Pets are people, too

Our two came out two weeks ago, although they hibernate in a tub in the shed, not a burrow.

What kind of tortoises are all of these?
Just curious.
Long ago I had some friends with desert tortoises. They had the permits and everything.

She can be a maniac but I think most of it is just puppy stuff, as it’s usually just zoomies when she’s ready for a walk. But she does like to carry her toys all over. She’s a sweetheart so far and a great dog. She definitely loves my wife.

Jack, my bro’s dog has definitely stolen a few Christmas and thanksgiving turkeys. Other than that, he’s a sweet heart.
He recently stole a shrimp from our 1-Y.o. Niece. In the sweetest and most tender way.
He just walked up and very gingerly took it in his teeth and looked at her apologetically as he ate it. In front of the whole family.:Roflmao

She definitely has to be watched around people food on the counter. Especially now that she can easily reach. That and jumping are prob the two biggest things we are working on with her. She literally is at your feet if you’re in the kitchen. Funny part is she just grazes on her food. She won’t just scarf it all down asap. She does chase the kids around the house and wrestle with them. Especially when she’s all wound up. But she’s a great family dog so far and I’m sure she’ll be even better once she gets past the puppy stage. Even now she’s surprisingly chill most of the time in the house and just wants to cuddle on the couch.

Well, sheet! My wife just called me from the specialist vet. Our male dog, Basil had a tumor in his rectum. Well, now it looks like two and some lymph node involvement and likely malignant.
This is just the first stage of finding out what is going on.
Basically looking at surgery and likely chemo and/or radiation.
Looks like the poor guy might only have six months to two years left.
Here he is with his sister, they are almost eight years old - he is on the right.

Maaaaaan!
So sorry to hear this my friend. Why can’t our pups just die a ripe old age of just being old. Seems such an oddity anymore. I hope things go well and I pray for the right things to happen. Hang in bud.

Wife just got back from a follow up today.
Surgery would be ~$7.5k to just take out his tumors. ~$10k to include involved lymph glands.
Really wouldn't buy him any time.
Chemo and/or radiation would add to those costs and still not help much.
It's actually his anal glands that have the tumors.
So, no treatment. We're just going to let him be his best dog for what looks to be only two or three more months.

That just sucks…..but probably the best.

Sorry to read :(

So sorry to hear the bad news about your dog. Hopefully you can fill these months with joy and his favorite foods and snacks.

Took the wife's dog out to take a dump this morning (she's at work, I work from home) and the stupid dog promptly attempted to eat a bee. The bee, of course, stung her on her stupid mouth.

Watching her shake her head around and then try to eliminate the pain/itch by thumping her snout on the floor....

Well, let's just say I'm glad I'm smarter than the dog.

So no, they're not people. They're not very bright, either. But the wife swears they're loyal....

The dog is fine, for those aghast and wondering.

We went to the exotic animal pet hospital today for our bird's periodic injection. The variety of exotics coming in was impressive. There was a mature Bearded Dragon, a Yellow Front Amazon parrot, a MASSIVE Flemish Giant bunny, and an Angora bunny. Those cool creatures made our scrawny little parakeet look like a gutter rat, comparatively. I'll bet our bird has more personality than all of those others combined though.

Glad the pooch is ok. You’re right, sometimes they ain’t real bright(Rusty is dumb as a rock sometimes). They are usually loyal AF to those that feed them and give them attention. I’ve probably had a dog for all but a month or two of my 50+ years and they have cost me many thousands of $$$ but I wouldn’t have it any other way. For me life without a dog would be be boring.
