisons show it's faster too.
That thought has crossed my mind several times though I'm not quite ready to give up my mountain bike. That being said the mileage is equal between the two so far this year and I've only ridden the gravel bike a handful of times. This may be the first year I surpass the 5000 mile mark.Could it replace both of your other bikes if it had to? For now. I'll get it ready and put it up for sale on my next vacation.Do you still have your roadie?
Watch it you two!You have to be a well-rounded cyclist to understand. You're just a mountain biker.

I was thinking about my first mountain bike the other day. A Giant Sedona circa 1993. It occurred to me that my Townie Path is probably more trail worthy than that thing was.I haven't seen that yet. I'm curious though of the ratio of roadies to MTBers that are on gravel bikes. As far as your half-bike comment goes my Lauf is way more capable than my 1990 Raleigh Chill ever was.
Just wait, they will keep making gravel bikes longer/lower/slacker. They will increase front suspension travel and add rear suspension. Then they'll add wide rims and 3.0 tires because those ofter soooooooo much more traction. And the hoardes will claim they are all getting PR's and riding so much faster. But the hipsters and retro grouches will go back to riding road bikes on dirt with narrow knobby tires because they have more soul.I get that part and I suspect that these bikes will further develop towards a mountain bike before perfection is reached. I posted something like this months ago. It's gonna come true!Just wait, they will keep making gravel bikes longer/lower/slacker. They will increase front suspension travel and add rear suspension.
