Looking For A New Helmet Suggestion

Leatt All Mtn lid fitting today. Really good fit and an awesome company, Fadi turned me on to the brand. Didn’t purchase it, waiting to try the Kali Interceptor. Almost done and we can be free of this thread:D:whistling:View attachment 39795
Although you all can be free anytime..sorry to drag this out so long, I’m usually pretty compulsive:sneaky:

The LEATT is a really nice helmet. I was gonna buy that instead of the 6D... until I tried on the 6D. Fit just a tiny bit better than the Leatt.

@mountaingirl sara I believe Performance Cyclery in Valencia carries some of the 6D helmets. In fact I got this email from them a couple days ago. Might be worth a look or a phone call.

@herzalot - I might have missed it, but is there anywhere to try on an IXS? I like the looks, and might take a chance... But I'd really like to try some domes on my Charlie Brown shaped head before I buy. :p

Also- to the group at large... Who has the largest selection in store to try on? I'll go see what the Path has, but I don't really know what they carry in helmets... We shall see.

I got mine at Bike Co. Path didn’t have many when I was looking. Jenson usually has a good selection.

The Kali didn’t work for my small noggin BC it’s too round..so it might work for you! Lifetime crash replacement:thumbsup:

The wife and I took a ride to Bike Co. today... I went there just to try on the IXS, but I ended up being underwhelmed. It was an OK fit, but it honestly felt similar to my Fox. My Charlie Brown head fell in love with the Bell Sixer, however. It was instantly a better fit than the Fox it replaced. :inlove:

MIPS, adjustable visor, built in GoPro mount, adjustable click wheel... And it's round. Like my head. :p

The guys in the shop seemed cool... That's another plus.

I have had repeated thoughts I should post up, “Look at Bell” and did not. Bell is my noggin’s helmet of choice!

I guess I didn't think of Bell right away, because I still have a couple lower end ones hanging in the garage from my first couple years riding. They were ok, but I never loved the feel... This one feels like it was personally designed for my noggin. :inlove:

I think it needs to go for a test ride tomorrow... Just not at 4:00 AM again. :cautious:

Bumping this back up for a 2020 view on things. My MET Parabellum was offered up as a sacrifice to the MTB gods on Saturday so I need to find something to replace it. Who are the good brands here? I'm more familiar with Euro stuff.

Following... I have a Bell Sixer MIPS helmet that is getting long in the tooth. I'm tempted to just order another one, but maybe there's something better? Is MIPS still the tech to have?

You gotta see what fits your head.

Bell used to fit me; tried a bell sixer last year and no go. Tried a smith too, no go on it either.

Had a giro for past year or so but it gives me a headache every time I wear it. Finally bailed on that a couple weeks ago.

Now I’ve got a POC Tectal Race with spin (their answer to MIPS). Fits better than the giro in that I don’t get a headache, but it sits low on my forehead and pushes on my glasses. Comfort is better than MIPS since there isn’t that awful plastic layer. Not perfect but definitely better than a headache every ride. Also expensive, but I guess that comes down to what your brain’s worth to you.

I’m still Goldilocksing, but I definitely think helmets you just have to try them on to see what fits you best. MIPS or anything else is not gonna help if helmet doesn’t really fit your head.
