I got clearance from my surgeon to resume cycling yesterday!
We talked about the surgery and I shared how I struggled with the designated recovery time as I felt pretty much normal starting the day after. Sure a little tender but nothing to lay around for two weeks and get fat over!
He was very pleased with the procedure and the results. Showed me four pics he took while inside the knee. They are hard to really understand, but here goes…
Upper Left: Massive scar tissue.
Doc said that for whatever reason, my version of knee replacements have had a tendency to develop scar tissue that interferes with the puck they attach to the back of my Patella (knee cap). As I straighten my leg the puck gets caught up on the scar tissue then jumps up on top of it as the leg continues to straighten. Prior to surgery, I could visually see the knee cap resist normal motion because of the scar tissue then jump back into place as it passes over the scar tissue. It didn’t hurt but it was disturbing, distracting, and mentally held me back while cycling.
Lower Left: Removing the Scar Tissue (ST).
Snip, snip, snip, removing the evil ST and dragging it out one incision while watching with a camera from the other incision. The white stuff is the lower plate that the upper leg rests on. Crazy huh?
Upper Right: Side view of that Puck.
This is the puck that is attached to the back of my knee cap. The ST would catch that upper edge, but now the ST is gone there.
Lower Right: All Clear… All Better!
I mean, so he says… Hard to tell the view but it clearly indicates all the scar tissue is removed. Doc says it’s the same view as Upper Left but with all the scar tissue removed.

All I know is that the knee is back to cycle ready and I’m hitting the trails in Fayetteville with Fadi tomorrow morning!
Mikie likey and now go Bikey!
