Pet peeves on ride day....

I came across this thread just now and I couldn’t resist registering just to respond. Prior to reading this thread I never realized how many old geezer riders I (we) upset when my crew and I roll past you.

And we hope you stick around and post your rides.

It's a matter of etiquette, and not that the people you invite to listen to your music are all old. The whole point of going out on a mtb, whether with your crew or alone, is to enjoy the scenery and ambiance. Very few people have identical tastes in music. It's very likely that what you listen to is not what I want to hear, and vice versa.

If you have to have it, use earbuds. You'll get your music, and I will get my silence. Win-win.

And if it's your lumens to which you refer, well, cover your light when meeting a rider going the opposite direction. Again, it's all about etiquette.

Sorry, but when you blast your music when you ride around other people.....you are essentially saying "F*ck You, I'm gonna force myself into your personal space" to all the other people that you run across. It's a total lack of respect....and poor etiquette for all those around you. I generally refer to guys like this as "boombox". I put it in the same league as the idiots that blast their car stereos at stop lights.

Age has nothing to do with it. I've seen young riders that have no respect for other people....I've seen older riders that have no respect for other people. "Screw you....the world revolves around me".

I would be more than willing to bet it is you and your "crew" who are getting passed - up or down - by many of the "geezers" on this site. But hey, keep being rude and we all lose! Hikers don't like any of us, and they have waaaaaay more power than we do. Might think about limiting your "posse" to a reasonable number of riders, and treat all trail users with respect - even the geezers.

But keep the stoke!

I think all of us can agree that blasting Michael Buble' is always appreciated. Right?

So today I was late for the ride, had to fix the bike when I got there, carried my helmet on my bars and cranked the tunes on my external speaker. Great ride!
But I rode alone.... saw @Tom the Bomb TTB's lil group start up the ST as I turned into the parking lot. I didnt confirm that I was coming, so no worries, maybe I can catch up?
Not a chance! They must have been haulin' some serious mail!
Would have been good to ride with you Scotty. Ya Leprechaun and Boy scout hauling the mail baby!

Hikers don't like any of us,
I totally get what you are saying and get this guys intro was kinda rough really and makes me want to go show him that old geezers rule up and down the mountain. I just gotta say today though we got along with all the other Backbone trail users like it was a fairy tale. Seriously we were getting laughs and fist bumps from pretty much everyone we crossed paths with today. For once killing em with kindness was totally successful. I'm with you guys though on the new pot stirrer...

I’m not trolling. Different strokes for different folks. I’ve concluded that old geezers are usually the nagging wife equivalent out on the trails- helmets on packs, music playing, no bell or bell that is not loud enough, helmet brand you dislike, bike you believe sucks, etc. You oldies will always find something to complain about. Stay home and have your S/O make you a sandwich so you can watch the game on the television so you don’t have an aneurysm out on the trails.

Riders who b*tch and complain about little things before and/or during the ride. We're all just out there looking for some enjoyment. Most of this stuff just isn't a big deal to me. But at least it keeps the forum humming.

I'd agree with the "loud music through speakers" thing, but it's easy enough to avoid them (take a long break or pedal faster to put some distance between).

I don't agree with the "hikers hate us" comment. There are a few, but most of them are pretty nice and respond to a friendly greeting if you try.

Edit/add: Haha, crosspost with @madera84 who says kinda the same a little more bluntly. I'm one of those old geezers, so don't you youngsters go thinking we are all the same.

Geez, it's just a bunch of guy shooting the breeze on a forum. Although I am sensing humor in your posts, we just don't know you well enough to read you. So.... apparently you are not as utopic as you claim. You struggle with seasoned mountain bikers that rip it up, and choose to call them old geezers and nagging wives. Typically those who say that are guys that go to bike parks and climb using a gondola. But I could be wrong. @Maderas84 , pop on over to the say hello forum and tell us about yourself. You may find we have more in common then you think. :)

Not going to ban him. I find it hilarious that this was the thread to motivate @Maderas84 to sign up and chime in. Not the 500+ other threads of positive stoke for our sport. As long as everybody does not get personal...

I might add that I too, do not much care for listening to someone with a speaker playing music while we ride.
@scottay does that on occasion, but I love scottay more than it bothers me.:inlove::rolleyes::thumbsup:

Huh? Who believes which bikes suck? Who hates whose helmet? Whose bell is too quiet? You young whippersnappers have me confused.

Funny... I hardly see any young guys where I ride. It’s usually too much work to get there. Come to think of it, I hardly see any old guys up there, either. :p
